For those of you who already have a nextgen console (xbone or ps4 doesn't matter i guess wii u too for those who think that it should be considered) will you be getting a second nextgen console or a steambox? It's out now that they will be starting at $500 for performance and hardware superior to that of the nextgen consoles. They will be small form factors. Come with a controller. And fit nicely under your tv or wherever you want to put it.

I assume consolites who do not have nextgen consoles yet will go ahead and get the console of their choice as they should. So if you already have a next gen console and are the manticore (read true gamer imo) type what do you go for. A PSBone or a shiny new steambox to dive into the refreshing waters the Master Race has been bathing in all this time?

You have access to mod support. You don't have to purchase yet another online subscription. You have access to steam sales. You have access to even more peripherals (occulus rift anyone?). All your games will be 1080 at 60fps. You will be able to play multiplats in their true form. Would all these things and many more be more appealing to you than a second console

As a side note if you already have a gaming rig and nextgen console obviously this isn't directed at you. For instance I probably wont get a steambox since I have a rig so I'm in the market for a PSBone. But for those console only manticores who were planning on buying two systems anyway, I'm wondering if the steambox will appeal to you because it seems like you are one of the targeted demographics.

1080p and 60fps can not be guarantee for all games but certainly a setting to achieve that since its a pc made to play games anyways. This is probably mainly for people interested in gaming on a PC that don't wanna build one and want something that fits better in their living room.

1080p and 60fps are attainable for all games on PC (unless the developer purposefully locks the fps like some do for ports). 1080p, 60fps, and MAX settings are not. There is a difference. But if you want to run games at 1080p and 60fps the R9 270 that is in the $500 steambox will do that at "console like" settings or better without breaking a sweat.

@NFJSupreme:

Was referring to games that will run on it because we don't how well the performance for the steam machine will be so it might not run a game well at that setting if its poorly optimize.

Get a Wii U and either PS4 or X1. Steambox and SteamOS still have a long way to go on the software before it becomes a viable alternative.

I think it'll be rare to find a game that runs on either console being incapable of running on an R9 270 at 1080p and 60 fps.

And certainly basing it off of hope is much better.

There's a Japanese Steam Page. There's also a couple of Games that are made by Japanese Developers on Steam.

I don't see why the Japanese wouldn't support SteamMachines, Considering Steam Machines are really just Computers Cleverly designed to look like Consoles.
