Next Xbox Already In Development, Microsoft Insider Confirms

So, to summarize:

• The Xbox One X is not the final Xbox system, and Microsoft has no intention of leaving the market
• It already is under active development, with a full codename and everything
• It will not launch in the next 2 years
• It may be a half step improvement over the Xbox One X (making it a full step improvement over the existing Xbox One)
• Microsoft is committed to no generations going forward
• Phil Spencer has 'heard the feedback' regarding MS's horrendous first party. Whether or not he intends to do something about it is unclear, but there is at least that.

I'm upgrading my PC in two years.

As long as it doesn't come out within the next two years I'll be happy.

And let me guess, it will be more than twice as powerful as the PS5, which itself will be more than twice as powerful as the X1X, which itself is more than twice as powerful as the PS4 Pro, which itself is more than twice as powerful as the PS4, which itself is marginally more powerful than the XB1, which is a turd.

surely they're always in R&D phase, what's to say they're setting any particular direction in stone yet, my guess is they'll stick with the mid-gen upgrade as long as they can until Sony unveils the PS5 proper and attempt to go toe-to-toe with them when that happens

It's pretty much a given that say when PS5 releases, they start thinking about and R&D'ing the next playstation.

Well, of course it's already in development. That's to be expected of any company. Are the hardware developers supposed to sit on their asses for a few years?

How does PC have generations?

Never been a better time to be a PC/Nintendo owner instead of this crazy crap. I sure don't wanna upgrade consoles every few years and buy these games not knowing if the next system will be backwards compatible or what. Too bad Steam Machines blew it so badly because that would have been a great future of consoles packed with thousands of games to play instead of this games reset every new console.

And all of them are 100x more powerful then that wet fart you call PSVR :P

To be honest they really want to be releasing it as soon as the AMD/globalfoundaries 7nm APUs become available. The next gen is gonna stick around for a while if they can get in early then they will take the market for quite a number of years.

We are getting extremely close to the limits of silicon and the cost in researching and making this stuff is skyrocketing.

I already knew MS was in developing a new next-gen console so this does not surprise me and Phil kinda mention this before Scorpio reveal awhile back. No point in me speculating on specs or any innovation at this time.

When I used to buy consoles for myself, having a system that didn't need to be upgraded for 5-10 years was a blessing and the only real benefit of owning a console over a PC in console v PC arguments. Exclusives were never a big reason as I found most of them were actually overhyped shite.

Now I always keep my PC up to date and sometimes it costs quite a lot, like when I need a new video card for instance, but that is justified since my computer does a lot more than just playing games and I am safe in the knowledge that it has the latest hardware. Paying £500 for a new console with mid range PC specs every 2-3 years just makes me more glad that I stopped buying them for myself after the PS3/360.

Im also glad that my daughter likes Nintendo.

Pretty much this. Sony however made the mistake with PS3 and let MS go first when they launch Xbox 360 and I doubt Sony isn't gonna bother to wait for MS announcing there next-gen console this time around. I hope both of them at least just announce there next-gen consoles like around 2020.

Some of these responses are funny. Any decent company in any industry is always working on the new product's replacement immediately upon launch, if not before. As an example I work for an automaker, and pretty much the minute Car Y releases, the next generation of Car Y is in development. I'm sure that Apple is probably already working on the iPhone 9, and Nintendo is probably working on whatever will replace the Switch.

My take is that this whole mid gen upgrade stuff is a terrible idea. Make a console with a cpu that has enough omph to be future proof and build it with modularity in mind as to allow other components to be upgraded individually. I mean shit theyr doing everything they can to be pc's may as well go all in on that concept.

The type of hardware that's also new in the consoles... Thing is that MS is getting closer to PC instead of further away, while you make it sound like it's the opposite.

Well, they have to wait until 7nm process is viable which is probably 2019 - 2020. Doubt they wait longer than that, especially since I'm 99% confident Sony will have something ready to launch in 2019.
