I’m starting to miss the Uncharted franchise (before Neil Druckmann got involved lol). Uncharted 2 is still one of the best action games, and also had a very fun multiplayer. That was already 14 years ago, and it’s been 7 years since the last installment. So I’m open to a reboot. How about you, SW? What franchises/games do you miss?

Prince of Persia. Have no idea how Ubisoft managed to butcher that franchise. It had so many great ideas.

Mass Effect. It was a very special universe! Again I have no idea why they didn't just continue in a similar style.

Max Payne. Think it is dead? I still replay from time to time. Third one is sooo good 👌. Everything about it is just so epic.

Mirror's edge. Another franchise presumed dead (less chance of a sequel than Max Payne). Such an amazing concept and incredible art style. Unfortunately never turned into a game that delivered the full package. Now chances are we will never get it. I guess upcoming Ghostrunner is some consolation.

Mainly Prince of Persia and Metal Gear. Unpopular opinion: the 2008 PoP game was actually fantastic and they should've continued on with that story and expand its gameplay (other than that DS game), I loved it then and I love it still.

Also wouldn't hurt to have a proper Star Fox and Paper Mario game.

Mirror's Edge is a good one. Catalyst was kinda two steps forward, one step back, but still a good game in the end. Would like to see more, just scale back the scope to the point where selling 2 million copies is good enough for the suits.

Power Stone. I know there was a leak that says a new one is coming, but until something official happens, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Bloody Roar. This was a mid-teir 3D fighting game back in the day, but I recently revisited it and had a great time. Kind of a "they don't make em like this anymore" moment.

Motorstorm. If Sony could get whats left of Evolution/Codemasters Cheshire back, I would love to see a new one of these.

Crimson Skies is may favorite flight combat game of all time. Would love to see a new one, but if that's too much to ask, would also take another Blazing Angels.

F-Zero and Star Fox. But at the same time, I see why Nintendo doesn't want to bother with either and make their characters Smash only.

F-Zero was a series BASED on gimmicks. Yes, the G word that Nintendo's critics associate with the company in a negative sense after the Wii released. Yet they keep demanding a new game in the IP that was really a priced tech demo for the SNES with Mode 7. And the later games with the gimmick of either "oh, look how fast we can go on better hardware (X, GX)" or "look at us trying to re-create the SNES game on a capable handheld with more stuff (Maximum Velocity, GP Legend, Climax)".

As for Star Fox... same deal, but with more rocky reception. Again, pushed Mode 7 in addition to SFX chip to push the SNES capabilities, while 64, a REMAKE with the N64's hardware capabilities in mind. Then the GameCube came out and there were a lot of critics of Adventures being a Zelda clone rooted from it being another game by Rare, Bandai Namco's Assault with on-foot missions akin to Factor 5's Rebel Strike (except a bit better than that in my view) not being well liked, after Command, the series took a hiatus... then 64 was remade for 3DS (remake of a remake), 2 was uncancelled for the SNES Mini (to receptionNintendo feared, which lead to the initial cancellation) and Zero, a game so reviled that all of a sudden the GameCube games (like the console they were on) are beloved gems now. Just like a certain trilogy of Star Wars movies after 2015.

In the words of Stephen King "sometimes, dead is better."

As for others, Gauntlet. There would be no Diablo without it.

UC better never come back. One of the worst Sony IP's.

As for what i am really missing, its Perfect Dark and Conker.

Conker as an rpg light platformer reboot could be such a unique game. Imagine quests that makes you collect bull's coom to impregnate a horny cow that want his beautiful babies😁Oh please make me the quest writer😁

I miss some of the older god games and building games.

  • Black and White
  • Populous
  • Dungeon Keeper
  • The Impressions Series (Pharaoh, Caesar, etc)
  • SimCity...I mean seriously, where is SimCity 5 (or 6? Did that last piece of shit EA gave us count as 5?). Just go back to your roots and make a good SimCity.

To be honest I don't really miss older franchises, I just miss us getting new IP's like we used to. Everyone get's so hyped when a major AAA studio makes a new IP every 10-15 years and they mostly tend to be stinkers or just reskins (as with all these soulsborne clones).

This pretty much, 90s PC gaming.

Lot of stand ins, and that's probably better as if EA brought these back it would be more about fucking you.

@SolidGame_basic: I would agree with Uncharted, as much as I'd love to see Uncharted 5, we need The Last of Us Part III to conclude the franchise, way more important than UC5.

