Man I hope this is fake. That doesn't look comfortable at all. No buttons is a deal breaker for me. I want to want your console nintendo, but I feel like you're pushing me away.

Does every controller come bundled with its own "CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" side label?
How would my thumbs know where the buttons were if it's just a flat surface? This is awful
You are that stupid aren't you Nintendo.
If this isn't the handheld, but the home console controller, Nintendo can feck off for good. But I feel for the handheld fans if it is, square and shitty as 3ds is at least it has buttons.
For a company that is so focused on precise controls and optimal gameplay, I really have a problem seeing them go almost entirely touch controls.
If this turns out to be real, I won't be thrilled about the touchscreen decision. Too early to say if it's a dealbreaker, though.
Can someone explain how they plan to make a touch controller work? They have to have something in mind, right?
Don't bring up that haptics nonsense with me, localized haptics tech does not exist.
I think its real, but not necessarily the final design. 1st gen devkit hardware probably.
This seems to be the case here.
Don't want a controller with touch buttons. This whole thing is gonna be a big wreck.

Trust us, this is what you want.

Dare to believe?
That's just shitty vibration, they're talking about taptic haptic feedback.

Everything doesn't exist until someone creates it. Just saying.
If this is real I am disappointed, though I will adopt a wait and see approach first.
To those who are saying that they will sacrifice the power of the console for this controller, why would 3rd parties talk about porting current gen games over to the NX?

Vibration? Not sure what you mean - the coagulating screen indicates you could place buttons in whatever shape or position you desire. Granted, something like that is not going to happen with this device.
And from my limited use of taptic/haptic devices, I cannot fathom a way to make that enjoyable or preferable to traditional button inputs.
I won't condemn it without trying it, but the lack of face buttons really worries. If it ends up being as bad as I think it will be, then at least Nintendo saves me some money.
My issue with touch gaming (the few times I've tried it with emulators) was that it was impossible to press two face buttons at the same time. Has there been a way to get past that
Is Nintendo's goal now to make a worse controller each console? They haven't made a good one since the GameCube.
@NathanDrakeSwag: the wii u gamepad atleast had all the buttons of a normal controller. This on the other hand looks bizarre
Every new Nintendo controller I've seen since the N64 has pretty much evoked the same type of reaction from the entire gaming community. Not only did many of those ideas work, some of them were even adopted in one form or another by the competition.
That being said, I don't think we should let our initial "shock" get the best of us. As an enthusiast of evolving tech, I'm completely open to new things. I want to see this demonstrated. I want to know what it does and all the ideas behind it before I begin to formulate any judgement.

I'm usually down on this type of nonsense, but let's wait and see first. They didn't keep it secret all this time just to fail.
I could see Nintendo thinking they could get away without buttons on the handheld (not that I think it's a good idea at all). But if this is supposed to be the console controller? What?
Are they expecting people to swipe, long press, and do different kinds of tapping to replace classic buttons? That's the only thing I can think of that could possibly work, virtual buttons would be a disaster.
Hmmmm this looks very much like that picture in the patent Nintendo filed a year ago.

That doesn't really tell us anything though because maybe it is at least the NX controller/portable prototype or some random party has a lot time and money on their hands and is pulling our leg. Oh and remember Nintendo has a partnership with that company that can make touchscreens in different shapes.
We should expect something like this but I'm really suspicious of it though. I'm looking forward to the portable version as a replacement to the 3ds but this doesn't even seem comfortable.
I'm gonna hold judgment until Nintendo officially reveals it.
This is clearly why the NDA's surrounding NX development has been so tight, because they know the conclusion that gamers will instantly jump to, and they where hoping to avoid that, and control the message. We don't know what tech Nintendo is working with here, it could end up been great, it could end up be garbage, but we should at least let them reveal it themselves before writing it off completely. I mean for all we know, this could just be the NX handheld, and have nothing to do with the NX home. Everyone is just assuming it's the home controller.
Also, remember, that from everything we've heard 3rd parties, especially in Japan, have been positive, so even if it's is the home controller, it might not be as bad as it seems.
And don't worry, if when it's revealed it is this and it does suck, I'll freely admit it, I just think we should allow Nintendo to actually talk to us about it first.
Hmmm... If this is real (which I'm sceptical), I'd have to try it before passing judgement. But yeah, I share the concerns mentioned above too.
Apparently this is confirmed to be a devkit controller.
I don't know how the final version will differ, but if this is what developers have been working with, then I don't understand the universally positive impressions this thing has been getting.
@charizard1605: I took a minute looking at it, it doesn't look like any of those 4 trees. Take a look at the prominent branches and the tree in the reflection. Even assuming a different angle, it doesn't look like any of those trees.
Fully agree. Touch controls still haven't been made to work on the medium in which they are, for the majority of users, the only option (smartphones and tablets) so that is in itself a deal breaker. I'd have have to get an alternative controller (if available).
Though, purely speaking from appeal to a broader audience, this may end up being a super smart move. Makes the transition from mobile to console super easy, even if it means (IMO) a massive downgrade in how one plays. We'll see...
I mean, it looks nice, but I'm sorry, a touch only controller is a no-no. Definitely not aboard this train.
It looks that it is 100% real. Game Informer heard the NX controller has no face buttons.

This is an ABOMINATION by Nintendo!!How can anyone play games with this...... thing...??lol
It looks the NX it will fail worst than the WiiU......it will fail big time.
If this is really the way they're going then they're good and fucked. Though, I'm holding out hope. That "CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" label gun tag gives me hope this is just a staged leak. I'm sure developers with access to developer kids had confidentiality well covered in their NDA and there'd be clearly no need for that stupid "CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY" sticker.

I give Nintendo credit for making something even worse than the WiiU. That is an impressive feat.
