Super Mario 64 or Galaxy - which did you like more?

I actually liked Super Mario 64 more. It was a revolution at the time. It was so cool and totally sold me on the N64 (well, that and a whole slew of games). So I'm glad Super Mario Oddysey is taking queue from this game and going sandbox style of play. What about you, SW? Which did you like more?

Mario 64 will always have a soft spot in my heart and I do like it more so then I did for Galaxy.

Galaxy to me. I got 120 stars on both Galaxy games and I was hooked 'til the end. Level design is brilliant. Mario 64 was good but...... it didn't wow me. I played on the 64 and replayed on the DS. Through I gotta admit, Mario 64 has a better moveset.

I have a slight preference for the Mario 64 sandbox type levels, and the over-world with more secrets to find. But Galaxy is also great.

Super Mario 64, but only because of nostalgia and it being my very first 3D game.

Super Mario Galaxy is the better 3D platformer across the board.

Galaxy easily for me. I didn't grow up with 64 so it comes with all of its age and technical problems with no nostalgia to counter it.

64 for me! It was mind-blowing at the time. Me and my buddies played it for hours. I remember running from store to store for over a week trying to find a N64 at launch. Remember those days when you couldn't just go online and order something :) I never did finish Galaxy but it was an OK game.

Mario 64 is one of my all-time favorite games. I love the world, level designs, and finding all the secrets. Galaxy was great too and is ranked just below Mario 64 in the 3D platformer category in my opinion.

I liked them both alot, in my opinion Galaxy 1, 2 and Mario 64 are among the best 3D marios. If I had to pick, Galaxy 2.

Galaxy mostly because the soundtrack is amazing.

Galaxy, and it's not even a debate. I liked 64 when it was new, but I think it's terrible to play now. On the flip side, Galaxy, and especially Galaxy 2, are among my favorite Mario's ever. As far as design goes, I also much prefer obstacle courses over sandboxes in platformers.

Definitely Super Mario 64.

Super Mario 64 was revolutionary and amazed me when it was released. I could never really get into Super Mario Galaxy since I hated the controls so much; I wish Nintendo would have let us use the Classic Controller to play Galaxy.

Super Mario 3D World is my favorite of the 3D Mario games.

Mario Galaxy has aged better, and is the better game overall.

Galaxy for me. But still my all time favorite is Super Mario World. It was just perfect for me.

Galaxy 2>3D World>Galaxy>64

But Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World are better than any 3D Mario.

Galaxy 2 > Mario 64 = Galaxy > 3D World > Sunshine

That's my order for the 3D Marios, but they are all incredible in my opinion.

Maybe. I have not played it in over a decade, so I can't assess it fairly. I hated it like hell when it came out, though.

I really enjoyed the way it encouraged you to replay levels, maximizing content without ever feeling repetitive.

Replayed Sonic Adventure recently, which tried something similar with multiple characters, it was very horrific.

I agree about the 3d Mario being better, while Sonic transition was bad, and never fitted 3D, Mario is significantly better in 3D. New Super Mario Bros revisited a flat plane and reminded us how inferior it was.

Galaxy is a very emotional game.

I loved Mario 64 back in the day but Galaxy 1 & 2 are simply godly so I'll go with Galaxy.

As far as 3d Mario games go, the only one I liked less than Mario 64 was Sunshine.

I guess Galaxy gets points for ambition, but 3D World is just so tight, and in general better designed (imo at least), that I have to give it mad props

Yoshi Island has best bosses giant pirahna plant and giant stuff is epic

SMW is overhyped just look at how boring the bosses are in that game and tanooki suit owns the cape

Enjoyed Doki Doki Mario more so than Super Mario World. Especially the Gameboy Advance Version. Very unique title with surprisingly excellent gameplay even though it's nothing like any of the others, which inadvertently lends more character than Super Mario World.

It's a blessing the Japanese thought Americans were shit at games.

If it was around 2009, I would have said 64 like the immature f***wit I was (YMMV). But now? I'd take the Galaxy games.

As much as i love Super Mario 64...it has aged...bad. So i have to go with Galaxy.

And what exactly makes a "true" Mario game (besides Mario 2 US, which was a copy paste of Doki Doki Panic)? Seriously, this is a franchises that has expanded and spread so FAR into games, it's not funny.

Mario 64s mechanics are better; but I'll take the moment to moment level design excellence of the Galaxy games. It's better than 3D world, but that says more about how 3D worlds lamer mechanics and overly focus tested feel takes some of the spark out of the experience.
