WOAH These are some pretty big games that are getting shut down aren't they? People made a big deal out of it when MS shut down the online play for the original Xbox. People were complaining about the old Halo games being shut down. Can't believe some of these games being shut down. Motorstorm, GRID, MAG, Resistance, GT5. Is White Knight Chronicles a big deal? Isn't it too soon?
Previously decommissioned titles:
PlayStation 3
The Eye of Judgment
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
MotorStorm
MotorStorm Pacific Rift
Race Driver: GRID
The Lord of The Rings: Conquest
White Knight Chronicles
White Knight Chronicles II
As of 28 January 2014:
MAG
As of 28 March 2014
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Resistance 3
As of 20 May 2014
Gran Turismo 5

Sony is not throwing Resistance under the bus. Insomniac already put and end to the franchise, and they dont work with SONY anymore either.
COuldn't care less about any of those games. Most of them probably have dead online communities anyway. It would just be a waste of money keeping them running. Is a wise decision from Sony. As for White Knight Chronicles 1 & 2, that game was the biggest pile of shit JRPG I've played in a long while. I'd play FFXIII over that shit.
Most of them probably have dead online communities anyway.
So does perfect dark zero on 360, an old as hell game with barely anyone playing today online. Yet if you and your friend for some strange reason want to play online you can. Halo 3, GoW1, 7 years and still up and running.
Why MS still keeps the games running but Sony doesn't? MS did kill original xbox games too soon but looks like they're not repeating the same mistake with 360.
Online for PS3 was free, makesa business sense to screw customers over by closing the free portion so they ahve to buy games that use PS+ so they can get da monies from you. after all, going cheap ont he components for the DS4 controller didn't seem to save them enough cash, so this is step two of "operation: get the gamers to bail sony out of debt"
GT5 getting the whack this early? Weak sauce.
Yeah i'm really surprised they're doing it so soon. Surely a game that has sold as much as GT5 must have a pretty big online community.

Proof there is only a handful of lems left here. If it was the other way around, the cows would have torn the lems a new ass. As it is they find the slightest in negative articles and it's go time for them.
I completely understand shutting down single player focused games, but seriously, how can you shut down online only games like MAG?
That seems wrong.
What does the community size look like? It sucks, but if the palyer base doesn't justify the cost of keeping the servers up, it's a smart move.
I have no problem with the list with the exception of GT5. I thought a lot of people still played that, I guess they are really trying to drive up GT6 sales.
Closing the GT5 servers is lame.. way to "force" your fans to buy your latest game..
Others are old as ****, so good riddance
Don't worry I'm sure the community will keep the games alive.
They will rent new servers and perhaps even add mods!!!
Oh wait, this is console gaming we're talking about, what a shame. Keep paying your $50 yearly to Sony, after all, the guys disconnecting the servers must get paid too.
My issue is seeing copies of MAG still being sold in stores just mere months of it's servers going down. They better authorize a complete stop of distribution because I'd be a pretty pissed off customer if I bought MAG a month prior to it not functioning anymore.
You can still play the bots i believe.
@MonsieurX: some good Xmas jelly.
Please,kill my online games!
I'd love that
Jelly? :)
Shutting down GT5 is shady as hell. Halo 2, for instance, lived for a further 3 years after the release of Halo 3.
This is why I rarely game online. I just can't stand the thought of investing so much of my time into something to have it erased and not being able to play it again in the future.
Screw online and DD. I would like to own and play my games. Single player rules.
Agree with many who say its somehow MS fault LOL. I don't see what's hard to understand. This company is in massive debt. You tighten up at these times.
That's the problem with console online multiplayer. They will always be removed. Sorry to say this but PC multiplayer is always the best. You have PC games from over 10 years ago and they still get online support. Not being a fanboy or anything but that's the truth.

PS4 just released and already sony is starting to shut down the online component of some games, most notably Gran Turismo 5...sounds like a really shitty way to make people buy GT6...
I can understand M.A.G. and the terrible SOCOM games, but I just started playing White Knight Chronicles 1 & 2 and I wanted to play Motostorm online some more. I guess I better get back to playing these games.
No one ever played MotorStorm online bro.... those servers were empty even on launch week of the release of the games.
I have played Motorstorm online for a couple weeks and this was many months after the game had launched. There were a bunch of people stil playing at that time. I wanted to play the sequel online though.

Sony's on a tight budget.
Seems Sony is trying to save every penny. Hope they don't plan on selling more HQ buildings in 2014.
I don't see why they bother to shut down servers... I mean how much does it cost to keep a game server running. If nobody plays the games anymore then put all those games on a shared server in virtual machines if they have to. There is no reason to ever shut down servers for anything. It's not like bandwidth costs much, and even if it did you can only play one online game at a time anyway.
