Wonder what kind of shit there'll be in 2021.. Condoms that rate your performance after intercourse. Maybe they'll speak during sex.
HARDER HOLD IT IN GO FOR THE FINAL PUSH BATTLE OF VERDUN LIKE
The nx will come out 2017, the ps5 and the next xbox will need to come out by 2018 because 4k is going to be huge by the nxs launch, so there is that, the way it is right now, theyre struggling to delive 1080 p consistently with good performance (forget 60 fps a lot of times they cant achieve consistent 30 fps, even more so the xbox one), theyll absolutely need new consoles for 4k, so 2021 is ridiculous, even if turns out not being 5 years with a 2018 launch, it certainly wont last longer than 2019 with the 4k demand.

Maybe it will teach men not to rape when it speaks to you when you first open the packet.
The most important aspect to a publisher is sales, console gamers buy their games, therefor, regardless of poor hardware, they will be priority.

It's not just consoles, today's world is not a time for non-upgradeable hardware.
Sony and Microsoft would be better off making their own types of PCs to put their exclusives on, well, that's what PS4 and Xbox1 technically are... shitty PCs.
What if you made a what if thread that's not completely ridiculous? Seriously, what's wrong with you?
If we decend to the lowest point of $400 laptops outperforming consoles in multiplats (aka Xbone lowest common denominator) what will the gaming world do?
Will continue to pretend that consoles produce better visuals than a $2000 PC, what else?

it wont. quote me for this.

this too, the ignorance of consumers.
I'm not very impressed with this gen. I hope it is quickly replaced, or I will be switching to PC.
I can say that if the Xbone was as powerful as the PS4 it would give the gen a couple of years....
With one of the graphics flagships of the Xbone maxxed on a PREBUILT system GPU (purchase http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103929 $400 SLAM this inside http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127784&cm_re=750_ti-_-14-127-784-_-Product $140!! BAM!! $540 Gaming PC that owns Xbone)

there is no way this gen will get past Dec 2017...
If MS launches a new Xbox poor Sony will be FORCED to rush a PS5...
I predict that NX will be ready in 2016. So if the next console gen for the twins start in 2021 then Nintendo can make another console gen leap and we can call the twins last gen consoles.
I can imagine the next generation starting in 2020, which would give this one a 7 year life span which seems correct to me.
by then the PS5 / Super Wii-U / Xbox Two should be capable of playing games in 4K resolution
Depends on what we mean by "lasts till", like in the sense that they keep selling current gen consoles and games even after next gen starts? Or did you mean it in the sense that the first of the next gen consoles releases? Because if it's the latter then certainly the NX will release long before then. And if it's the former, who cares?
Yeah it won't take that long. I say we will make a switch by the time 4K television boardcast finally happens which should be next year or in a few years. Right now no one can really afford a tv that cost about 1000 dollars. I wish the one thing this gen did was make all games perform at least 60 FPS. Now if there is no consoles after this gen then I'm done playing games like the AAA one to much money to a PC get them to the quality I would like which would be the 1080 P or 4K at 60 FPS.

1080p and 60 fps isn't that hard to do these days.
Consoles were never meant to be more powerful than PC's. Nothing to worry about.
Also I worry about Sony. Their last two holidays have been absent. The holiday of 2021 will show a closed sign for Sony. This next one will be bare as well. Thank Christ for the multiplat.

What?! How dare you call LBP3 and Driveclub as absent. Plus the launch of Knack made the PS4 one of the fastest selling consoles in video game history. Face facts man. Sony is the king of holiday exclusives.
@bunchanumbers: oh **** no. Cross gen garbage plagued with bugs and two games that bombed in scores. There is the facts.
Last holiday sucked on Sony and this years E3 was a gateway to the future. No 2015 AAA again this holiday.
Power doesn't matter all that much as long as it is sufficient, which both PS4 and Xbone are. I think what helped longevity last gen and this gen and could break the maximum 5 year usual cycles from the past is the upgradability of the consoles on the software front. You have to remember that when 360 came out YouTube wasn't a year old, Facebook was 1 year old and few used it, no streaming, no console dlc, no smartphones like we know them today. Despite all that in 2015 the 360 has all these things; Facebook integration, YouTube, Netflix, smartglass, DLC. The 360 feels just as current as an iPhone or iPad, despite being almost 10 years old.
These consoles can easily last 7-8 years the hardware really isn't dreadful, and improvements will continually be made. Check GTA5 to 360 launch games, would be unthinkable in 2005. We might not see the same improvements, but we will see a lot for sure. Also the 8800gtx was vastly superior to the 360 yet only came a year later, and the gap got wider as the gen went on, yet no one cared.

