... land

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2022/220412.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_content=202200412&utm_campaign=release

The Acquisition of the City Owned Land Adjacent
to Nintendo Headquarters

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, “Nintendo” hereafter) today announced that it has been selected as the business operator for effective use of the Kyoto-city owned land (land of former Foundation Support Factory and former Material and Disaster Prevention Center) which was recruited by the city of Kyoto from December 8, 2021. Nintendo will be acquiring and utilizing the land.

1. Overview of the acquiring land
Location
11-2-5 Hokotate-cho, Kamitoba, Minami-ku, Kyoto, Japan
Site area
10,028.55㎡
(former Foundation Support Factory: 3,110.91㎡, former Material and Disaster Prevention Center: 6,917.64㎡)
2. Bidding Price
5,000,000,000 Yen
3. Usage of the land
Facility name
Corporate Headquarters Development Center, Building No. 2 (tentative name)
Objective of the facility
R&D reinforcement
Floor area
Approximately 38,000㎡
Structure and height
12 floor steel framed building, approximately 72m of height
Planned completion date
December 2027

Perspective drawing of “Corporate Headquarters Development Center, Building No. 2” (tentative name)

Along with the R&D investments and capital investments, Nintendo believes acquiring and utilizing this land will carry an important role on reinforcing its R&D.

Looks like they need more space for R&D. Weird, since soothsayer hardwenzen has said that they'll be using the Tegra X1 forever and won't make a new gimmick, and their games are just simple shapes and thus need no investment to develop.

I wonder why it would take Nintendo several years for the new R&D building to be completed (2027) unless there is government red tape involved. By 2027, Nintendo would have released the successor of the Switch.

Perhaps they believe supply chain issues preclude having it done earlier at a reasonable cost.

Let's do our part to make sure this get's more attention than Sony's acquisition of _ [which got more attention than MS's acquisition of _]. Tweet and re-Tweet! TWEET TO VICTORY!

I mean, ummm....this is an outrage! Publisher-acquisitions of land are bad for gamers and bad for the industry! RABbLE RABBLE!

Good to see they are expanding. Their output has been quite low and they really do need to improve on that.

In an odd way this seems like the most Nintendo kind of move ever. Probably would prefer growing their own numbers rather then "purchasing" them. It seems to align with the comments the CEO made concerning Sony's and MS' acquisitions where he said that what matters more is preserving the "Nintendo DNA".

Pretty awesome thing of Nintendo to say, actually. While other companies throw money at studios to aquire them to make games for them, Nintendo only aims to improve Nintendo. Which will probably result in Nintendo staying good and strong while purchased companies fade into obscurity.

I mean.. did MS have any form of plans for Blizzard, other than "they make big games with lots of profit, and now it's ours"? Pretty sure they didn't, and that can result in Blizz sucking even more tremendously in the future.

Not sure what you mean. They did "preserve the DNA" with the Wii U. And they'll probably continue doing so if they have another system failing.

You think they'd start buying western studios if they make another flop? I really, really don't.

anyone live locally to him? it released at end of feb that's what 47 days ago? 1128 hours if you do the math. he's been playing for 311 hours. plus gs posting on top of that probably similar time. maybe we need to send someone round to check in on him, make sure he's eating, seen daylight, that sort of thing. worry he's sat crusted to his gaming chair eyes pinned open like something out of clockwork orange

Not gonna lie, it was a nice change of pace from MS and Sony promising they're not done buying. I very much prefer this approach as a consumer rather than all of the industry consolidating into 4-5 companies.

If memory serves right Nintendo didn't change fundamentally between the WiiU days and now. I mean other than the massive success, they've been operating more or less the same as far as I can tell.

Yea, but they sell their systems on gimmicks (began during the Wii days). Gimmicks are easy to flop, so you can't be certain that their newer systems are a guaranteed success, with or without Merio/Zelda. I doubt that Switch 2 will fail because its gonna be another portable system, and unless the other two create their own, better portable systems, Nintendo has no competition.

Their "gimmicks" started way before Wii and yeah these can be hit or miss. It's partially why I say they haven't changed fundamentally. I think Nintendo has been adapting their way of doing things lately, the Switch can be seen as both a very Nintendo thing and a thing you wouldn't normally see from them depending on how you look at it. I feel like they've found their sweet spot, good for them.

The screenshot from 2019 shows what the Kyoto-owned property that is next to Nintendo's corporate headquarters is like. It is north of the cube-like building which is Nintendo's corporate headquarters.

Well I don't know the purpose behind every gimmicks but as far as gimmicks goes there's been tons! Most notably the DS's dual screens and touch screen, the GBA e-reader, the Virtual Boy's headset, etc.

Other than the dual screen, were the others really supposed to be system sellers? Doesn't feel like they relied on those to move systems like they relied on waggle to sell Wiis.

@hardwenzen: They relied on analog stick and third grip gimmick to sell N64. Triggers and x and y button to sell SNES. Dual Analog, rumble, and extra trigger to sell GameCube.

Graphics is only gimmick Nintendo has never used to sell a system. And that waffle is now a staple to sell VR.

Like Mario 64 being 3D and incredible for its time🤡🤡🤡

And you know what comes with visuals? Frame rate. Two things Nintendo haven't seen in generations.

@lebanese_boy:

What would be the point of them buying additional companies though?

Nintendo already outsells almost everyone else by a huge margin, so if they have to choose between buying a company vs expanding their inhouse development staffing, it's a no brainer imo.

Nintendo buys Square-Enix.... and then has to shuffle its largely flophouse portfolio?

Vs building another development space to house a 3rd MonolithSoft team who can create more jrpg epics?

Nintendo bets on Nintendo.

It's OK, after 15 years Nintendo finally caught up with Xbox360 graphics so you don't have to pretend you don't like shiny graphics and slick framerates anymore ;)

Cought to x360 visuals? Halo 4 and Reach look better than anything on the Switch and so does Gears 3. With the Switch 2, i promise you, they will catch up to the ps360 visuals.

@gifford38: Heck yeah, Nintendo been destroying everyone. Meanwhile Sony just copying everyone. So boring.

so what did they copy? gamepass? gamepass copied steam.

so during the ps4 and ps5 who did they copy? I will give you ps3 motion control. other than that they been doing there own thing lately.

psvr2 copied who? psnow was out before gamepass

so really what have they been coping?

How did Gamepass copy Steam?🤔

They did copy Gamepass default feature, which is the ability to play games natively. PSNow was a streaming service only but Gamepass forced Sony's hand to allow for games to be downloaded. Gamepass is primarily a download and play natively service.

gamepass didn't force sony to do it. it was requested by the gamers. just happen xbox started it first. streaming was fine during 1080p days. then 4k came along well 2160p and streaming couldn't stream in 2160p.

Im saying steam because it was the first for games I think to download games.

lol is gamepass vador and forced choke psnow and forced them to be download?
