I don't really have nightmares from games. Books and movies, sure, but not games.

I can say though Silent Hill had a disturbing effect on me.

Before that, I never really had nightmare's from games, more from movies. I played Castlevania NES, Resident Evils, and a host of other games, but it wasn't until SH that I was disturbed enough after I turned the console off.

Usually, when I shut down a machine, I never suffered. The original SH got me thinking about things even awake, even hours after I turned off the game. That was a cool effect.

A shoutout to the original DOOM too. That game, woah.

Not so much of a nightmare but it did give me the creeps to no end, and that would be Silent Hill when I was 8 years old. God damnit, the draw distance is what it makes it scary.

The time when my PS2 got taken away and I had to go buy a Gamecube to hold myself over...It was a nightmare. I had to play Metroid Prime and 007 From Russia With Love, and Lord of the Rings. It sucked.

I was 3 years old watching my older sisters beat Super Mario World 2 and when baby bowser turned into a giant dark scary monster I lost it. Still remember having nightmares about him. Luckily, now I find the transformation/epic music to be just awesome, not terrifying.

Same. Seeing the exorcist in 1979 was my first set of nightmares.

It was The Thing (1981) for me. That movie still kinda freaks me out to this day actually. >_>

Never had a nightmare from a game that I can recall. Movies are what gave me nightmares as a kid. Simon's Quest did have some scary music, though. I can still remember it perfectly just thinking about it.

Yeah! Obviously, after the fact, I found Simon's Quest almost endearing in a way. It was that first game to put a legitimate spook in me and I revisit it from time to time to beat it just for that reason alone. When I did muster the courage to play it and beat it again, it made the accomplishment so sweet. It became awesome!

Good old Resident Evil 1, i used to be so scared of Zombies as a kid, so i was playing this game on a borrowed PS1 and i didn't knew much about the game and then when i saw this, i almost lost it...

It didn't gave me nightmares, but i was so afraid of it because there is a cementary near to my house, so of course i was very scared at nights...and i couldn't tell my mom or she wouldn't let me play again, now is kind of silly and Zombie movies are among my favorites, but back in the days, Jesus, so scary >.<

Amnesia : The Dark Decent was the only game that scared me , and I played a lot of survival horror games . At one point , I had decided to not continue my walkthrough and was like "Meh ... this is not my kind of game anyway" .

But then I gathered my strength after 3 days and came back to it and finished it . Ending was greatly rewarding so , I felt it was worth it . Loved that game .Never had nightmares from it though .

@Shewgenja: The first game that made me feel a bit uneasy ( not even close to nightmares but definitly it had some impact on me ) was Resident Evil 1 on PS1 day 1!!

I played it late at night , lights off and outside was raining and all . It was so great atmosphere overall !! Ill never forget it.

Playing this as a kid, Mr. X in the Scenario B sections scared the shit out of me. He was Nemesis before there was a Nemesis. Fucker chased you relentlessly and was fairly unpredictable.

Bezerk in the arcades. About the last time I had a nightmare. I kept dreaming of being chased by a giant basketball...

When I was a kid, playing games sure was fun and I was happy until I met RE2. That game not only gave me nightmares, but I actually couldn't sleep in dark.

If I can recall, Silent Hill 3. Played it when I was a kid and the hospital level gave me the spooks for a few days as well as the amusement park. I was able to complete the whole game though, didn't get anymore nightmares after.

For some reason as a young child the original RE didn't get to me, but for some reason the Licker in RE2 was just where I couldn't hold myself together.

First I thought I seen him in a save room (Your supposed to be safe! But there he was climbing across a god damn window, I didn't fully catch him so I thought I was just seeing things and then in the next room...

It doesn't help that to compound this, the licker in RE2 is responsible for the most dick move jump scare the series has ever pulled off.

The interogation room with 2 way glass is totally cool the first time around, the door to the other side is locked so you come back after with the key, on the other side of the two way glass, the god damn licker busts through the previously safe room giving anyone with a soul a fright.
