Official Best and Worst Games of the Year Thread

Best - Resident Evil 4 - GC or PS2 version. (Both are great, ignore fanboys that act like there is a world of difference)

Worst - wrestlemania 21 (There is probably worse games, but I haven't played them)

Let us assume a game must win on its respective platform to then go on and win GotY.  That leaves Civilization IV, God of War, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Resident Evil 4.  As for the handheld, don't see it winning.  I don't think Gamespot has ever given a handheld that honr.  Now, RE4 has already won the action/adventure genre award, with GoW and NGB also being finalists.  Thats why Civ4 and RE4 are the odds on favorites to win.  Now, in a forum dominated by console users, it may seem like a forgon conclusion that the game you've heard about and would actually have an interest in playing would win.  However, Civilization IV is a very, very solid edition to the Civilization franchise, and is a lot of fun to play-- if you can get past the fact it is turn based.  So don't count it out just because it isn't a game you could or would play.

Thats a good point.

Game of the Year will be RE4.

Clearly one would have to be an idiot to consider God of War or Ninja Gaiden Black after both games lost to RE4 for the Best Action/Adventure Game category.

And Civ 4 does have the same addicting qualities that Gamespot said about World of Warcraft last year.  But it still got a 9.4 AFTER GS had rated RE4 9.6 and quite frankly they are not going to dismiss 25 hours worth of non-stop amazing action over a long addicting game.

Civ 4 grows on you slowly over an extended period of time.  RE4 starts at a "9" on a level from 1 to 10, and then proceeds to climb up continuously non-stop.

This is one of the best action games ever made, period.  Its already the considered the single greatest survival horror game.  A game that gives you that good of an impression simply does not become forgotten.

RE4 is the Game of the Year.

Actually, no. As you might've noticed from the nominees list, only the best version of each game (including multiplatform titles) was nominated for GOTY, which in this case was the GameCube version. That is the version that won GOTY.