And other than TLOU3, I would like to see what Naughty Dog could do with a different genre / franchise... Remember ND has almost exactly one franchise for every playstation:

PS1 - Crash Bandicoot

PS2 - Jak & Daxter

PS3 - Uncharted

PS4 - The Last of Us

PS5 - ???

*(I realise TLOU launched on PS3 and UC4 is a PS4 game, but still)

For me this is easily Metal Gear.

its more than 8 years since we got to play Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, a game that also released on the PS3 and X360. I would love a true, next-gen PS5 based Metal Gear Solid 6 perhaps in a WWII setting starring The Boss on something like the Decima Engine (can you imagine a new Decima Engine game on PC...)

Are you at least happy about MGS 3 Remake?

@SolidGame_basic: Extremely happy. Though MGS3: Snake Eater is my least favourite of 1-5, and I was hoping they'd remake MGS1 first as I never got to experience it new in 1998 - I really tried getting into it in the early 2000s but just couldn't... even in like 2002-2003 it was really hard going back to MGS1 and PS1 graphics since I played MGS2 first back in 2001.

but Snake Eater first cause of the franchise's chronology makes sense.

And hey, my least favourite Metal Gear is still a 9.5/10 easily lol.

Can't wait. I love remakes.

Edit: I am a little worried that Konami will **** it up. Unlike more modern PS3 remakes like Dead Space and The Last of Us, MGS3 is in dire need of more remaking than just the graphics and audio.

We need the MGS4/MGS5 camera movement and third person action controls. A sprint button, same aim layout etc.

MGS5 still to this date has the best stealth gameplay combat mechanics of any videogame - I hope Konami can re-create similar combat without Kojima. (and of course the developers who are now at Kojima Productions)

Not only combat... if they give us MGS4/MGS5 combat they'll have to redesign the levels and enemy AI / encounters to keep it balanced. It's not an easy job by any means.

I mean look at Naughty Dog with all their talent... they didn't bother adding the dodge/prone mechanics to TLOU from TLOU2 which would have made the remake so much better. Because that would require redesigning both the levels and enemies/encounters...

We all know Kojima and his team could easily remake this into a modern 10/10 by 2024 standards... But can Konami?

Mass Effect went from being one of the most promising new franchises of two generations ago to completely forgotten one generation later. Makes me sad to know EA had no real vision for mass effect after the Dr's sold BioWare to them. Probably the most mismanaged property in gaming.

I miss Fable as well. Those games had mad charm. I always felt immersed in Albion!

I'd love a new portal with a Atlas and Peabody coop sequel as well.

Uncharted I do not miss... The series should've ended 3 games ago.

The Tony Hawk series. There was a remake, and it was very good, but there hasn't been a new one in a number of years. The sales of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 prove that there is still a lot of interest in that kind of game; it sold a million copies in its first two weeks. If I had it my way, I would like a sequel to American Wasteland. The game was too easy, but the level design was brilliant. Multiplayer was a blast as well.

Metal gear solid. Maybe a touch on the story when big boss was in the green berets. Or a remake of MGS 1 and 2 where you played as solid snake on the nes.

Maxx Payne was a cool series I liked, never played 3 but the other 2 were good.

Dead nation was a good game on PS3 and was also on PS4. It was a fun coop online/offline as well.

@SolidGame_basic: I think it depends on the budget. If a big-budget game like GTA V sold a million copies in the first two weeks, it would seem like a massive flop. On the other hand, a game like Tony Hawk, which is not a big budget game, is assessed differently.

I'm starting to miss Fumito Ueda's game (ICO, Shadows of the Colossus) ; it's already been 7 years since The Last Guardian in 2016.

He's been working on a new game, funded by Epic, and I hope it will come out at least in the next 5 years, haha.

I missed pure action games ie Pure SP FPS games or Pure TPS action game. no open world shit or RPG elements.

sadly most games today have RPG elements and open world part make gameplay took backseat.

Generally speaking, Shiny games.

They made very bizarre and unique titles more interesting than most of the shit I play these days.

Glad they didn't come back though, probably have all it's edges beveled to be boring.

Yeah, we could use another Uncharted game by now.

I also want Splinter Cell back. The stealth game, mind you, not the modern shooter stuff.

Mass Effect. Such a tragedy that the franchise is dead (or dormant).

I want to see a new Borderlands game.

Red Dead Redemption 3? It's probably going to be 5-10 years of waiting.
