Poll: PS4 1080p, X1 900p.. NX 720/768p?

While I'm (sigh...) not against playing games at 720p, they shouldn't be rendered at that frame rate in 2015, period.

We're almost two years into Gen 8, I would certainly hope that the NX isn't sub-1080p, because seriously, aside from brand loyalty (cough, xbox) why would that be ok in 2016?

I was wondering if the NX would just be that, a "720p variant" of the PS4/X1 and allow a lower cost of entry.

Toon shader heavy, exclusive games, Nintendo games would hopefully be 1080p/60 FPS.. better than Wii U in image quality (geometry, effects, LoD, etc).

Also maybe it can do more than 60fps in most games, because seriously, aside from brand loyalty (cough, playstation) why would that be ok in 2016?

Depends on what they want to make on it, but can't they already do 1080p/60fps on Wii U?

These systems are already poor man's PCs, if they can render anything, I'd prefer it be the max resolution of most TVs/monitors nowadays. Even frame rate I can handle. Games like Wolfenstein and Revelations 2 look garbage on next gen systems but for 60 FPS, I'll take it. Worst case I'll get it on my PC since it can outdo my PS4 handily.

Not to the level of graphics on the PS4/X1.

Honestly, i'll be surprised if this isn't stronger than current systems. they have got to finally realize they need some oomph in their systems.

I will be very sad if the NX isn't more powerful than PS4.

NX will be launching at least 3 to 4 years after the PS4 launched.

I could care less about the NX having the capabilities of the PS4 or XBO, I just want them to support it with awesome first party games. I'd be fine with them sticking with the Wii U if they made the games I wanna see for it, like a new Metroid would be a start, instead the first new and only new Zelda game for the Wii U will be its swan song. They could make it as powerful as the PS4 and/or XBO but it might not mean much to me if I doubt Nintendo's commitment to supporting their consoles.

By the time the Nintendo get's this out the door the PS4 will be three years old. If they can't match that level of performance I won't even bother, and neither will the 3rd parties.

Nah it will be the worlds most powerful console at release. This thing was built to compete with the PS4 and X1 though, not the PS5 and X2.

1080p/60fps is a different but related factor to other image quality settings. Yeah it already does that but not with a higher graphical setting.

Rough, hypothetical example:

Battlefront 3 (a non toon shader [Mario, Zelda, SMTxFE]), probably harder to compute game..

PS4 900p

XB1 sub 900p or dynamic res

NX 768p.

Wii U = no Battlefront 3 release because image quality might not be acceptable to EA or too hard/expensive to port for what EA considers acceptable on current consoles (different architecture).

Doubt it. In the worst scenario, the NX will perform similar to the Xbox One.

The only difference might be that Nintendo will use LPDDR3 or LPDDR4 RAM instead of DDR3/4 or GDDR5.

Well if this is indeed going to be their legit gen 9 platform, there goes another gen where they can't get next gen multiplats, resulting in the big releases for PS5 and X2 not coming to Nintendos console yet again. That's one of the main reasons the WiiU died.

Nintendo has designed their Wii and Wii U consoles with eDRAM. I highly doubt it will change with the NX.

8GB of LPDDR3 + whatever amount of eDRAM Nintendo puts on the APU.

The NX will be 1080p 60FPS with everything while the PS4 and X1 go between 1080p, 900p, 60FPS, 30FPS with some games hitting lower FPS

I just want Nintendo to make a console with no gimmicks. Im fine with paying $399 for a system. It doesnt matter whose brand it is.

??? Wii U has games now that play in 1080p @60fps that blow PS3 out the water, not only that, it can Stream to a 480p Gamepad at the same time, like a boss. Wait till you see NX Smash Bros in 2K ;)

Nintendo's games will all be 1080p regardless of 3rd parties, thankfully. Honestly, I don't give a shit if Nintendo gets the multiplats, the majority of AAA games and the business practices just suck now. As long as Nintendo can support the console themselves, maybe with some 3rd party exclusives, I don't care.

Even PS3/360 do 1080p/60fps in a few rare cases. So of course the Wii you "can" do that. But for a typical AAA multiplat, it would be stuck at 720p and 30fps just like PS3/360. Even PS4 isn't exactly nailing all games at 1080p/30fps, let alone 60fps.

It would be shockingly stupid if NX was substantially weaker than PS4/XB1 - but I'm not sure Nintendo is going to move the needle much beyond those consoles.

NX will do 4k... Netflix streaming.

On a more serious note, since quite a few Wii U games push 720p resolution, I would be surprised if the NX did not go beyond that level of detail.

@razik: There is no way Nintendo is building a console that runs current gen games at 1080p/60fps. The are all about being affordable and that would make it more expensive than both PS4 and Xbox One. They don't eat losses on hardware either.

1080p at 60fps is what I am expecting from NX especially coming in this late or early. :P

There's no point nintendo making another console unless it absolutely makes the current big 2 look like pocket calculators in comparison, if it doesnt then they may as well stick with the wii u and save themselves a couple billion in development costs.

Id like to think nintendo know that building a PS4/bone level console would be financial suicide but looking at them of late you have to wonder....

I honestly can't even see it being an HD machine. If it is 720 will be where it sits most likely but with the idea floating around of it being a hand held and console with weak hardware I'm more inclined to think it's going to be just a standard definition. DOn't forget they've mentioned several times they'd like to bring in the more poor parts of the world into gaming and an HD machine isn't going to be affordable to anyone in those countries.

1080p has been the native res for most tvs out since 2005 or earlier. There should be a law against selling hardware that can't do a bare minimum of 1080p, its 2015... we landed on Mars damnit.

I'm really hoping that the NX is more powerful than the PS4. It will be releasing around 3 years after the PS4 so I'd imagine the costs of making a system more powerful than the PS4 should be lower than what the PS4 was costing Sony at launch.

No way NX to be 720p console

The Wii U is a 720p60 console. If the NX is upgraded in any way, 1080p60 shouldn't be hard to achieve.

But we have to remember, the NX is not going to be either a console or a handheld. It's going to be a new brand that crosses multiple device archetypes... so it's power is going to vary depending on the type of device.

The WiiU launched 7/6 years later than the 360, & PS3. It still can't match sony's or MS last generation systems. We see plenty of games running better than the wiiu version. Have you seen how bad Revelations plays on it? It's a disgrace.

They should be able to make an affordable machine that can match or surpass the ps4.

Because nintendo, they prefer to sell dinosaur level tech consoles for maximum profits.
