Art is subjective, some get it, some don't. From my perspective, Nintendo is best at taking full advantage of their own hardware. As for the art direction, Skyward Sword looks pretty bad in some areas....like some of the ugliest environments I've seen from Zelda in years.
I can agree with that. Most of their series have a great artistic direction, especially Zelda and Metroid.
to be honest, Wind Waker holds up very well today. It still looks damn great. Yes, not good, great.

Uhhh nope! Not in my opinion anyways. Nintendo does have some great art and from time to time they've had things that can be considered among the best, but to call them king in this category? Nah.

Pffft technical console graphics.
they've definitely made some beautiful games and their visuals so often compliment the gameplay (obviously the most important part). my favorite from nintendo is wind waker. besides being gorgeous, the bold use of lines ties together the wind theme thats so central to everything.

What do you mean technical...... Crysis 2 on the PC with DX11 and hi-res textures. That's technical.
I like the architecture and the ornateness of just about every structure in the Uncharted games.

yeah, Uncharted has nice art style even if the lemmings and hermits doesn't want to admit it. Halo series has good art style too but people tend to go for the ones that assimilate cartoon animations like Valkyria Chronicles, Wind Waker and Muramasa (which is like cheating since the entire game was hand drawn) instead of the better ones like Journey.
But this thread is haywire and I don't know what is going on. The tittle talks about Artwork but in actual post TC talks about something else.
Maybe this guy never played WindWaker... or even Skyward SwordImplying Alice Madness Returns doesn't have a more creative artstyle than anything Nintendo has ever made.

I'm not really fond of RPGs. But, we may buy Xenoblade Chronicles (for our eldest kid). My kid is very much into that genre. It looked quite good especially for a Wii game.

I disagree with he topic, sure, but AMR is nothing special and Nintendo easily has a few titles that stand up to (and in some cases all out obliterate) that game.
And if we're talking creativity, as you said, rather than pure artistic quality, Nintendo is leagues ahead of that game. Nintendo has signature styIes that are very unique and instantly recognizable per IP. A random pic of AMR could be mistaken for anything.
Really, I dont consider Nintendo to be top dog in this category at all, but you should at least come with some real competition lol.
