Will there be a Vita successor? Do you want one?

What do you think, SW? Is is possible, feasible, probable?

I think Sony will launch a successor. A few reasons why:

1. Because they can. They have the resources, the network, the heritage, to do another handheld

2. Tablets and phones just don't have the controls to make a great gaming handheld

3. There still is a market out there for those who don't care that much about Nintendo games.

4. Gaming is what Sony does best. The revival of its console business will convince them to try another one

5. *real* Vita users are hardcore, older, and spend quite a bit of money. Sony has a backbone with this group.

What say you, SW?

Sony more or less abandoned first party titles on the platform, its obvious they are going to ride this one out and then not make another successor.

Who really wants one?

There will be and I will be buying it.

I think Sony's going to get the heck out of the handheld business following the Vita's failure. Hell, they helped that failure along by releasing the PSTV. They finally realized their mistake and have left the handheld to die a slow, agonizing and quiet death.

I think there won't be one. Yes, I do want one, but I'm not stupid, dedicated handhelds are a shrinking business, the Vita is the worst commercial bomb since the Saturn, the handheld can barely stay afloat, developers, third and first party, have abandoned it en masse, and Sony themselves don't seem to care at all about it, canceling pitches, announcing publicly there won't be any more AAA games for it, not even bothering to support existing functionality, and more. Right now, they are actually supporting their own mobiles more than the Vita- mobiles more than the Vita! And that is saying something, consider that Remote Play DS4 support isn't on Vita when it is on Xpera phones, consider that features like Spotify music are coming to Xpera phones and haven't even been announced for the Vita, consider that Sony actually advertised a picture of a phone Remote Playing a PS4 game with a DualShock controller, and called it 'the best portable gaming experience,' and you can see the writing on the wall even if you are literally blind- Sony don't care about dedicated handhelds, and they aren't going to bother in the future. As far as they are concerned, supporting the PlayStation ecosystem on their mobile devices in some form is their 'Vita successor.'

Of course, the issue with this is that we're not even sure if Sony's mobile division will survive that long, it made a billion dollars in losses last year, and Sony was already contemplating offloading it a few weeks ago.

All of this said, in an ideal world, yes I would want a PSP3. But I'm not stupid enough to think that we will actually get one.

Wishing for a Vita successor? You must seriously hate Sony, forcing them to waste hundreds of millions or more developing a system no one will touch. Not to mention trying to force them to develop games no one will touch too. You're too spiteful.

lol Sony wishes Vita was as much of a success as Wii U. That means that they would at least have games that sell and are critically acclaimed. Sony would kill for that.

For starters, the memory cards were Vita's own worst enemy from the start, Sony didn't learn a damn thing from PSP successor, the Vita is what the PSP Go should have been, (not to mention Sony lost millions of dollars on PSP Go) and now your asking if Sony can make a handheld successor? Sony has yet to make a profit back from Vita and people think we will see a new handheld, no chance in Hell.

I specifically said in my post I would like for a Vita successor, but I also outlined my reasoning as to why there wouldn't be one. However, TC, who is almost always just looking to start topics and engage in hit and run trolling at best, has as always ignored the posts that actually try to answer the question he asked and is instead just trying to fan the flames of fanboyism fueled discussion. This is what he always does, calling out just one segment of fanboys is wrong in a situation like this. Remember, it takes two hands to clap.

Sure, I agree with you on that, fully. But then again, those kinds of fanboys belong to all factions, it's not just sheep.

Now, obviously, the Vita gets picked on more than other systems, but that's mostly because there is more material to work with there, just like with the Wii U, which also gets picked on a lot (or used to until very recently, I will admit there seems to be a bit of a turnaround in its perception among the core gaming community). But still, this happens with every faction- a very good example of a Sony fan who goes out of his way to negatively contribute to threads about other companies, for example, is the person whose thread we are posting in

Even though I chose the 3DS over the Vita for my portable gaming needs, I hope Sony makes a successor to the Vita because I don't want Nintendo to have a monopoly for that market. Competition is good and I think Sony being in the handheld market has forced Nintendo to do better. I hope Microsoft enters the handheld market next gen as well.

Sony doesn't even want to develop for it anymore so it's hard to see them deciding another second-rate handheld is a good idea.

Do I want one yes. Now will there be another I have no clue. The system lacks any support from sony themselves and the support its getting is if your into jpn nich games. Thankfully I am so im kept rather busy.

Handhelds are a dying breed. Even 3DS sales are like half of what the DS were at this point. Nintendo will definitely make another handheld since it is still profitable for them, but I doubt Sony will.

I believe it's safe to say Sony hasn't have a clue as to what direction they want to go with Vita, especially in a market flooded with Smartphones and Tablets, and especially with Nintendo.

At this point, Sony has given up and will likely "deal with it" throughout this generation, and forgo the handheld market for good.

Nope. Sony already dropped support for the Vita this year thats pretty much an indication of the future.
