[QUOTE="CyanX73"]Well from what RV6 shows, some devs aren't working as hard as others. Sony's inhouse people are really busting their butts on their games and so are companies like Square and Konami. It isn't selling well? Considering the system is 600 plus dollar, and has no games at the moment the PS3 is selling almost exactly what 360 was selling at this point in it's existence. You lems gotta stop saying that the PS3 isn't selling well because it's just not true. Within 2 months the PS3 will have games dropping non stop. By years end there will be more games than many can buy and an increased installed base. AvIdGaMeR444

1. It has been said that PS3 is more costly to develop games for

2. PS3 may have sold as many consoles as Xbox 360 did in the same time period. HOWEVER, software on PS3 is selling MUCH WORSE than Xbox 360 software. The attach rate is TERRIBLE. THAT is where devs make their money!

3. PS3 consoles are dropping off in sales quickly. Xbox 360 had a shortage for a few months. PS3 did not not. PS3 is sitting on store shelves. Xbox 360 userbase kept rising during its 1st year. PS3 userbase isn't rising nearly as much now. It is struggling to compete with GBA...

PS3 also had a shortage at the start. I mean look at the worldwide launch it had with Europe and all

[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"]Are you jealous of a game system or something? Oh no the PS3 gets to have games!!!! People support the PS3 cause they know there are 100+ million PS2 owners who are ready to go next-gen. Besides wouldn't you support a console who's predecessors sold over 200+ million?blackice1983

all my friends worshiped sony with the ps2 and now all moved over to the 360. and some instead of having a 360 and ps3 have a 360 and wii. its funny that you think that theres actually 100million ps2 owners

You don't think it's sold over 100 million? I knew Cows weren't liked around here, but now yall are taking away sales numbers? Fine then the Wii hasn't sold 7 million.

By your logic, why bother developing ANY games for both the PS3 and 360 since it costs millions more to create games on those consoles when compared to the Wii.

Well Xbox = 24 million

GC = 20 million last gen.

PS2 = 115-120 Million and it's still selling.

Sony created a beast when they made the PS2

PS2 has nothing to do with PS3

Well at the end of the day no matter how much the ps3 costs,or how much it has sold it is the most powerful game console on the market today, and company's like square-enix and developers like Hideo Kojima want to develop on the ps3 because they enabled them to do what they want, what they envision, and that is really the whole reason why Sony was so successful with the ps1 and ps2...because it enables developers to make their dreams that the other consoles at the time didn't enable them to do. (cd and dvd were perhaps the two biggest key parts of the ps1 and ps2 that helped Skyrocket them past the competition)

The answer to your questions is easy. 100+ PS2 sold. Microsoft sold 30 million original xbox. they have currently sold only about 10 million 360. That means that 20 million of the Xbox customers haven't upgraded eventhough the xbox is no longer supported. This is a bad sign. I mean what are they waiting for?

Meanwhile the PS2 that is still supported customer base haven't decided to upgrade yet. but since the PS1 had the same. The exact same slow transition from PS1 to PS2. Many developers feel that PS3 will very likely exhibit the same trend. So to be honest the system war isn't over. there are 120 million players out there that haven't decided to go next gen yet. Majority of them are playing God of War 2. Next Year God of War 3 comes to PS3. And with more Titles coming out for PS3, Free online, Home and other features. Many 3rd party developers are banking on the champ.

As for Nintendo. they were the king of vaporware. They always promised things that never came about. I had a Nintendo followed by SuperNintendo. All my friends had Genesis. When CD games were getting popular Nintendo Power promised CD would plug into the SuperNintendo. But it never happened. They again promised the Hdd for the N64 but by that time I was finished with Nintendo's lies.

As for 3rd parties like ubisoft not trying to make good ports. Are you off your tree? What company waste money by making a port they "purposely" made inferior? Making ports for the wii is hard. It requires a total different type of programming. its not just a port but a whole new game due to the controls. But many developers say that are working hard to develop better games for the wii. (June issue of Game Informer) As for SquareEnix. Ask yourself. your going to make a rpg with one disc then make a port with 3 or more disc? That's not SquareEnix fault that Xbox decided not to make the HD Dvd the game format. Microsoft decided to do that all on their own. And as games get bigger and bigger than 8 gigs. More 3rd Parties will have to make Multi disc games which cut into the profits. Then you'll complain with they start to charge you more for ports.

yeah there are just as many 360 games as the PS3 in its 1st year. But Microsoft didn't give its customers a choice. They cancelled the Xbox and stop all support of the system. Microsoft was telling customer to upgrade now. After only 5 years? Many had bought an Xbox just the previous year and bang no new games. Get a 360! Sony is still supporting the PS2 customers with titles like God of War 2,Bully, FF12 and more to come. Cause Sony says they make a system to last 10 years. They just stopped production of the PS1 after 11 years. All the developers don't have the problems that the Xbox 360 is giving them.

1) not all of the 10 million xbox 360 users have a hdd. (this makes it harder to program for the Xbox 360 as stated by GTA 4 programmers)

2) Limit of 8gig with DVD game format. (Multi Disc? or Lost of levels like PS2 vs Xbox?)

3) No HDMI for the first two model of Xbox 360 (No true 1080p which in the future will be the format of many games)

These are the reasons developers are sticking by Sony. Sure some have taking exclusive off the table. That's cause the main reason for 3rd devs are in the business is to make money. So I too would make games for 360. The more I sell the better my profits. As for the games being harder to develop for PS3. many developers said that both systems have their pros and cons. but the reason I gave above aren't software related by hardware and that something programming can't overcome.

Will the Ps1 sold about 90 million and the PS2 sold about 100+ million. so there are about maybe somewhere between that amount. Why do you think Microsoft abandoned the Xbox? Cause the 30 million they had after 5 years wasn't good enough. They wanted the numbers that Sony was showing. Final Fantasy series has sold 70 million copies. the gaming industry is a billion dollar industry. even if there aren't say about 100 million users. ( I do believe there are) Sony sold that many units and I believe it will do it again.

I think it is doing fine. Selling as much as the 360 was at this time in the 360s life. Software is marginal but there really arn't that many titles worth owning yet.

Give it a bit of time. I think sales will stay where they are and may even improve when some games come out. Then a price drop will send the system skyrocketing, but that won't be for awhile.

Wasdie

add in a price drop within the next 6 months and it'll sell well. Blu-ray will be much cheaper around christmas so sony can lower the price... then it'll do really good

Didn't sony just set a new record for the playstation franchise selling 1 milion in less time than PS2? Not only the console more powerful than its previous console ( and the all consoles this gen), its selling faster in one of its strongest regions:|.

Beleive it or not, things are actually going quite well for PS3, and since most games use UE3 it isn't hard to support both platforms not only that. Developers try hard because of the benefits in developing for a console that supports Blu-ray.Hd,hdd on all versions.

They all bet on it winning before it was released and have invested a lot of resources on it. If worst comes to worst developers can always port their games to the 360 or PC but depending on how much they have optimised their game for PS3 it might be hard and time consuming. So they are going to wait and see if the PS3 does pick up in sales.

the attach rate is slow because the games coming out haven't been top quality with the exception of a few notables such as first party titles r:fom and motorstorm, the other notable game is oblivion. Everything else is basically crap right now, but thats mainly because alot of the hyped 1st party and 3rd party games haven't come out yet and won't until the fall. The software doesn't sell now bc the effort hasn't been there from developers and the games that will come soon. Developers and sony both screwed up coming out of the gate and needed more time developing good software for a radically different machine.
