Do you the like concept of achieving a true ending in a video game? Meaning, the possibility of not actually getting the real ending if you miss something in the game? More specifically, I'm referring to games like Bloodborne and more recently, Arkham Knight. In both games it is possible to finish the game and not get the "true ending". I just read for Arkham Knight you actually need to 100% the game (correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've been reading) to get the real ending. Are you a fan of this, SW? I think it makes games more interesting, but at the same it's kind of lame. Kind of reminds me when I thought I beat Castlevania Symphony of the Night only to realize that I was only half way through. Or in Persona 4 Golden when I got the crap ending, but luckily, had an older save file. What say you, SW? Do you like?

It depends. If it's something like The Witcher 3, then i'm all for it... If it's like Arkham Knight, then it sucks. For Arkham Knight you have to 100% everything.

Yes, I hate this, especially if getting the true ending is requires something weird and obscure.

Arkham Knight doesn't fit here. There is a true ending, but it's not like you have to play the game again to get it.

Definitely not a fan of the 100% everything, but yes, I prefer multiple endings.

It's better to have endings where there is no "true" ending. Each ending is well made and no ending is designated as canon. In this way, the gamer really feels the difference and the uniqueness of his/her own journey throughout the game. Having a "true" ending implies other endings are fake and if gamers didn't get the real ending, there's a sense of frustration and need to get the real one.

Not a problem for me. If I care that much about seeing the "true ending" I'll look it up on youtube. I'm not going to jump through hoops to get it unless it's actually enjoyable to do so.

Assuming the game is going for a "multi-ending" thing from the start, then yeah, I don't have a problem with it.

Not if it's stuck behind a bunch of boring bullshit like Arkham Knight or Mass Effect 3

Catherine has 8 endings.

3 good , 3 true and 2 bad.

It was fun trying to get the endings without looking up an FAQ.

Same with Persona 4.

Different endings add replayability no reason to hate them

Nope, Iike to have different endings, not "true" endings.

Reason being that often a true ending is depending on grinding, getting 100% or something borderline obscure, which I do not enjoy.

To have different endings depending on your actions, and choices I do however like, while games can not have truely open design, the idea of multiple endings does give some illusion that it was less on rails then it really is.

Arkham Knight gives you about 90% of the ending normally. I purposely spoiled the rest for myself as I'm not sure how much effort I'm putting into the rest of the game now I've finished it. The ending spoils the replay value for me and I don't even think the game is as good as the past ones.

I cant stand true endings that make you do dumb stuff. Like playing on the hardest difficulty or you had to beat the game a very specific way. Im ok with true endings that are just get this 1 item or answer this one question.

As long as 100%ing a game doesn't mean having to do MP shit for trophies/achievements then I don't care. I just watch the shit on youtube anyway. I don't have that kinda gaming time.

I like multiple endings where the antagonist wins or the protagonist turns evil.

To this day I still want to see how the world would become if Wesker won against Chris in RE5. or what if Kratos lost against Zeus.

What? Like having canon endings that you have to earn instead of the shitty/non-canon endings?

I think it's a really cool concept. It's been done plenty of times before though.

It depends. I am okay with how games like Persona, Majora's Mask, Chrono Trigger, or visual novels such as 999 implement it.

The Batman method sounds like too much busywork.

I usually just end up youtubing them.

I dont have a problem with the concept. But most implementations are just ridiculous, requiring some tedium or something arbirary for an extra bit of lolvideogamestory.

Kind of. Usually I just roll with the story since most of the time they are throw away and only used to hold game loosely together. Sometimes though a story appeals to me and makes me that much more interested in the characters and story.

Like others said, it depends.

I think Symphony of the Night was fucking awesome for what it did. Flip the world upside down, load it up with new items, weapons, enemies, bosses and make it more challenging? Hell yeah. If I have to jump through some extra hoops to see another ending, make it worthwhile.

But then you have games on the polar opposite end like Peace Walker. A terribly repetitive grind fest that takes way too damn long just to see an underwhelming ending anyways.

I like multiple endings but only if the game allows choices from the get go that alter the ending and not just at the last minute. Fallout games with the exception of 3, BoS and Tactics do a great job at this.

Usually I dislike them. Just let me finish a game once and be done with it so I can move on.

Persona 4 and KOTOR might be my only exception.

I don't like this either. Like if people would play more for a better CGI scene. Maybe it's a reward for those who do everything of a game.

Depends on the execution. The visual novel style approach seems perfectly fine to me (like in Persona, Catherine, 999, Steins Gate, etc.). But the Arkham Knight style approach just seems tedious.

Different endings are cool, especially if the story of the game is a series of choices and consequences and the ending reflects that. Very few games seem to pull it off effectively.

"True" endings are kind of lame. When I think of games with "true" endings for whatever reason I think Japanese games that have batshit crazy stories I don't follow anyway, and like 24 different outcomes that almost seem entirely random.
