Retail Behemoth Wal-Mart partners with iBuyPower to sell custom PC gaming rigs

This is good news for PC gaming, IMHO.

Most people's introduction to PC gaming features a prebuilt gaming PC. It's not until a second build that PC gamers tend to buy parts to BIY. So cheap PC gaming rigs in the US's most popular retailer = more PC gamers. More PC gamers = good :)

What do you guys think?

Pretty awesome, hopefully that gives the PC gaming community a good boost.

Im very happy with my IBuyPower rig, Im sure others will be too.

idk how much money wal-mart invested in this, but i'm sure they are in for a loss. but then again wal-mart is a multi billion dollar company that can affored this

Good for PC gaming if they charge a reasonable price and not be like Alienware. I dont really know what's so hard with building a rig. I have more trouble with a lego set.

I saw Walmart.com had IBuyPower and CyberPowerPC pre-built Rigs on their site. I was pretty surprised at that actually :P

But that's neat that they're allowing people to pick and choose their parts on the walmart site now.

It takes time and effort. Plus their are risks involved.

Ibuypower is reasonable so I see this as a definite good thing.

I was going to use iBuyPower but I put the same parts into Newegg and it was a couple hundred cheaper to build it myself. Plus, I don't have to spend $75 shipping like I would with iBuyPower

Not according to the current listings. I priced out a decent rig for $600. The parts would have been $500. So for $100 you get windows + a warranty + build and test of the system.

I thiink that's reasonable.

With to high price tag, you got newegg in america you know.

You can customize it on Walmart's site (I just checked it out :P).

Guess this is good for people who don't know how to build one.

Well I think its kind of fun and exciting too, but not everyone is this way. Some people just want to play games. Theres nothing wrong with that.

That might get you 10 frames per second in Just Cause 2 on high if you're lucky, and assuming you play well under HD resoulutions.
Strictly a medium settings, 1280x1024 resolution build. And for nearly 3x the cost of the cheapest 360 sku before shipping.

Wow, the price of ram is ridiculous on their site. $40 for 2 gb is way overpriced.

Pretty nice, and opens gaming to more people. 1,100, with a i5 and a 570 and a 1080p monitor not bad

they've been selling ibuypower pc's on the wal-mart website for a while now. but its good that they will sell more of them, even if i'm not a big fan of wal-mart... simply because it expands the pc gaming market :)

Please stop misinforming. There's so much wrong with this it's not even funny.

First of all, no OS means there's no OS installed and you will need a separate copy of Windows to install on the BLANK hard drive. It even explicitly states on the page "No Operating System is included or installed." So add on another $100.

The hard drive they provide is 80GBs which is small as hell by today's standards. You would run out of space after installing a few games. So add on another $45 for a bigger hard drive.

Buying a second stick of RAM will be difficult because you will have to find a match for the first stick. That said, 4GBs is the new standard of RAM these days which adds another $50 since it's DDR2 RAM.

A no-name 365 watt power supply will by no means run a GTX 580. I would be surprised if it could even run a GTS 450 which is MUCH lower. I doubt it has the stability to handle cards above $100.

The case is a mini-tower so on top of it all it won't even fit the most video cards within the case itself.
