Lol at title. I have the Nextbox, it's the Xbox 360. You young ones must not realize the code names for the old machines, the Nextbox was one of the codenames that became the Xbox 360. That codename won't fly, but a few kiddies in SW are confusing the mass populace into thinking the 720/Durango has the same codename.
That's like calling the Wii U the Revolution.
Other old codenames :
Katana = Dreamcast
Starcube/Dolphin = Gamecube
Project Xbox = Xbox
Revolution = Wii
Ultra 64 = Nintendo 64
WiiWii/Wii 2 = Wii U
Nextbox/Xbox 2 = Xbox 360
720/Durango/Xbox 3/Next after Nextbox = ?
Sony was easy, PS2 = PS2, PS3 = PS3
The only exception was PSP2/NGP = PSV, Vita
PS4/ Orbis (highly unlikely, the only source was from Kotaku lol) = ?
Edit : In my haste, I didn't post "NGP" so thanks to the poster below D4W1 as that's legit. In my defense, I've educated many in SW on this exact issue before, so the redundancy on my part usually gets me posting a lot less than I would like. I also have older codenames for older machines as well, so I didn't forget them, I just decided on a cutoff point.
For the record, I've gone over this in SW before, provided old links to articles on gaming (I have a ton of old magazines as well), and it's like fighting a wave or stupidity in educating those that are too young, dumb, or stubborn to adjust their misinformation. It's usually a problem with accounts that started here at Gamespot.com after 2006 (Cant' recall insider information that was around in 2003-2005 as they were young). I know that's not the case of this TC (that is, deliberately misinforming denizens of SW so they look ignorant when the post at other sites), but the misinformation tactic is the case of a certain user(s), whose accounts also were also created in 2006/2007+. They were just simply too young to pay attention before this generation started I suppose, and won't listen to reason. While very few, they are some real charmers that repeatedly shows their collective ignorance and naiveté here in SW. I suspect this thread's mistitle is the result of his misinformation campaign, perhaps to get a laugh offsite at the community here? While it is hilarious in a way, it's more amusing to perhaps perpetuate this problem, and I think If I post just right, maybe I can see more stubborn behavior when I show my gaming friends in RL at the SW community. This is after all a Magazine representing a fragment of the community. I have only a tiny indicator on how much professionalism is involved, so I extend this bit of info. :P Maybe, just maybe, we'll all just learn from this and move on. :P
Either way, when this generation closes, only a minority of posters at Gamespot.com will be confused when this "using-old-code-names" trend starts yet again NEXT GEN when teh PS4, Wii U 2, et cetera are on the verge of coming out. :P
