Let me break it down to you. I mean, I sort of see some potential but it's just ugh, it looks so slow, the gamepad cockpit view looks even worse than I had imagined, and the graphics; I've always been a proponent that graphics do not make the game, but this, this is just. . . embarrassing. It looks like it was originally being made for the 3DS, [not a bad idea if it were a N3DS] has some interesting ideas, but I think the gameplay is starting to look a bit well. Space, planets, flying, futuristic dogfights - these are things which should be a wet dream for a graphic designer. They open up so many exciting and beautiful possibilities to really wow you, but this isn't the case here for Zero. The Arwing transformation look like a Robotech Anime rip-off.

Alex and Jeff said the controls were really awkward. But that's not my problem with it. It just looks so bland. Like, a really cheap looking game.

Plus, I'm more of a SF: Adventure guy. Bring it on.

I have fond memories of Star Fox 64, and what I saw of Star Fox Wii U did not interest me at all.

Looking at the gameplay more it really looked mediocre. Visuals aside (though it's worth pointing out that I've seen Wii games that looked better), nothing about the gameplay seemed exciting or fresh.

Nope. I enjoyed Star Fox 64 and I even like Adventures, but this just looks incredibly dull to me. This game looks dated before it is even released. (Not just graphically either). Hopefully I'm wrong cause I need something to play on my Wii U and I was looking forward to this before I saw this video.

Nintendo games really don't interest me anymore, however I'll occasionally be impressed by a new Zelda/Mario/etc game even if I never end up playing them.

This...this just looks absolutely mediocre. Worse, really. I just can't believe for such an awesome franchise on their new console this is what they have to show for it. One of the worst showing's at E3 for sure.

It looks like a game that has been in development for a year. It has a lot of cool ideas with the vehicle transformations, and the little robot stealth bits. But it seems really lacking. I'm honestly hoping for a delay. Seems like a game their making, just so they can say they did.

I'm hoping for the best, but it just looked really underwhelming when compared to something like S&P: Star Successor.

Look at something like that. then go watch the boss fights in star fox treehouse segments. It could be they are holding back stuff, and platinum is known for over-top action. So this could easily change, but atm I am lukewarm at best on the game.

The opening level on Zero was a copy/paste from the N64 version opening level with up to date graphics. Lazy if you ask me and could have done better then just copy from N64.

I was highly impressed, it looks so true to the original, it had me foaming out the mouth as a Star Fox 64 fan. Graphics also look awesome and very charming for a Star Fox game, cant wait to buy it, been waiting for this for a very long time this. Also cant wait for the Gyro system, will be fun playing a Star Fox game with it.

It's the environment. It's bland and so many other Wii U games look so much better. So what's up with the hexagon shaped circles he flies through? Why aren't they smooth round circles?

Cause Mario Galaxy was not inspired by Mario 64. Im not sure why people are complaining about graphics though, wtf does it even matter, graphics are gimmicks anyway.

@mesome713: yep. brilliant idea by nintendo.

but no im not impressed with starfox. i said it ages ago that this type of game is not going to fly (excluse the pun) in the current market. its a very old arcade design with a very limited appeal.

for 15-20 bucks as an eshop game...yeah it could be interesting. full what price at retail? not a chance.

as for the visuals.....dissapointing. i think miyamoto mentioned that they wanted to have an N64 look to it. the problem is that N64 games have aged woefully in the visuals department. a sight to behold at the time (i still remember seeing the likes of mario 64 for the first time...amazing) but they are just poor looking games now.

i can only surmise that the gamepad is taking its toll. it looks like the wiiu has to render 2 seperate scenes. the game also runs at 60FPS as i understand it so essentially the wiiu has to render 2 different scenes at 60FPS. that would make the basic graphics understandable.

imho nintendo missed a great opportunity to reinvent the series (the current fanbase for starfox is so small that it is treated as a second, or even thir tier IP). they could have tried to at least bring starfox up as a first tier IP since they have nothing else on the radar. the space sim is rising again and nintendo could have garnered more interest by trying something different. the old starfox model is not goign to cut it as a full priced title today.

I think you just answered your own concerns, why would Nintendo put so much money into a game that has such a small fan base? Fans have been begging Nintendo for a Star Fox 64 game since i was a little kid, but im sure Nintendo knows that not many will buy the game, its why its taking so long to make one. But now Nintendo is catering to the more hardcore, so i think they have put together a damn near perfect combo. Im sure new fans who have never played the game will also enjoy it. Plus the Gyro, that along will make shooting fun and fluid.

