What is fav action game with horror elements and why is it the best in your opinion?
I'd have to go with Blood - System Shock 1 and Resident Evil 4 are great but full of flaws and F.E.A.R. gets redundant well before it's finished.

Resident Evil 4: people's displeasure for The Island be damned, that game's pacing is ace, and as far as variety is concerned in an action game, unless it's Half Life 2 nothing else comes close. Ashley is an actual good escort mechanic where you have so much control of her, and the enemies actually respond to her (But Naughty Dog and Irrational games will make games where the escort is completely ignored), the encounter design is simply god like for large stretches of that game, and the one liners in that game are fucking great.
Even as this jumping the shark moment for Resident Evil, it was doing fucking backflips while doing it because Resident Evil 4 is fucking divine. That game is a blast every time I go back to play it, meanwhile all the TPS games I played since I wonder, why the **** does RE4 have more gameplay ideas in one game than these franchises had in multiple games? If not their entire franchise? Even Mikami choked trying to follow up that game.
I'm just going to mention Condemned: Criminal Origins over here. Great horror thriller game that focuses more on melee combat as opposed to just shooting everything you see move.
Twisted Metal . Minion, first time through the game, was pretty shocking. Same for twisted metal 2 with sweet tooth
Resident Evil 4 is near the top for sure. For me it's that or FEAR.
God, FEAR's gunplay is amazing. And the AI... Lord have mercy. Shame the sequels suck so bad.
I really enjoyed Dead space 2 honestly. It's a shame they went from such a high point to the disaster that was 3 and then just abandoned the series. It was the perfect meld of the Thing and Aliens.
Necromorphs are some of the most disturbing and well designed enemies in gaming, probably my favorite form of undead monstrosity. Shambling husks of twisted meat and bone that behave more like insects than anything else.
It's a shame the last game Visceral put out was a fucking battlefield game.
STALKER series.
No one mentioned Metro, at all? That game has some pretty scary/disturbing moments. Fantastic game overall although the gunplay isnt the best but dat atmosphere and lived in world they built.
Yeah i like them ukrainians/russians, they are pretty good at this.
Resident Evil 4, but it has no flaws. It is one of the most tightly designed games of all time. It's flawless.
Resident Evil 4. After that, Dead Space, since it was very much alike RE4.
Btw, what kind of "flaws" are there in RE4? It's too awesome making you play it all the time?
You can easily exploit doors to kill any enemy - even Verdugo, which was generally considered the hardest. Myself, I just spammed a billion timed mines when he appears for the first time (scripted) and he died in 20 seconds on professional.
You can exploit loading doors to act as mini checkpoints running in and out.
Krauser can be killed in 10 seconds using a knife due to a borked script.
The Regenerator can be spammed with the knife - making it probably the easiest enemy in the game.
Sections such as the compound on the Island can exploit enemies all piling in a line to fall off the ledge into the ocean.
You can also just run past enemies, like the old Resident Evil games.
The final boss can be killed in 15 with the minethrower. Because of the accuracy of the wiimote and mouse - these versions can have him sniped in about 20-30 seconds while he's at the opposite side of the ramp.
Prob lots more I'm missing - while it's a great game, it's one easy to manipulate.
Revelations Infernal mod fixed a few of Resident Evil's issues, sped up enemies, tight corridors, limited upgrades with +/- and a gimped knife jab. Unfortunately rather than doing what Resident Evil 2 done properly with a separate duel campaign, the player is jumping all over the place with convoluted characters trying to be grandiose.
@iandizion713: Code Veronica is great
Guys , one of my favorite RE games was CV on Dreamcast as well , way and beyond from all other RE titles at the time and ofc Remake later. But those 2 are not action games with horror elements , are survival/horror games with a bit of action elements

I was trying soooo hard to not reply to any of people calling out RE4 as the best action/horror game since this whole thread is about action games with horror elements and it wouldnt be appropriate to judge RE4 for being an action/horror game !!!
But to say its FLAWLESS ? I cant let that go ! I couldnt resist to .. LOL and facepalm at the same time !
@uninspiredcup: Ah, I see. There's a lot of great games you can play in a boring way, though. All of the things you mentioned I never came across the 6 times I've played and completed the game. Now that I know of these things, I'll be sure to never do them. Wouldn't really call the game worse for them, but I can see why one would.

Got plenty of action for me, all i did in that game was shoot shat and survive the horror.

Basically sums it up for me. But I gotta give FEAR points for its immaculate, enduring gunplay.

:( ! Still RE games prior of RE4 werent action games with horror elements ! But if you insist , so be it !

So you were shitty at the game, and looked up exploits on the internet? Wow, that's embarassing.
@AzatiS: You dont consider shooting zombies like crazy action? I guess since no fighting, but then again, RE4 should be called a Shooter.
@AzatiS: I was just curious. Seems people always want to put things in a box without proper labeling.

came in here to say this, fantastic action/horror game. now Visceral are making a star wars game...

Metro was awesome, and in my opinion, right behind Stalker with the misery mod as the king. Also enjoyed Dead Space 1 and 2, Evil Within and FEAR 1.

What do you think are flaws?
I'm talking about the original Gamecube version or the PC HD remaster. The PS2 version did have flaws, loading times. The Wii version did have flaws, the game was not designed for that controller and is way too easy when you can aim faster. However, the Gamecube version is flawless. It is a perfectly balanced game. The controls limit you in certain ways such as you cannot shoot while moving, but the game is designed around this limitation and wouldn't work otherwise. The Dead Space games stole the basic gameplay mechanics but allow you to move while shooting and are radically more easy because of this (and other reasons such as too powerful of weapons).
@LuminousAether: You just named one flaw , so it wasnt flawless.
Merchant , AI , many exploits , few bugs to name a few ...
Check this for example .. IS this flawless ? This is as stupid as it gets.

pResident evil 4 is flawless IMO too . It's still yet to be one upped in its genre and I doubt it ever will be. It's up there with half life 2 in the mythos of gaming and it always will be. I just wish it was on 3ds or Vita ,I'd get a Vita just for it.

No, I didn't name a flaw. I mentioned that some ports were flawed, but I said the original game was flawless. If you're trying to make the laughable claim that not being able to move while shooting is a flaw, that's wrong. That's a deliberate design choice that radically strengthened the game. It's one of the defining elements of the game and is not a flaw.
Enemy AI was incredible. Merchant was fine. I never once saw an exploit but I didn't look them up.
Didn't watch your video. I have hundreds of hours of experience with Resident Evil 4. It is a godlike masterpiece, one of the top 3 best games ever made.
