Do note, the differences are quite minimal, but this is System Wars so let's go to war. Graphics appear to be identical across the board, so let's get down to the numbers.

Performance mode :

• PS5 in dynamic 4K (2275x1280p ~ 3840x2160p)
• XSX in dynamic 4K (1920x1080p ~ 3840x2160p)
• XSS in dynamic 1080p (1280x720p ~ 1920x1080p)

Quality mode :

• PS5 in native 4K (3840x2160p)
• XSX in dyanmic 4K (3328x1872p ~ 3840x2160p)
• XSS in dynamic 1440p (1920x1080p ~ 2560x1440p)

Framerate Performance Mode :

• PS5: 59.99fps on average (Max: 60fps / min: 59fps)
• XSX: 59.97fps on average (Max: 60fps / min: 56fps)
• XSS: 47.06fps on average (Max: 60fps / min: 30fps)

Framerate Quality Mode :

• PS5: 30.00fps on average (Max: 30fps / min: 30fps)
• XSX: 30.00fps on average (Max: 30fps / min: 30fps)
• XSS: 29.99fps on average (Max: 30fps / min: 27fps)

The scene at 0:46 was where the lowest resolution was found and this scene seems to render at a higher average resolution on PS5 in Performance Mode than Xbox Series X in Performance Mode. However, in other scenes the PS5 and Xbox Series X render at a similar resolution in Performance Mode, and in some cases the Xbox Series X can render at a higher resolution than PS5. PS5 and Xbox Series X in Performance Mode use a form of temporal reconstruction to increase the resolution up to 3840x2160 when rendering natively below this resolution.

Xbox Series S in Performance Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 1280x720. Xbox Series S in Perforamnce Mode uses a form of temporal reconstruction to increase the resolution up to 1920x1080 when rendering natively below this resolution.

The only resolution found on PS5 in Quality Mode was 3840x2160. Xbox Series X in Quality Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 3328x1872. Drops in resolution below 3840x2160 on Xbox Series X in Quality Mode seem to be uncommon.

Xbox Series S in Quality Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 2560x1440 and the lowest native resolution found being 1920x1080. Xbox Series S in Quality Mode uses a form of temporal reconstruction to increase the resolution up to 2560x1440 when rendering natively below this resolution.

In short, win for the PS5 and another L to add to the ever-growing collection of the most powerful console on the planet, the Xbox Series L. Losing to a 9.2 TFLOPs machine. Tch!

MS has some troubleshooting to do with a system that is faster performing slower than it's competitor. A rather odd situation indeed.

While odd that the Xbox Series X continues to perform below the PS5 none of these comparisons have been enough to push me to want to use the PS5 as my multi platform system of choice. Other aspects of the XSX is still enough for me to want use it for my main. Still kind of interesting to see how these comparisons have been turning out and how things might go in the future.

These differences are too small to be important of course. But.... it’s still funny how the supposedly strongest console of all times in practice is not.

There are obviously a lot of variables at play. Who knows what is going on. All we can see is the scoreboard. And the numbers next to Playstation are higher than those next to Xbox 😎!

Has my system, the ps5, even have a single native 4k title? What kind of a next gen system do i have when it does the same resolution the Pro did from 2016?

I haven't touched my gaming pc in over a year. I don't have anything crazy, just an 980 ti classified. I would have to upgrade, but there's honestly nothing I want to play on PC.

The X1X was a £430 console when it was new and still cost about £350 (Xbox One X Robot White Special Edition (1TB): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games) new.

The Series S is not a replacement for a £430 console. It is a replacement for the aging X1S which is just a X1 in a new case. The Series X replaces the X1X

That's great for PS5 but I doubt anyone will notice these difference in gameplay. However, it is very strange that the XSX is performing worse than the PS5 at this point.

It more to it than resolution. With how many titles has ran at 60 fps, better yet, over 30 fps? How many titles on the pro did actually hit 4k on "visual" mode? The jump to this gen have been more noticeable than the jump to last gen.

Folks, they clearly didn’t have the right Xbox tools. I know all we heard about pre-launch was how easy the Xbox Series X/S was so simple to develop for and the settings could easily scale just like on PC... But forget all that. Now that Xbox isn’t living up to the massive amounts of hype, the boxes are suuuuper difficult to develop for, devs didn’t get the dev kits in time, and maybe in the future, when the tools mature, we will see the hyped performance!

I’m almost convinced the issue is the slow GPU CU’s. No RDNA chip is clocked nearly that slow. And the PS5’s 400MHz advantage might be the reason for the performance comparisons turning out the way they have.

I agree but the Series S outperforms the X1X. Not a lot of comparisons but let me give you one example. Borderlands 3, on the X1X in performance mode it renders at 1080p and can't maintain 60 fps. The XSS renders at a dynamic 1440p resolution that falls to 1188p at it's bottom. It sustains a solid 60 fps throughout, it's so solid, DF mentioned it's a more solid 60 fps than both the XSX and PS5 who render at a higher resolution. Add to that the SSD and ray tracing on the Series S and it seems to be superior but let's wait for more comparisons.