I liked what I saw. The Treehouse crew showed better footage. The only thing I am disappointed with is that there is no online. I was expecting 8 player deathmatches or 4 on 4 team battles you can do online. There are too many multiplayer opportunities that are wasted because Nintendo most likely didn't have the time to make a online multiplayer mode.

@mesome713: to try and build a bigger fanbase. thats why they should try something different with starfox. if they keep making starwing with shinier graphics then the fanbase for that IP will get smaller.

i mean nitnendo take more risks with mario and zelda than they do with starfox. if those risks for zelda and mario dont pay off then it would be a catastrophe for the company. if they take more risks with starfox and it doesnt work out...so what? the fanbase for the IP as it currently stands is so small it's not worth panicking over if they leave. and if it does work out those same fans will probably still buy it....and it could attract a lot more news fans and maybe sell a few wiius in the process.

they dont have to spend an absolute fortune on its production but they need to update what starfox can be because the current structure isnt going to cut it for a full price retail game.

@osan0: Nintendo has always stated they love to had new experiences to their franchises. Thats the reason they take risks with Mario and Zelda etc, because those games are big sellers and Nintendo wants to justify a purchase. Experimenting with a game that not many people buy anyway would be kinda odd and most likely result in a failure.

Also this Star Fox offers new experience that have never been seen. You can transform for goodness sake, if thats not spicing it up, i dont know what is. Star Fox 64 is a space ship game, sure Nintendo and them would love to have you free roaming outer space mmo style, blasting with your homies online, but do you know how much that shat would cost?

@mesome713: oh it would be a risk. absolutely.

but i wasnt thinking open space MMO freestyle space game. ideally i think something like freelancer would be an ideal fit but that would also cost a crap ton of money and take a lot of time to make....so maybe somthing to ponder if a reboot worked out :P.

but something like freespace...that integrates elements of the current design of starfox could be brilliant.

freespace had fixed missions much like starfox does. but the missions themselves played out very well (except escort missions..they sucked :P). you could command fighter squadrons, customise your ship and ship loadout and the battles would be epic. the way the ships handled in freespace was also quite good and made for exciting combat. doubling up on hornet missiles and laying them all into an enemy just before they pass you....sweet. playing chicken with them was also good fun. then there was dealing with capital ships (a nuisance in FS1 but a real danger in FS2).

something like that...then bring in the starfox gameplay for certain parts of missions like attacking a subsystem on a starbase or taking out the fighter bay of a capital ship n such like.

something like that, with nintendos skills and craftsmanship, would be quite awesome.

its a genre thats on the rise again and its something nintendo could be getting in on.

My understanding is that it looks slow because opening level and they were showing off the gyro controls and made it easier to learn in a slow stage. It's Platinum Games, those fast levels are coming. Plus you can turn that gyro shit off, so yes I am looking forward to playing it, because Platinum.

@osan0: Its some cool ideals. I agree Nintendo should jump in on it, and i even think they are trying. This game to me blows them games away, check it.

Star Fox you roam on the planet and shoot around battling, then you can cut to outer space and battle in the game, not only that, but you can jump into a spaceship, transform and run around the big spaceship battling it out. The ideals are awesome that Nintendo is trying, the diversity i think is unmatched in this genre. Only game i think that is more diverse then this is that Star Citizen game. Now remember that this game is just part one. If this game actually sells, and people enjoy it, guess what Nintendo will be making next, they will push the envelop on space exploration and traveling between planets. Of course this is no easy feat, many have tried and failed, but Nintendo tho, they are really good at not being overambitious and delivering. Its cool to want more, but we have to look at this from Nintendos eyes. They want to give fans what they want, and if fans dont want Star Fox, then Nintendo will work on a different game they want. This nobody wants it cause its not what we expected is a weak argument, i can play any game and want more, but does that more justify the risk involved. I would rather start small and build a solid foundation. Is this game a solid foundation is the question. I think it is, but im not sure until i play it.

Looks dated and the art direction is bad with some low res textures. StarFox Adventures and Assault both have a more pleasant artstyle imo.

Also, Platinum has a hand in this. Anybody remember what W101 looked like before release?

Hmm good point.

I was impressed. But I played Lylat Wars/StarFox64 to death. I must have finished that game like 30 times. It was kinda like an arcade game.

These games just aren't made anymore. My little brother said he was not impressed because this type of game is old. Like they can't be as fun as the handful of genres they make today. I completely disagree with that. It's sad to see what happened to the newer generations of gamers who haven't experienced the experimental age of gaming.

And from what they've shown it looks real fluid unlike Lylat Wars, and they seem to have added more variation. I hope there are still little secrets and multiple paths. Sounds like there is because they were talking about alternative ways to fight a boss.
