off topic much?lol i wonder why people hate the ps3 is it because you cant buy it or what?
xion1234
he asked a question. why isnt the ps3 destoying the competition like it did the 2 gens before this one?
answer: too expensive and too late
PS3 is the best system this gen. Anyone who denies that is just a fanboy.IvyCassandrayeah and MGS4 has 8xAA
the only reason why the PS3 is the worst selling this gen is cuz of its price tag at launch, which led it to be hated
not the online service, cuz XBL was the best last gen, and yet PS2 outsold the xbox
not the games either, cuz the DC had better games within the first year of launch, but it didnt stop the PS2. did it?
if the ps3 retailed for 400 at launch, people would have been buying it for blu ray and for games
i hope sony realized where they went wrong, and have their next system launched at 400 at the most

It is more than that though , they could have launched at $400 but the Wiimote/Wii Sports hype would have been enough to top it.I think that was the whole thing. If they would have launched the PS3 for $300, which had been the industry norm, the PS3 would be dominating the industry like the PS2 did. At least that is what I believe.
Sony slipped hard at the wrong time, and the much more friendly priced Wii was there to take over.

I think you're dead on. Sony needs to be pushing to lower costs and having a price drop, and they need to do this yesterday.[QUOTE="Nike_Air"][QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"][QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]It launched at $600. You don't launch a videogame console for $600.SpruceCaboose

They could have tried to sell it at $400. Maybe they would have succeeded and maybe they wouldn't.
The consumers dictate the price of goods which have viable substitutes - not the manufacturers.
Sony forgot that and priced themselves out of the leadership position.
Historically consumers have said that $200 is the the price the majority are willing to pay for a console. Sony has put themselves in a position where it will be difficult for them to reach that mark anytime soon.

PSOne launched in 1995 at $300. The PS2 launched at $300 in 1999. I say they should have launched it at the normal price for the industry, not inflation.

I disagree.
Frankly, I think the hype for the PS3 outmatched the Wii. If I remember correctly, the PS3 was in such high demand at launch, they were selling for 2000+ on Ebay. The reason why this didn't keep up was simply a lack of games. Compared to the 360, it seemed to lack games, and compared to the Wii, it seemed to lack ingenuity. All that, and it was one of the most expensive consoles ever.
The Ps3 was stuck between these two, and it quickly lost all the hype it had gotten pre-launch. We started to see those 2000 dollar sales drop down, even below retail price IIRC.
For almost two years now, Sony has been trying to rebuild the reputation it lost in a few short months.
It takes the soul of three infants to make a PS3. People really dont want to support that. Thus, they lose sales. JakendoNo, buying a 360 condemns 4 kinds with cancer to death. Seriously. Look up Folding@Home.
And thats the problem - the market grew superficial. They believed the hype, and wouldn't look at the Ps3s benefits. It will change decidedly in 2009, but right now its just got negatie buzz surrounding it.

I agree. All the sudden the Playstation brand wasnt the smartest option to the gamer without the deepest pockets. The Playstation has a very loyal fanbase... and that's probably how they got alot of their sales so far - but if the price was more competitive I believe the PS3 would be at least be beating the 360 in terms of sales.

Erm, okay. That was pretty lame.
But even then, people still eat meat, even though it denies meals from starving kids. Remember 15 pounds of vegetables can only produce 1 pound of meat.
I think the PS3 will really start to shine in 2009/2010... I think it's going to be difficult for the 360 to keep up this momentum it has. 2008 was the year for 360 exclusives (ie. Halo 3, Gears 2, Fable 2 etc).
As for Wii, who knows. It's more of a "family" console, so it will probably keep selling well. But I think PS3 will start to dominate 360 next year.

Plus if anything, technology is expected to go down in price, not up. (just look at the average cost of a computer today compared to ten years ago, despite the fact that computers today are countless times more powerful)

$300 (1995) = $431.27 (2008 ) with inflation. For the PS2, If it had a standard HDD and LAN card it would add over $150 at the time (estimated by accessory cost)
I'm not saying that the PS3 is not expensive even by past standards. I am saying that It's not AS expensive as people make it out to be.
I don't think anyone can argue that every console not only has new technology but also more hardware in them now (HDD,LAN,WI-FI,CD,DVD,Blu-ray,Wireless controllers, motion control,HD/HDMI,new processors/GPU/RAM,ect).
example: In 1915 the Model T cost $440. Now it's safe to say that cars don't cost that much now day (not ones you want anyway). $440 sounds really cheap, but that equates $9,544.34 today.
I, along with you, would love for everything to stay the same price and have a console in 2020 to have the same price as today. But I know it wont.
One thing that needs to be remembered.... value is subjective.
I sold my soul to satin paid $600 me then I bought PS3. I love PS3.

It is more than that though , they could have launched at $400 but the Wiimote/Wii Sports hype would have been enough to top it.The Wii is its own ridiculous phenomenom. The 360 could have been the same price as it and we'd probably still be looking at the same picture today (minus the stillborne PS3.)

You sir, are an idiot. I myself would prefer a great console over a much worse, slightly less expensive one - that why I bought a Ps3 over a 360 in the first place.Sony just brought at an unfortuante time and didnt have enough of a wow factor to justify the price. Too bad that the PS3 has been neglected from the publics view as its come out with some really good games now.

Once again, what do you call Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm? If I recall, Motorstorm didn't even come out a few months after the ps3 was out. And only one halfway decent game such as Resistance didn't make the system's launch "full of good games". The Wii and 360 had a much better launch than that.
