It's slow going in Shadow of Chernobyl. But, I made it to the level with the Secret Lab.One thing I like about this game is the light I use is like a Monolith magnet. So, I tend to not use it. But, I can also look at any movement of light far away and know one of the Monolith is waiting for me.

I just put on a new exoskeleton and it's already damaged.

Taking a break (just for today) from vanilla Shadow of Chernobyl (on the PC) and trying out ShoC with Complete Mod 2009 on the laptop. Let's see. I see the mod makes the game a bit more player-friendly with sleeping bag and 60 kg weight limit. The sleeping bag helps with the long tedious waits. The extra 10 kg does a lot to help carry stuff. The mod should also have Absolute Nature integrated in it and it shows with some sunshine.

Finished Shadow of Chernobyl. Too bad the built-in screenshot function doesn't capture cutscenes.

I was shocked when these guys teleported right in front of Strelok. Nothing to do but jump back down the ledge, run like hell to put some distance, and snipe headshots.

Those who finished the game will know these were the last bad guys before the finish.

As part of my backlog reduction......

I reinstalled STALKER: Clear Sky (with Sky Reclamation Project) on the laptop. Since it's on the laptop, I won't be playing it as much. Hopefully, I'll have the interest to play the game to the finish unlike last time. I'm not a big fan of faction-choosing.

While I have Clear Sky (with SRP) on the laptop, I'm doing a second playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl (with Complete Mod 2009) on the PC. Already, the game feel more friendly....aka easier than vanilla. ;)

Night-fighting without night vision is confusing.......as it should be.

The STALKER games feel like an RPG at times, especially Call of Pripyat. But, even Shadow of Chernobyl can too. I chose the smartass dialogue while chatting with these Duty creeps. And? I joined the guys they just ambushed.

Show me where in the game menu is global illumination. But, I can play the game just fine if I enabled my suit lamp. In fact, it is on in that screenshot. That version had Absolute Nature (only) installed.

We'll see on this new version I'm playing which has Complete Mod 2009 installed.

Call of Pripyat does a better job with global illumination which shows the differences when there is a moon out or not, cloudy or clear skies, etc.

It's in the .cfg file.... you can turn it on and off and change amount of photons and such....

It was one of the first game engines to support it, developers just chose to disable it completely for performance reasons at the time....not so much a problem now.

I'll try it out. The goal of my first playthrough was to experience the game as close as possible to the vanilla version. I'll see this one with the Complete Mod and GI enabled.

Let's compare Global Illumination off and on. Oh. Earlier, I also had brightness turned down a notch. Now, it's back to default with GI enabled (depth = 5). Cool.

Anyway, I think Absolute Nature on the first playthrough had GI enabled while Complete Mod 2009 on the current playthrough did not.....after looking at the older screenshots. Or, maybe not. Ah, screw it. I'm getting confused over nothing. ;)

Testing out my new 2080 Ti. Threw a reshade onto my Odyssey and tweaked some settings.

Took some before and after shots with MXAO enabled, and a couple of other settings I personally tweaked.

The game is a severe slide into the land of bland normally. This is on max settings.

However, add some reshade, and we have...

I don't know how console people do it. Chugging at barely 30 fps, lower settings, and the bland colors/no depth? Blegh.

Your PS4 can't do Ambient Occlusion, and it's blurrier than hell. Tell you what, why don't you throw up a PS4 Pro image and we'll compare. I know you won't, though. The only guy that's ever thrown up any pictures is Quadknight. The rest of you PS4 guys talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. I doubt you even have a PS4 Pro.

STALKER: Clear Sky.

I applied SRP, Absolute Nature, and Absolute Structures to my install. The swamp looked okay. But, Cordon just looks yucky, almost Fallout 3 graphics bad. Once I get rid of my pistol, I can also disable the crosshairs. Don't like crosshairs. ;) But, there is no pistol iron sights.

Unless you have an HDR monitor then a screen shot is pointless.... And PS4 can and does do AO you moron.

But you keep enjoying bland colours, weak contrast and poor brightness in Odyssey compared to my Pro.

Are you seriously suggesting the PS4 Pro version of AC: Odyssey is better than the PC version? LOL

He is playing ultrawide 3440x1440 at high frame rates with superior graphics settings. Also, the PC version can be played in HDR as well.

You are getting owned yourself.

P.S. @tormentos has a better thumb than you. It is legendary. LOL

I didn't have many issues with Duty in ShoC. But, bugs in the game rendered a bunch of stalkers dead at Rostok, including Col. Petrenko. He's the Duty trader. After that, there was no way to buy Duty stuff.

The vanilla game was really messed up. The side missions came up automatically as soon as I entered the map. I suppose it's not bad if I required moolah. But, you know. The same exact missions all the time can get tedious, not to mention I had to go (on foot) to a different map so I can collect. But, I finished the vanilla game. So, I'm trying out ShoC with the Complete Mod 2009.

His tweaked PC version clearly shows superior depth and colour in SDR mode compared to PS4 Pro. Any HDR benefits can also be had on the PC version. Even if he is not playing the game in HDR on PC, his experience is still vastly superior to playing the game in HDR on PS4 Pro. Too many compromises on the PS4 Pro version.

@BassMan: And you're still missing the point.....but getting warmer...

And his superior depth is debatable and personal..... darkening shadows and AO is not something I find attractive or impressive.

I hated dark shadows and AO in the original Crysis configs as it looks unnatural.

Still.......darken a few things and call it impressive....some people are easily pleased.

And my point still stands....playing in HDR on my Pro gives me better colour accuracy, brightness and contrast over his 'tweaked settings.

The resolution and graphical settings are irrelevant as they were never mentioned so idea why you have butted in and mentioned them.

He tried to claim superior colours over console and then gets bitch slapped down when HDR is bought in to it.

@scatteh316: Does playing on PS4 Pro in HDR remove that nasty filter that makes everything look blurry and dull? It's like a nasty haze. I wonder how this impacts the actual colour accuracy and contrast of the HDR version. Those default PC SDR shots do not look impressive and the PS4 Pro version must be worse. Also, the AO implementation in the tweaked screenshots should not be understated as it adds a lot of depth to the scene.

For the record, I have not played the game in any capacity. I am just going by my experience with playing both PC and PS4 Pro games in HDR on my OLED TV. As much as I love good contrast and colours, I would not play a compromised version of a game to play in HDR.
