Poll Would FF: Realm Reborn have been better on Cryengine? (30 votes)

Yes 3%
No 27%
Fuck you 70%

Hello my friends. Today I have been playing Final Fantasy Reborn. This title is a cross gen MMO. Meaning that the servers are shared across PS3, PS4 and PC.

While the game is pretty, one of the things I noticed is how small and cutoff the environments are. Even within the city of Ul Dar (or whatever the **** it's called) it's chopped up into little loading sections.

When I play Worlds Of Warcrafts I can see for miles and have practically no loading screens.

Does the engine for this game kind of sort of suck? Would it have been better using the Cryengine?

What did they use? Did they not use Crystal Tools? **checking** damn, made an entire new engine for that game. Sucks, they spent years just trying to get Crystal Tools working on the PS3. What a waste.

No.

CryEngine doesn't have a MMO server model. RSI had to program one themselves for Star Citizen and it is completely untested as of today.

Square already had a graphics renderer from Final Fantasy 13 and had an MMO engine with Final Fantasty 11. All they needed to do is combine the two.

CryEngine wouldn't have improved the quality of the game at all. All of the major flaws with the first release were purely design and time restrictions placed on the dev team because of incompetent leaderships. Had nothing to do with the engine they used.

It looks fine. The only problem I have with it is whats wrong with most MMO's. Power cool downs and a general disconnect in controls. Just pushing buttons and waiting. I wish more controlled like Dark Souls. Playing that with a group is like a peek into what MMO's could be.

For general questing, yes. For higher level dungeons, it is a lot more than just button mashing and it's doubtful that style of gameplay could really be pulled off real time. Not just specifically because of the play style but also the de-sync. Games like Terra (which I haven't played) have apparently huge problems with player/server response.

A video was posted in youtube showing two players shooting arrows. The person closer to the server shot almost double the amount of arrows in the same time span.

I highly doubt the Cryengine itself would change anything

Those who aspire hate those who have aspired. Wise words. That I just said.

Yeah if there's something I hate about the game is the loading screens. Sometimes you have loading screens even inside a city.

Other than that the game looks good and it handles large amount of characters in the same place pretty well. Something important for a MMO. I think loading screens were a way to optimize the game for the PS3 and its low RAM. I remember back on the day on WoW playing at 512 MB RAM and travelling around would hit pretty hard on the frames. Upgrading to 1GB made a much bigger difference than upgrading the CPU or GPU.

Agreed. A game with some nice idea's and attempts are mature story-telling, while simultaneously being incredibly campy and full of cat woman in bikini's. The tanking system is better than world of warcrafts, need resource management. Cannot simply spam taunt. Or. whatever the **** they call it in this game.

The engine doesn't matter... If they don't have developers who can't use it.

Also they can modify their own engine to achieve the same result.... It worked for CoD, it Worked for Bioshock. It worked for alor of Engines.

I see. You're saying it's console fault.

World Of Warcraft has receive and will receive further updates. The environments look still look fantastic and fairly easily rank as the best world environments in a game.
