i'm getting blu-ray on pc,don't need a PS3 for that.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I already have one in my laptop and even that's a pain to set up on my HDTV, god knows what a pain it would be with a PC.
Do you have HDMI on your PC? (details)
so is the PC

1. Thats good for you.
2. Its called a blog.
3. You don't like the PS3 and we get it, so stop wasting our time.
And what Spruce said.

You don't need HDMI output. With a HDCP capable card (any card in the last 2 years) you can run the signal through DVI or a DVI->HDMI cable onto a TV. If your laptop came with a blu-ray drive it should have DVI out which is on 90% of 1080p HDTV sets. Otherwise you just talked straight out of your ***

It also comes with HDMI output, which is noticeably better than DVI. With DVI you get a lot of distortion on the picture (really noticeable on desktop and text), with my HDMI output, the desktop is spot on.

And a PC is more than just a PS3.
That is outside the scope of the topic that TC created. He said that there is no need for a PS3 when a PC can play Blu-Ray movies, and linked us to a page of Blu-Ray drives, implying that the PS3 is only a Blu-Ray player.
I am not going to get this into a PC vs PS3 thread, as that was not the topic.

that sounds so ironic... a pc with a blue-ray drive kinds renders the ps3 pointless in most respects (yes renders was an intentional pun)

What? DVI has no distortion, its a digital signal, not analog. IT is the same as HDMI in that it only carries 1's and 0's in the signal, you don't get ranges such as analog. Which is why a $10 HDMI cable is the same in quality as a $200 one.

Except for these pesky things called games, but what gamer cares about games?
Well as much as i love PC Gaming, the PS3 comes with a Blu-ray player and much more in one package. Plus a Blu-ray drive for the PC is pretty expensive.
I also find no need to spend cash on a Blu-ray drive, when there no point for it(Unless you watch alot of Blu-ray movies). Its not like there are Blu-ray games out for PC, so its just a big wast of time(Unless you watch Blu-ray movies on it)

Maybe distortion was the wrong technical term. However, with the PC set to the resolution to match the TV, there is a marked difference in quality, though I have only just thought, I was using serial to DVI (my laptop has no DVI out), so that is probably the reason.
A Blu-ray player like the PS3 is portable and can be easily connected to any HDTV. Movies can be loaded and played quickly in a public setting.
It also comes "free" with the PS3, whereas putting it in your PC requires you to choose to spend an additional $200.

Clearly, he did not say that the PS3 is better than the PC, just that it its much more than what the TC claims it is.

Not quite. We can only assume that he implied that, or we can assume that he took all other factors into account as well and chose merely to focus on the Blu-Ray aspect and came to the conclusion that a PC is superior in that aspect as well.
The topic is clearly about the PC versus the PS3 with a focus on the Blu-Ray aspect.
bingo bango, pc wins again :PYou don't even need the drive technically, you could just download the movies.

ok then, scince 360 launch then wich is the beggining of this gen, even then it gets totaly pwed on so many levels.

I didn't made this thread to start a flame war but to THINK about other options for Blu-RAY beside's the PS3.It's not the only machine that can read blu-ray.Cbot
Then you should have changed the title. The current title makes it seem that you wanted to start some kind of war.
If you want it to get less flame, just say this as the title simply, and it should be in another forum.

In SW terms, a PC beats every system. There is little reason to debate that, and it is indeed outside the scope of the thread as it was created.

If it was not about strictly Blu-Ray, why is that spelled out in the topic title, and why is the link to ble-ray drives and not whole PC rigs or at least anything more than just a drive?

Still unfair.
The PS3 came out after the Xbox360.
If you start counting all the good games from November 17, 2006, then you have a fair competition.
Otherwise, your as bad as the lemming who say that the PS3 has no good games. Give them the same amount of time.

well you said about there being 'this little thing called games' so im calling you on that, besides with the pc having such a strong library your statement of 'the ps3 is more than just a blu-ray player was kinda ironic becuse thats one of its main selling points. it certainly has the weakest librabry this gen so no, it isnt that much more than a blue-ray player and now that PC blue-ray is getting so cheap the point TC made is very valid, there is no need for a ps3 with a blue-ray equiped PC.well you said about there being 'this little thing called games' so im calling you on that, besides with the pc having such a strong library your statement of 'the ps3 is more than just a blu-ray player was kinda ironic becuse thats one of its main selling points. it certainly has the weakest librabry this gen so no, it isnt that much more than a blue-ray player and now that PC blue-ray is getting so cheap the point TC made is very valid, there is no need for a ps3 with a blue-ray equiped PC. Yeah, I mentioned games, when everyone kept saying that without Blu-Ray there is no point for a PS3.
Its as if everyone forgets that there are games on all the platforms that you can only play on those platforms. No system is irrelevant, and none of them will be this generation. Not by a long shot.
And no, weakest library is very much subjective, and I would say, as much as I like the idea of the Wii, to me, it has the weakest library.

If the PC came with a Blu-Ray drive, great. It still wouldn't have the flexibility of a portable Blu-Ray player though. And a PS3 can be turned into a Linux computer anyway, so you can manipulate and backup your Blu-Ray movie to your heart's content on the PS3. (Not that I condone this)
Now, PC Blu-Ray writers, which usually sell for about $300-$400+, are another matter entirely. But using actual Blu-Ray discs for data storage still isn't practical at the moment.
