So after all that it is more expensive than the expansion card.
UK: Xbox = £179 (Slow memory card)
UK: PS5: = £144 (random 4000/5000 speed SSD)
US must be vastly different on pricing, unless Sony are restricting all compatible SSD's to Seagate Firecuda 530.
The Xbox Expansion card is a custom high performance CFExpress card that matches the internal SSD in performance. Right now a good 128GB CFExpress card that is falf the speed cost more than the 1TB Expansion card.
So imo I think it was a good choice to have. It matches the internal SSD for speed, is much better value than other CFExpress cards and is very simple to install. Where as Sony has to worry about heat, power draw and people taking the console apart to install it.
So in retrospect I understand the choice MS made with this.
