how was dark souls ruined when dark souls was the first game in the series?

• Crash Bandicoot - The titan games was where the series really died.
• Soul Calibur - I rented V for about a week; hated it.
• Twisted Metal - The new one was such a disappointment and due to the disappointing sales (at least that's what I read a year ago), it is even more likely we will see car combat come back for the long haul.

I don't know about ruined, they're rock solid games.  Both the gameplay mechanics and level design are top notch and they pack plenty of content.  And they're very much true to their roots.

Now if you mean to say they've been milked to death and are completely uninspired soul-less games, then yes I would agree.  :P

I don't think I could stomach another NSMB at this point.

The next 2d Mario needs to look, sound and feel completely different.  

blown away by all the folks saying splinter cell, i thought conviction was probably the most fun of the series... though it was short.

It certantly was. The gaming media attempted to make it out as one of the best. But people like Adam Sessler, IGN and gametrailers are all money stooges.

It's been the worst by far. And next generation will hopefully get better since everyone has finally reconizsed the xbox is a peice of crap.

Resident Evil for definite. After the amazing RE4 you couldn't have predicted how far they have fallen.

CoD - Went from a respected and loved world war 2 shooter series, to a laughed at and joked about mess of repeated copy/paste, yearly, still using the Quake 3 engine from 2002, yet still managed to completely **** up the netcode somehow.
