3 for me was the best since we already knew big boss and i was curious about his background story and it delivered, dat ending.

MGS 3 >> MGS4 > MGS 1 > MGS 2

I really like 2 but 1 trumps it due to nostalgia. 4 was basically a nostalgia bomb but I thought it was slightly overrated. 3 was alright.

I only put 4 in front of PW because I'm a nostalgia slut. And that game was fan service to the max.

Ground Zeroes is where this franchise needs to go, and it makes me excited for The Phantom Pain.

I hate to say it but 4 was overrated. I remember when Eurogamer gave it an 8 and all the fanboys (including myself) were up in the arms. But they were actually right IMO.

Although I think the series are filled with nonsense storiesand ridiculously over the top acting I enjoyed them quite a bit.

The original was by far the best. (warning spoilers)

1. Metal Gear was reinvented and the original invented the 3d spy game.

2. The original probably had the best story. The whole Fox Die twist and learning of "liquid" was just brilliant. Psycho mantis is still the best boss fight ever

3. Metal Gear Solid 2 started good and then turned to shit once you starting playing as Raiden. (unfortunately it's early in the game.) The story also gets really strange and confusing.

4. Metal Gear Solid 3 was good to see the roots of Solid Snake and the whole program. The hunting system was kinda lame and the story was no where near as good as the original Metal Gear Solid.

5. Metal Gear Solid 4 was more of a movie than a game. Sure it did have parts of gameplay but it was mostly a movie.

1,4,3,2.Of course I still enjoyed each of them.

I havent played 4 yet.

The first and third I love the shit out of. Both on a gameplay level(as basic as the original is now, though I disagree with it being "dated' more shallow in comparison to what the series would do later) as well as the plot and universe being highly entertaining. 2 and 4 are ridiculous drivel giving way too much credit for fluff narrative for my liking. 2 is at least a very well designed game(definitely an improvement over one on many levels, and give or take on what you value more in how it stacks up to 3, but I love the more open feel of 3). 4 should have been excellent, and it has moments of genuine gameplay brilliance(act 1 and 2, Act 4 has that metal gear fight, act 5 has that dope final boss). But beyond that the game has some noteworthy shitty segments like the entirety of act 3, or the fact that shadow moses mostly sucks beyond pandering to a fanbase, or the fact that act 5 is like a quick stealth segment, then this lame ass fight against screaming mantis, only for this obnoxious microwave scene that actually hold zero weight as far as how much effort you put into it.

If Ground Zeroes is anything to go by, then I'm probably going to end up loving the shit out of The Phantom Pain. Barring some stupid plot decisions, though I found the base mechanics in Ground Zeroes to be Kojima proof.