Console cycle should be around 6 years and no more ... what happened last generation was a slap for gamers imho.

1) Since when last gens ridiculous limitations , RAM for example , was sufficient for last generation to last 9 years and how current generation is sufficient considering a low end PC is at least on par while we are just in the second year of this generation ?
2) This happened in many , if not every , generations before latest one and doesnt justify your point.
3) Current consoles are already outdated , specially X1 , and there cant be hardware improvements other than Hard disks capacity .
4) Why would be unthinkable ? What If R were about to use the same advanced engine of GTA 5 for GTA 4 for example ?
5) 8800gtx was a high end card but what PS3/X360 offered hardware wise as a whole towards low/mid end PCs was far and beyond ... This time is totally different. X1 is a low end PC since the start and PS4 mid at best because of GPU. Day 1... Now think about a gaming PC vs day 1 of PS3/X360. Something was rather different , wasnt ?
Every single generation consoles had a small advantage VS low/mid PCs for a year or 2 , then PCs were catching up and after that there was a gap that was getting wider for PCs ... This generation though is the opposite ... This generation started with an already wide gap that favors low/mid PCs. And the gap wont just get wider ... will get HUUGEE in the upcoming years , so huge that a low end PC will be as powerful as 2 consoles combined.
All in all , i dont want this generation to last 8-9 years like last one ... I think is too much for many reasons.
I'm ok with that. Sure, I'm probably part of the minority here but I like my game systems to have more than a 4 year life span.
If we changed console generations every 4 years, the Playstation 6 would be coming out next year with only marginally better graphics than what the current PS4 has.
How about you guys enjoy what's in front of you instead of taking everything for granted.

1. Sufficient because the 360 could play all games PC could right to the end, some sacrifices had to be made visually and with performance ie. 600p/30, but gameplay was always identical to the end user. I doubt things will change this gen, no large publisher will skip the Xbox and PS4 due to being underpowered, the experience will be the same again.
2. No it didn't. you bought a PS2 at launch or at the end of the PS2 gen it was the same OS, no new features. Online has made a huge difference to longevity as anything new that comes out can be released as an app or patched in. Such as the PS4 recently gaining USB video support or Windows 10 and game streaming on Xbox.
3. Never mattered in the past, consoles dictate what happens with big publishers, PC will not force anyone's hand.
4. No games came close to GTA5 at launch.
5. The 360 was still outpaced within a year on market, these consoles are powerful enough to make a considerable jump from last gen at a good price, and ultimately that is what matters.
Until we start seeing the PS4 really slowing in sales we won't see any new console regardless of what PC hardware is like.

1) This is not PC vs Consoles rather than what kind of games you gonna play in the future. You wouldnt be able to play games like Witcher 3 nor MGS 5 nor Uncharted 4 etc with old hardware... What if you could play those games sooner than later ? Because imho in 2011-12 MAX we should have been in gen 8 and not in 2014/15. But anyways .. Better hardware means advanced games and thats what we want as gamers ... To see and play different games and that comes with new hardware most of the time.
2) No comment ... you are wrong.
3) Never mattered because it never happened before . And how publishers have anything to do with what you said about hardware upgrades ? lol
4) Not because they couldnt as you stated. More because of the engine R used. Hardware is the same as used to be. The big differences is a) DEvelopers didnt use all cores at once .. Many games were running on 1 core at start of generation and b) always developers are advancing and polishing their engines thru time. S
5) Thats irrelevant to my point.
Again , sales have nothing to do with your original post. PS2 was selling as fast and lasted for 6 years. Wii sold as much and died long before anyone else and you saw Wii U fast. So ... i dont know where you getting your facts but you need to see the whole picture
