PS4 FW 1.7 will have preloading and "share factory"

A new video came out showing off the new features for Sony's 1.7 firmware update and some stuff confirmed are Share factory and preloading

Take Your Share Anywhere

Once you’re done with your masterpiece, you can easily share your SHAREfactory videos to Facebook, or export them to an external USB storage device to upload them elsewhere, another new feature coming as part of the 1.70 system software update. Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. In addition to these SHARE enhancements, the 1.70 update will allow you switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can record and share longer clips of your gameplay sessions — a feature I know many of you have been waiting for. We are excited to see what the PlayStation Nation does with these new social features, and cannot wait to get them into your hands!

Play as Soon as the Game is Released

Providing you with immediate access to your games is a priority designed into PS4, and something we will always strive to make better. We’ve had a great response from PS4 fans about the Play as You Download feature, the snappy load times when launching and playing games, and the general speed and responsiveness of the UI. The 1.70 update adds features to build on this idea and make it faster to play the games you pre-order with an auto pre-download capability, which allows you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. If you have the auto-download feature enabled, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the game is unlocked on release day.

Sweet, finally will be able to record PS4 footage. I tried workarounds suggested by others but still couldn't bypass it. Smell ya later HDCP!

Preloading is a very good feature for consoles and finally digital games make sense there.

The problem is game sizes are ballooning, I cringe at the thought of having to download 40 gig games.

titanfall on pc was 40+gb when i downloaded it, took around 2-3 hours if i remember correctly. also if u have background download enabled it will download it while u are sleeping, im still not going digital though

Looks good for those that are into sharing. I'm not one, but more power to those that are.

I been hearing that the same people who did Sony Vegas Pro are the same ones working on updating the PS4's video editing and sharing app which is really nice

This is cool and all but when...in the hell...can I change my wallpaper and see be notified when friends come online??

I have no idea how much of a pain in the ass it's been for those who captured PS4 footage before this, but this opens doors for startup channels like mine.

Themes are most likely coming really soon, if you go on the PSBlog and look into the comments you'll see a bunch of people requesting that and Sony's update manager replying to one saying they are listening to the themes requests.

Who knows these days. I can be a completely offensive asshole and all is well. If I do something that is funny and harmless I get modded. Even got my alt banned even though I wasn't violating the TOU in any way. Just because a mod personally felt like banning it.

Then I have to deal with these PM lectures from Super600 that make zero sense and he can't even answer the most basic questions for me because the guy is brain dead.

So yeah man, getting modded here is random. Just make sure you pray to the almighty spaghetti monster and you'll be fine.

The share feature is cool but I don't see myself using it much.

Eh, i have no interest in sharing my gameplay on Facebook/youtube etc..but cool for those that want it.

Preloading! Brilliant, i've hoped this would become widespread, so much better than fighting to download on launch day.

There was a lot of stuff not standard at release for some reason. I still can't pause, stop or prioritise different downloads. The system auto downloads everything all at the same time so I have to delete certain downloads to prioritise the ones I want every time

Thats cool and all, but where is the option to pause, prioritize downloads.

Share factory sounds good, I like that they let you change the length of video captures, it pisses me off when you want to capture a goal in FIFA or a cool little sequence and instead you end up with a 15 minute clip of nonsense.

Let's hope so.

Pro tip: double tap the share button to start recording at a specific point.

No lol. My xbox one just got that feature like 3 days ago. For some reason, Sony and Microsoft really dropped the ball on some of these software features.

What is HDCP?

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. It's basically a form of digital copy protection and DRM that prevents you from copying digital audio and video content.

Just to add to why it's important to be able to toggle it off for people who don't know, is it allows us to record PS4 footage with external capture cards directly now instead of using bypasses

Know what you mean. The way it's going, they're expecting people to have fibre broadband or something, which is unrealistic right now. As games get bigger, the viability of digital downloading gets further away.
