I prefet console singleplayer. I play games mostly for some good stories, and as far as I know, multiplayer never integrated story very well...
i play pc and wii and focus on singleplayer more. i dont care for online multiplayer that much anymore, local mulitplayer is still fun though.themagicbum9720
Local MP will always be fun, until the death of gaming itself, or the death of humanity. If local MP dies than gaming can aswell die. :P
Depends on the genre.
For FPS, it's mainly MP because that's all developers make nowadays, though there are certain FPS campaigns I enjoy (Halo, Crysis, etc).
For everything else, SP usually. Unless it's like StarCraft or Guilty Gear. Then I play a lot of both.
I play on everything, btw.
On the PC, a mix of single-player and multiplayer, but more weighted towards single-player. On the console, it's single-player only.
I play a vast majority for the SP. That's one of the reasons the PS3 is my only and preferred console this gen.
MP I play rarely. Almost never.
MP all the way for me, SP is such a waste of space, i would suggest devs focus more on MP and make it as big as possible rather than adding an SP and im looking at you CoD. no SP please!
Depends on the game really. I'm big into fighting games, League of Legends, WoW, and some others, but other than that I play a lot of single player.

It's no wonder SP games have virtually been "obliterated" because of people like these.
Ironic for a person who's library consist of a majority SP focus RPGs.
You should have bought a 360 ;)
Platforms don't determine if someone plays either single player or multiplayer.
There are enough of both types games on each platform to satisfy everyone's needs.
While I do play some multiplayer, I like single player a lot more. I don't like needing to have another person to fully enjoy a game.
What is this, I don't even, and you're a RPG fan as well.MP all the way for me, SP is such a waste of space, i would suggest devs focus more on MP and make it as big as possible rather than adding an SP and im looking at you CoD. no SP please!

Online Multiplayer has gotten most of my game time but for now I'm focusing alot on sp I haven't found the next big super addicting mp game that will keep me coming back for more and racking up hundreds of hours in it to replace tf2 which in turned replaced the counter strike series and the way things are going i doubt i ever will find a mp game like those to but mp will always be a big part of gaming for me though just now focusing more on all the sp experience gaming has to offer.
SP all the way...love getting lost in a good story mode. I actually rather dislike the whole obsession gamers of today have w/ the MP 'campaign' crap. Ha, it's actually rather funny seeing most of MP-obsessed fiends trippin' over not getting their 'fix' since PSN has been out (this coming from a PS3 owner).
Goes to show what happens when you (gamers & devs, too) rely too much on MP to satisify your gaming needs, I guess.
50/50 split. I play mostly PC games; FPS and RTS for multiplyer, RPG for single player.
I actually haven't even finished the Starcraft 2 campaign or even started the Bad Company 2 campaign, I just don't care for single player in those genres.
I like both, but get this. If a game like say Call of Duty releases and it has a short singleplayer and mainly focuses on the multiplayer, then I don't buy that game. The last CoD game that I bought was CoD2. They just haven't released another CoD that's worth my money.
few exceptions - cs 1.6, quake, and the nhl games are the only multiplayer games I play. on consoles (including pc) I spend 98% of my time playing single player.
as for the poster who mentioned there being no incentive to replay single player games, I disagree given the types of singleplayer games I invest the majority of my time on - shmups and hack-n-slash have some of the best replayability due to the learning curves.

Kinda odd that you say this as you're a JRPG "fan".
JRPGs and FPSs are a different thing, i love stories and SP in an RPG but in an FPS? they got to be kidding me? i still got no clue whats going with CoD SP, i only play the SP for trophies and spend most of my time on the MP.. this is about FPSs and FPSs imo should not have SP as i think thir a waste of space when devs can add larger maps for online, more perks, streaks, more maps and so on. with adventure games and RPGs thats where i will say add SP and NOT MP.

Yeah but TC is talking about gaming in general, not just FPS games. So when you start talking about how you wish people just focused on multiplayer it confused people.

Again as i said above there is a difference between SP in an FPS and an SP in an RPG or adventure game. FPS i think should not have SPs and focus on MP and i know im not the only one out there that starts with the MP with any FPS purchased. RPGs yes i want more SP and no MP. big difference and TC mentioned FPSs

I see then i apologize for confusing everyone, the first thing i read when i came to the thread was "playing FPS" :P.. yep i want more MP on FPSs and more SP on other type games like platforming, adventure like uncharted, RPGs like final fantasy and so on

Can't say I saw that part of the OP.
Yeah guess it was my bad since i skipped the rest of his post and read "From what I know, PC focus on MP, playing FPS" so assumed he's talking about FPSs and not in general. my bad dont get me wrong :P.. i love SPs in other games but not FPSs

So bioshock,stalker,Half-life 2, mirrors edge, metro 2033, and Dues ex should all get rid of their sp and focus on mp only?Again as i said above there is a difference between SP in an FPS and an SP in an RPG or adventure game. And that is why FPS these days have shifted too much on the twitch obsessed ADHD induced demographic with MP.
Why not SP in FPS? The SP element can co-exist in that genre. The problem is people like you that has provoked developers to shift too much on MP and less on SP, which is why most FPS have become the "michael bay games" in the games industry. And this has also lessen the value in games & less worthy of the $60 price tag.

So bioshock,stalker,Half-life 2, and mirrors edge should all get rid of their sp and focus on mp only?I have just recently started playing bioshock 2 ( the very first bioshock game i play ) and played mirrors edge a long time ago, for both i wouldnt call them FPSs that should have MP and not SP, games like CoD and Kizllone 3 i say should have focused on MP more and forget the SP, both games are amazing in online. bio and mirros are both considered FPS type games but these games should focus on SP.. well you guys actually made me think about this for a second lol, i guess some FPS games should focus more on SP while others like call of duty to name one should focus on MP ONLY!.. so overall it depends on the game

Well thanks to the poster above he actually made me think that there are other FPS type games that do amazing in SP rather than MP, bioshock 2 which i have just recently started playing and mirrors edge are both FPS type games that i think should always have SP and no MP, so right now it depends and not all FPSs must have MP only, i never considered mirrios edge and bioshock 2 an FPS :P.. but alright for games like Call of Duty which i love i would say the devs should really focus on bringing more bigger MP rather than SP, cod is the kind of FPS where it does best on MP and same for Killzone 3, the game is so amazing online i think they should have just made it an online only game, it depends :P and heres hoping the new CoD is online only :D with no fees to pay of course
