A lot of good games have come out this year.

A lot of them may have not gone as noticed as other games but here we are.

I was surprised by a few titles this year.

DragonsDogma.jpg

I picked up dragons dogma solely for the RE6 demo. This re-affirms how I absolutely feel about demos and full games and how demos aren't a full representation of that. I popped it in my 360 and listened to the cheesy theme song in the intro and asked myself "what the hell am I getting into" While it's not uber deep on the combat it's still a great RPG. The one thing it does lack that is essential though is fast travel. WHile I do endorse epic quests running back and forth between the main hub castle and half way across the land does get dull sometimes. But nonetheless a fun and interesting action/rpg.

gravity_rush-480x272.jpg

I recently picked up a vita for a good price with a few games and a memory card. I popped in gravity rush first, was I blown away. It has a great gravity manipulation mechanic and enough moves and an somewhat interesting eccentric plot to keep me going to the end. Some of the combat is tedius, but all in all it was an absolute blast. I was very pleased with this one, there are challenges to keep you going post game but not much.

What have you been surprised by this year?

Crusader Kings 2 - unbelievabley addictive game, which appears complex to start but actually has fairly simple gameplay once you're used to it. The Walking Dead - didn't expect much from a game with limited gameplay like this, but it had some of the most demanding choices of any game i've played in a long time, and those choices actually make a difference ... WRPG developers please take note. The Steam Sale - Said I was only going to buy a couple of games in it this year ... **** you steam now my backlog is even worse!

1) Dark Souls, for being so awesome and life-changing (note for tightwads: I bought the game in late April and first played it in early May). 2) Demon's Souls, for introducing me to the Souls series (note for tightwads: I borrowed the game in January and didn't start playing it until February). 3) Mass Effect 3 for multiple reasons: 1) For not being asstacular in terms of gameplay, 2) for not having tons of paid DLC first day and 3) for having a good ending that properly ended the trilogy.

Asura's Wrath. It's not remotely worth a full price buy, but it's a bit of fun for a rental.

How amazing Journey was. Better than expected.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion probably, not the game itself but how I can't even beat the AI on easy. I'm just that bad at the game.

Yes, I beat it. I don't mind the lack of fast travel (maybe ferrystones should have been a bit cheaper). I had some epic experiences because of that and it ties pretty well to the day-night cycle, which I also think is a great idea. The only major complaint I have is that the same monsters always spawn in the same places (with the exclusion of the endgame dungeons).

That I bought Arkham City. I didn't expect it to go on sale for $10. Now I see why everyone loves it so much, it improved upon Arkham Asylum in every way.

I never really liked the Metal Gear Solid series. I played 2 and 3 and hated them but I beat 4.

Anyways my friend made me play the HD collection and I finally beat Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 and can now say they are pretty awesome games.

Fallout 3, i mean for the longest time i've been wanting to try this franchise, not too long ago i finally got the chance to get it and man, it is a really fun game.

Alos Mortal Kombat 9...it is a fun game, but i'm surprised to see how bad it is as a figthing game, like really bad, how the hell that game was at this year's EVO is beyond me.

I expected it to be yet another run of the mill 4X. In reality it's simply brilliant and easily one of the best games of this type I've played in recent years and it's merely 20$. Can't wait to see what it will look like once they expand it.
