Remember games like Grandia, Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Dark Cloud, etc. I haven't remembered a good Sony RPG in a long time. What happened, SW? You guys seem to know everything so I ask.

Sony thinks globally and the type of RPGs that sell well on a global level require a massive investment. Additionally, it really is just Bethesda that can do it with success unless you count Mass Effect where they get rid of RPG gameplay, don't make it open world, and it's essentially a shooter with dialog choices. Sony could probably get away with some Uncharted w/Dialog Choices but I don't think that's the type of thing you're looking for.
Cutbacks from a dying company.
Fun fact: the PS4 is the cheapest console to produce out of all the playstations. EVER.
Tune in for more signs of a corporate giant about to go belly up.
RPGs take a lot of resources to make and the genre has been shrinking thanks to your tried and true franchises like Final Fantasy absolutely tanking in quality and sales. Also, the big RPGs have moved to handheld like DragonQuest. Essentially the third party has shrunk the fanbase on consoles where it was once dominant. Sony takes risks (LittleBigPlanet, just to shut the idiots in this thread down like the sad jokes they are), but they are calculated risks. A large-scale RPG would be more than a calculated risk. I would be SHOCKED if Sony published an internal RPG ever again.
@speedfreak48t5p: I beg to differ.
Likely because Sony has the same mindset as Square Enix that there is no audience to obtain a profit (which is wrong on many accounts). JRPGs are doing better today than they have in the past five years.

So please explain to all of us how Sony published more RPG's during the PS1 era than the PS2 era because as far as I know Sony was at it's peak when the PS2 was released (circa 2000).
Yeah, I didn't think so because this has nothing to do with Sony and everything to do with how the Japanese gaming industry has consistently been dropping the ball generation after generation. Sony can't publish RPG's because 1, they don't have developers that really develop RPG's and 2, there's barely anyone out there willing to develop an RPG.
They seem to be relying on third-party Japanese support right now to deliver exclusive titles (e.g. Tales of, Ni No Kuni, Disgaea, Drakengard, etc.) while third-party multiplat RPGs do a good enough job as well but yeah. Sony really need to up their game.
I think we'll see an increase from Sony Japan Studio this generation. There are rumors that the developers of Soul Sacrifice on the Vita have a new game in development for PS4. We'll see.

Grandia has nothing do with Sony actually.. The rest other than Darkcloud are owned by Sony.

Sony did publish Grandia in North America
probably because they're aiming at titles with potential for greater commercial success, JRPGs are kind of niche, they can be good but that won't guarantee great returns on their investment
JRPG'S are dominated on sony consoles anyways and 3DS is the only device Sony have to compete with on that front.

Sony owns the Dark Cloud franchise not Level 5.
Time will tell I assume.
Maybe because Sony is Broke
Time will prove you wrong. Hence my comment.

Sony has been closing studios and losing IP's and their credit is listed as junk not to mention they are selling off most of their divisions. This is a crumbling company that has been happing for a few years now. It's entirely possible Sony could go bankrupt and not even make it through this entire gen even with the PS4 selling good. This is reality of the situation sorry if this hurts you but look up the facts.
Time will tell, as I said.

that's not something I would be proud of as a lemming since the xbox dOne has inferior parts in it and yet still costs 500 dollars, even If that 100 difference is because of kinect the xbox dOne Would still be 400 dollars for a product with inferior internals.
Those are all JRPGs, and Legend of Dragoon was in reaction to FFVII. Squaresoft nailed that game, and the commercials at the time showed outstanding CG videos to entice the more casual audience.
Things have changed so much. The 360/PS3 generation grew up with more Western games/genres.

The creator of Grandia also died back in 2011 :(

Did Sony actually publish those games though? Regardless, the reason those games aren't being published is because they would cost too much money to produce with modern visuals, and the market isn't there to support it. You'd probably see quite a few more JRPGs if Japanese devs took their heads out of their asses and stopped limiting themselves with the traditional console retail release model.
because Sony is knows that Third Person game like uncharted will sell more and more likely to get awards....
where can u find FPS/RPG with awards these days ..... well ... only a small portion
Time will tell I assume.

Holy shit! How do you come up with such an original burn? Like, dude! Fresh out the box! Never heard it before. Someone get this man a cookie, this thread has been officially shut down!
They seem to follow whats popular in the US and at the moment its still shooters, hopefully the rpgs comes back this gen, although it doesnt seem like it, US gamers loves shooting stuff
Demon's Souls 2!
Hopefully...
There was Soul Sacrifce a little while ago but that lacks common ground with the games you mentioned.

Dude I have seen some F'd up Avatars and Names on here but yours in simply brilliant. Bravo!
Sony is broke and sold the farm to make one last console. I'll be surprised if the company makes it to the true ending of the cycle without selling the play station brand.
@WilliamRLBaker: in my world the Xbox One doesn't consist of inferior parts.
Yes, your own little delusional world where Xbone is beating PS4.
Did you come up with that great material all on your own? I see an new SW King in the making.
