Patcher "PS5 to have more TFLOPS than Xbox One X"

PS5 will be more powerful than Xbox One X, Sony locked in TFLOPS race

Analyst talks about the the launch of the PS5, and believes that it will have more TFLOPs than Xbox One X, and therefore be more powerful!

The PlayStation 5 will boast more TFLOPS than Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One X, claims Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Speaking with GamingBolt, Pachter reiterated that PS5 will launch around 2019 when 4K adoption becomes more widespread, and that Sony will be firmly locked in a TFLOPs race with Microsoft with its next-generation home console.

“By the time 4K becomes affordable in 2019, PlayStation will have a 4K device, that will have more TFLOPs than the Xbox One X has, because they seem to be in a TFLOPs race,” said Pachter.

The analyst also said that he thinks the PS4 will stick around for a long while yet, and will continue to be sold even after the launch of the as-yet unannounced PS5, provided the console keeps pulling in the punters. Obviously, Sony has done this with its previous consoles, with PS2 and PS3 in particular continuing to sell even after the launch of their successors.

Pachter has touched on the subject of the PS5 multiple times in the past, and feels strongly that we’ll see a new console out around 2019/2020, which will feature backwards compatibility with the PS4 Pro. Sony has indicated that a PS5 release is still a long way off, although has at least acknowledged that the format holder will launch new hardware at some point down the line.

This was pretty much to be expected anyway that a console releasing 2 to 3 years after X1X would be more powerful.

I just hope the PS5 won't have a gimped CPU causing a severe bottleneck.

Both the PS4 Pro and even the more powerful X1X seem to have bottlenecked CPUs.

I'd be happy if the console was more balanced in terms of power.

It should be. Honestly. If it was weaker than the X1X, then what's the point of a new generation.

Plus, by then, 6+ TFLOPs GPUs should be cheap enough for gaming. EDIT: 4K gaming at reasonable FPS.

It's no secret.. Each of the 2 companies will keep pushing the "most powerful console" bar higher and higher with each new iteration until one either caves, feels it is time to exit the race, or feels as though the graphics and power is high enough and instead it is time to start worrying about frame rate, lag, net code, and things that actually matter...

Systems coning out after a different one should be more powerful. Nintendo is the only one that hasn't really followed that idea.

There ya go cows in a few years you may catch up in graphics. Granted Sony has never caught up in gameplay but judging by what you enjoy all you care about is graphics anyways. Enjoy your QTE games starting to match up to Xbox in a few years but we all know they will never have good gameplay, not like Sony fans enjoy actual gameplay in their games.

This is easily achievable simply of virtue that better tech gets cheaper in relatively quick time.

I think what will be more important when that happens is how much more powerful and for how much, and can Microsoft come right back and leapfrog them afterwards? Will the PS5 need a mid-gen upgrade just to stay ahead?
