The best selling games for PS4 and Xbox One in the US (some observations)

NPD revealed the top selling games in the US by revenue for Xbox One and PS4 this gen... it's pretty enlightening. These are categorized by the top ten overall and top ten exclusive.

Some things of note

• There are no exclusives in the overall top ten for Xbox One
• Baseball is big on Playstation
• Xbox One is a Forza machine
• Racing isn't as big for Playstation in the US
• Red Dead ranks lower for Xbox than PS4 despite the huge $100 off promotion for Xbox consoles for buying the game that month
• Minecraft, despite regular appearances on NPD, didn't make the chart
• TLoU Remastered missing from the exclusives chart is surprising
• Destiny 2 outsold Halo games on Xbox... Bungie gets the last laugh?

We may not get hardware leaks anymore, but NPD releasing info like this is interesting.

Biggest surprise is seeing SoT charting.

For the Xbox One sub exclusives I'm more shock Rare Replay isn't on the charts and that Xbox One game is really fun. Sad it never got the respect it deserves among fans. Also, notice those sub exclusives are just Halo, Forza, & Gears. The only thing that's new IP on the Xbox One chart is Sea of Thieves, that is not good, ReCore or State of Decay/2 should at least be on the chart. It just goes to show Halo, Forza, Gears are MS big 3.

On PS4 side, it's a surprise Infamous: Second Son is in the chart as well. Still a fun game to play today's standards.

Other then Sea of Thieves none of that is really surprising. I thoroughly enjoy the Halo, Gears of War, and Forza games so I’m certainly ok with them dominating the charts.

On topic, this is why people call the Xbox a Halo/Gears/Forza machine. Seriously they only have one other IP in their top eight (side question, why 8 and not 10?). Every title in Sony's chart is a unique IP, three of which are brand new IPs.

Doesn't this simply prove the power of advertising? It doesn't matter if the games are good, just how much they are advertised and if they hit their key audiences. This is why sales don't mean a game is good.

No, what's really sad is the only original new IP that was actually a quality game (Sunset Overdrive) from MS didn't make the list.

It's crazy how tunnel vision xbox fans are with games. They wont support or buy games that try to do something different.

This is the stark difference between xbox and PS gamers. Xbox fans are apparently very close minded and don't put their money where their mouth is.

Looking at the xbox list it's a rinse wash repeat of the same 3 franchises MS has been pushing out the last 15 to 20 years!!! THE IRONY!
