Star Citizen gameplay looking rough

Once you get past the promo trailers and bullshots Star Citizen is looking pretty bad. For a game with a 100 million dollar budget, over 3 years of development time built exclusively for high end PC's it sure is unimpressive. We've read the reports that Chris Roberts and his wife have been spending the money that was supposed to go towards game development on summer homes and lavish vacations. Considering how bad the game currently looks and with no release date in sight it appears that those rumors were true.

Let's not crush hermit's dreams and hopes now, for we would need them to entertain us for a little longer on SW ;).

I'm looking forward to the day Chris Roberts gets charged with embezzlement, and all the money he stole from these suckers for their fake spaceships is lost forever. The outrage will be epic. Then maybe they'll learn not to throw money at a failed project with no clear goals, deadlines or proper management.

According to that logic every game developer on this planet has to embezzle money. I haven't seen a single alpha version of any game (if available to the public) that wasn't rough so yeah, they're all fucking robbers! :P

I just realized Star Citizen must be giving fanboys nightmares. If done right this game could put to shame pretty much anything graphically for years to come. Not only that but if it's even half as good and ambitious as planned it'll own almost every game out there.

Of course, and many games are in development for even longer before they get anywhere. Look at Final Fantasy 15. Look at The Last Guardian. The ambition and scope of this game is simply stupidly vast, I imagine they were more focused on getting all the moving parts to work together than they were on the graphics- which, I might remind you, are the last thing that is finally nailed down during the development of any game. Focusing on pre-alpha screens and saying the game looks bad or the developers are embezzling money in this case seems fallacious to me.

1) It doesn't look terrible, you just exaggerate for whatever reason (with picking bad screenshots on purpose). The alpha is just rough around the edges with unfinished animations, no AA solution yet implemented and other things that are typical to alpha versions. Everybody who knows at least he basics of game development can get that in proper lane.

2) Three years is nothing for big games, especially if it's big and truly ambitious. Watch_Dogs was five years in development, Fallout 4 even longer. GTA V had an even much bigger budget and its final product on PC took even much longer and looked worse than Star Citizen in its current alpha state, after a much shorter development time. Wow, amazing, right?

3) The budget wasn't there from the beginning. A lot of it was collected in the last year. Much of it is used for additional stuff, especially new gameplay systems, not to improve the speed with which the graphics and engine are updated. Anyway, technological updates have to be made before the graphcis get finalized.

4) No real PC gamer cares about exclusives. They just want to play good games on their platform of choice. And developers surely even care less about PC exclusiveness. Star Citizen is PC-only so far because consoles can't run the game and CI have no interest in spending money for grading down the game until it would run on them. That's about it.

Its pretty obvious how the development is going if you have played what is released so far, graphical fidelity is not as important as making the different modules that make up the game actually work and work together. It is rough, its very buggy and it crashes all the time;- because its still being developed...

It's amazing how much money they've got to get this thing together, I'm surprised Roberts hasn't renamed it Bling Commander.

It's not THAT much for a AAA game, made mostly in the US and UK today. Just look how much GTA V consumed and that game was way less ambitious. But nevertheless it's surprising that fans spend so much money for a game upfront.

I own the game, play it regularly and can confirm the game looks incredible. It's glitchy as heck still but graphically it's the best thing out there. OP is an idiot, the hundred million has gone to some of the highest production values in any game ever. In motion the game is a thing of beauty, arguing otherwise just shows stupidity

Back on topic, the game is still in Alpha. We'll be getting Squadron 42 this year and Star Citizen probably next year. It's still far from ready and frankly I'm surprised they are letting us play it this early. What I've played so far in the alpha it's a really great game with a lot of promise. If Chris Roberts ends up being a crook then so be it but I doubt he's pulling people's legs on this one. The game seems legit.

Yeah the game is looking pretty rough in its current state, but as everyone has said it's still a long way off being finished. All we can do is hope everything goes to plan and the game is a success.

I don't think they're trolling, just dumb. Unless you've played the game you can't really judge at all because to play it is an entirely different experience than what the trailers and previous hype hinted at.

The game looks better and the gameplay is better than expected. Even if Star Citizen fails they've created the raw assets for an incredible game down the road. It's the closest any game has ever been to a real experience of flying in space. The ships are insansely fast, I expected slow lumbering beasts but the opposite is true, controlling the throttle is difficult purely because of how fast the ships fly. I eagerly await the next release.

Not only do those screens not even represent the games max current settings. It's fucking a alpha for **** sakes so of course it's missing shit like anti aliasing etc.... The games been in development for 3 years that is no time at all compared to things like GTA5 or the star wars MMO or WOW. And in case your one of the console players who thinks an alpha is like a beta test or the equivalent. It's not, an alpha test in which the current version is 2.0 is a true alpha test. As in it's not even a quarter of the games systems or content in the current version released for testing.

Also produce evidence of your claims of Chriss and his family spending all the cash. Show Proof or shut the **** up about shit you know nothing about.
