Wii U will probably have the best looking games this gen.

I'm not talking about the most technically demanding, that means nothing by itself. A game could have a billion pixels and still be an ugly mess.

Looking at Wii U games like Mario 3D world, DK and Pikmin 3, the 1080p Smash bros. and Mario Kart it's clear Wii U packs enough power to make games extremely appealing and isn't hindered at all in ways that Ps3 and 360 were.

Diminishing returns does come into play to a certain extent, and yes of course Wii U games would look a lot better still with extreme resolutions and textures, but the overall look would not be changed in a huge way with the same base art and technology.

Nintendo and its teams are talented as ever, the hardware isn't limiting, and I honestly can't see any developer on the more powerful consoles coming close to this talent.

And the best games too. Thank you Nintendo. :)

I'm actually expecting Nintendo to get some great looking games out of the Wii U. Look at what they did with Galaxy on the Wii. SM3DWU looks fantastic on the hardware. On a technical level, they can't compete, but Nintendo makes beautiful games that push their consoles to the threshold. Just imagine what Nintendo could do with PS4 like specs. Maybe next gen we will see it.

Pikmin 3 , Wonderful 101, and X look great (and X is massive), but the rest of Nintendo uses the same art style (and probably the same assets) as every other Nintendo game since the GC era so they dont look very appealing compared to the games i listed.

Nintendo should make a team that does nothing but create and experiment with new art style's.

@Chozofication: I say it's more ironic that the best games are coming from less powerful hardware, disproving the notion that good hardware means better games. But then again, we found that out last gen, didn't we?

Yeah I agree to an extent. Nintendo knows how to make games look beautiful regardless of console power. Just look at Mario galaxy, Kirby Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword from last gen. Those are some of the prettiest games of the 360/Wii/PS3 era.

It's their knack for effective use of primary colours and simple yet effective visual design.

Well, based on the Galaxy games and the footage they've shown of the newest one, Mario is more fresh and creative than the vast majority of games released these days... Maybe you're not a fan of the genre.

The N64 had literally only those games as launch lineup. Despite M64 being great, that was an abysmal launch lineup.

The PS4 has more than KZ and Knack, exclusive and 3rd party wise. Not to mention that the games coming in the next few months are looking very good too.

Ok. I'm actually a massive fan of nintendo. The 3DS is absolutely fantastic, 10/10 system so far. Just like their other handhelds.

However the same can't be said for their past 2 home consoles. The Wii had a couple gems here and there. Xenoblade Chronicles and SMG1/2 are the only ones who could hold a candle to the big PS3/360/PC games of this gen e.g GTA 5, Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us, Uncharted 2, Halo Reach, Metro Last Light, Bayonetta (lol no.2 on the wii u, bravo ninty for that one u bastards), The Witcher 2, Fallout New Vegas, Dark Souls, Demons Souls, Journey etc.

The Wii U has absolutely nothing that interests me or even points to a better future for the console.

Gotta admit I have a soft spot for many Nintendo developed games. Even without being a graphics powerhouse they still manage to have a great amount of charm to them.

That new SMB game looks amazing. One of the reasons I may own a WiiU someday.

Maybe...then again this gen we had games like Journey and Puppeteer and those looks amazing in the artistic department.

It's not as if the ONLY thing the Xbox and PS4 are going to get are gritty, realistic shooters.

The 360 got Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts which is my personal pick for most visually appealing game on consoles last gen.
