That's cool, but the 16-bit war is long over. Sega had some quality titles, but, kind of like Nintendo actually, they were shaky in how to handle themselves with the hardware transition to the 3D gaming era - and ultimately financial failures like the Sega CD, 32x, and Sega Saturn left them strapped for cash when the awesome Dreamcast came out, forcing them to become a software-only developer.
The Genesis had some great stuff at the time, unfortunately not all of it has aged well - platformers like Mario are fun to go back and play, but playing Streets of Rage nowadays is tedious. Ecco the Dolphin is very much one of those "cool games not enough people played". And Sonic... well, honestly Sonic the Hedgehog, CD, 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles are some of my favorite games of the 16-bit era - even today they're an absolute blast to play.
i thought it was a good system. In fact it was my first system, it was that or a super nintendo. I went with the better system. Genesis of course.Jaster_DCX

Land Stalker, Gunstar Heroes, warsong, phantasy star, sonic, Ristar, Golden axe 1-3, byond oasis, shining force, shining in the darkness. I can't be bothered to list all of the greats on the system, while it might not be the best it surely is a great console.
I actually liked the Sewer Shark game and TomCat Ally game for the Sega CD..hehHeil68
Wow, I've never met anyone else who played Tomcat Alley, oh man, the D-Grade acting in that game, I'd love to dig up a copy again just to see it one more time.
I dont think its the best system ever made but pretty damn close for a number of reasons-sonic 123 and knuckles,gunstar heroes,rocket knight adventures,vectorman,toe jam and earl phantasy star 1234 theres alot more but id be here all day trying to list them all
It was a great console, but the SNES is still the best. For starters, there's Streets of Rage 1-3. Their gameplay may have been bettered, but their soundtracks are still some of the best. There's also that Starflight remake to consider. It plays very differently from the home computer versions, though. Also, the Sega CD has a couple of RPGs I'm thinking about playing, though I don't know whether to go for the Sega CD originals or the "Complete" remakes for the Saturn and PS1. (The changed plot in one of those remakes doesn't help.)
Sonic 1-3, and Knuckles, Altered Beast, Vectorman 1 and 2, Splatterhouse, Shining Force, Chakan, Kid Chamelion, Shinobi 3, Streets of Rage 1-3, X-Men 1 and 2, Comix Zone, Eternal Champions, Golden Axe, Gunstar Heroes, Mutant League Football, Phantasy Star, those are just some of my favorites, but there are more, it may not be the best, but it has a good argument...

Yeah Sega was Awesome untill the Dreamcast ****ed up then they slowly startingflushing all thier franchises down the toilet.

Anyways, Sonic is amazing and if you haven't played 1-3, and Sonic and Knuckles, you're missing out. My brother and I actually had more hours on Sonic than Mario. (Not hating on Mario at all.) The Sonic and Tails co-op was great. If Tails would die, he would just fly back on the screen like "I'm baack!" lol Diehard fans would know what I mean.
The Megadrive/Genesis was an amazing console in its time. In its time it was the best console to date imo. Lots of incredible titles were on that system. Its definitely not the best console though. Until the Playstation it was though.

I'd say that they screwed up back when the Sega CD was released in America. (The poor marketing of the Master System/Mark III by Tonka wasn't a good start, but they came back big time with the Genesis' initial launch. "Genesis does what Nintendon't!") It only got worse from there, such as the 32X and then the Saturn a mere SIX MONTHS later, with some major retailers like Wal-Mart getting the shaft and thus refusing to carry ANYTHING Sega-related. That iron-fisted Bernie Stolar refusing to bring some of the better JRPGs and other games to the States didn't help either, and then there were the two different Dreamcast prototype designs by the American and Japanese branches(one used a 3dfx GPU, the other a PowerVR chip). All of that brought down Sega in the end. I'm still willing to bet that better effort in America and maybe Europe would have kept the old Sega alive. (They were doing pretty good in Japan, even during the Saturn days.)
