I think its beautiful. This is a guesstimate.

1. The next Xbox will launch as soon as the fall of 2010. This would give the 360 a 5 year generation lifecycle, one year more then the origional XBOX. However, MS has stated that unlike Xbox, the 360 will remain on the market for as long as the market decides to support it. AKA, the 360 dies when we, the market, says so.

2. Playstation consoles launch every 6 years. This would put the PS4 launching in at least fall 2012. It might be sooner but Sony historically hasnt released a console in less then 6 years and it could hurt the PS3s momentum. PS2 is also expected to die off in 2010 or 2011 at the absolute latest.

Seeing 1 and 2, the Next Xbox could have ****around 1-2 (2?!?!?!?) years of a head start ***** against the PS4. The 360 and PS3 will also be around by then as well, albiet it with less momentum. Yes, PS3 as well as 360. Since the next Xbox will launch first, it will likely halt any PS3 momentum as the PS3 wont be the most powerful console anymore and that rep will be stolen away. The next XBox will simply make the PS3 look antequated, so if PS3 picks up any steam over the coming years, the next gen will likely halt that.

Basically by 2012, BOTH 360 and PS3 will be slowing in sales, and the next Xbox will have yet again have developers more used to developing for it and MS will leverage their install base to secure exclusives.

Basically, if MS launches first next gen, Sony is practically done in the console market. If Nintendo conquers the casuals next gen like they are now (and if launch b4 sony and have a cheaper price), Sony doesnt even have a prayer.

Hmmm i'm pretty sure Sony wouldn't let themselves fall short on this one. They released late in the game, and it has affected them up until this point. Microsoft may well get out early, but if I was Sony and MS did, I would use the time I had to really tweak the console. If you can't beat them to the market, beat them in usability.

360 had both those advantages this gen.

It would be smart, but only if they could release their console at a very low price.

Depends on what price point the new xbox will be aiming for. If it is competitive with the ps3 when it comes out, then sony is screwed.

Lulz, it won't launch in 2010, it's set for 2012. And Sony won't just sit back and let MS have another years headstart.

Your assumption is that these companies don't learn any lessons as time goes on, and that isn't realistic. Sony would not let MS get such a head start next time. It's not as though these consoles can be developed in complete secrecy. The other companies will know and adapt their scheduling accordingly

I don't think we are at the half way point of this gen yet, so your timing makes little sense. That's just my opinion of course. We know how much that means in SW.

Thats the beauty of it. They will be unapposed if they launch first.

Release at $499 and keep it like that until the PS4 is released. Then drop the price to counter any PS4 price drop.

1-2 years will completely be in MS favor production cost wise.

Ha yeah i reckon your prediction is going to be accurate i do think the end is nigh for another console giant and i believe it will be Sony sadly, they just seem a bit stupid to be honest with market predictions. Although they could surprise us all by releasing the PS4 before or just after the next 360 but i doubt it they have already stated a 10 year life cycle and your prediction of 6 years for the next console is i reckon dot on. We should time capsule your prediction. None the less its all down to money is MS making a substantial profit on the 360 are Sony on the PS3? I should imagine the WIi is making a huge profit for NIN?

eliable hardware is practically guaranteed. MS dont want that again. And if the next gen looks like Crysis on highest settings AT THE LEAST, then id say thats a significant leap.

The new Xbox will not come in 2010. Microsoft will milk the Xbox 360 for as long as they can especially in these economic times. It's hard to get people to upgrade.

I honestly cant believe u guys are talking about the next systems. It hardly feels like anything worthwhile was developed this gen. Sure there are a few great titles, but im still waiting for more. i guess like i really dont want this gen to end anytime soon seeing as to how it began not too long ago. Also the hardware of this gen's systems is not bad at all. Some of them havn't even reached their full potential, yet we're talking about the next consoles.

MS will cancel 360 support the instant the new Xbox launches. Of course they won't say it's cancelled, they will just stop making games for it forcing X360 owners to either get a PS3 or get the new Xbox. They did that last generation and it worked for them pretty well. I see them shafting 360 owners the same way they did Xbox owners. They pretty much follow this same plan with all their products. As far as Sony goes, maybe they will wait. Waiting for a few years as long as PS3 is doing well would not hurt them. Later after MS has shown their hand Sony could release a machine a few years later in the middle of the new Xbox cycle with double the power. MS will have to rely heavily on people wanting to upgrade if they release a new machine in 2010 something that I think is a big gamble since a lot of people haven't even made the jump into this generation yet.

A lot of you people aren't taking one thing into consideration.... MONEY!!!! Developers have run into a high development costs in making today's games. Many companies went under because they couldnt keep up and I'm sure there are just as many that are struggling to stay afloat.

Releasing a new Xbox as early as next year would be a slap in the face to developers who have to reallocate resources, money, people, and time to make games for a new machine. Not to mention there is no demand for a new console and considering how young the PS3 and Wii is (barely touching 2 1/2 years old), Microsoft would probably rather want to make money and stay the course a bit longer then plunge billions into another console just so they can beat the other guys at the door with no assurance they'll succeed.

Don't expect a new console from Microsoft until 2011 at the earliest. This gen is going to last 1-2 years longer then usual IMO.

You're right, plus who would release a new console in the middle of a recession? Only optimists are looking at us getting out within a year, but look at 2 realistically. Releasing a console as soon as 2010 would but it in a bloated market, where people are worried more about their next paycheque than what console to buy.

I seriously doubt the PS4 will be released in fall 2010, that would only make the PS3 4 years old.

Talk about cutting life and momentum short. Sony is practically screwed, they cant release early or else they kill off PS3 momentum.

karasill

You claim me wrong based on your own speculation. What makes you think 360 will launch in late 2010. It will more than likely be 2011/2012 at the earliest

You my friend just ended this thread..... Hats off to you

Why thank you good sir. I just couldn't believe why he could deny my claim based solely on his own speculation, lol didn't even make sense

[QUOTE="-M117-"]eliable hardware is practically guaranteed. MS dont want that again. And if the next gen looks like Crysis on highest settings AT THE LEAST, then id say thats a significant leap.

You posit the idea, that Sony will not learn from past mistakes and will be beaten to the market again. Yet you state that Microsoft will learn from creating sh*tty hardware.

Get off microsofts jock, they wont be sharing none of their money to you .

I wont be upgrading until all support is abandoned for the current gen. I've dumped far too much money into games this gen and if they upgrade too soon I wont be buying until major, major price cuts.carljohnson3456
I am kinda with you on this, and I also have tons of games I still own but have not gotten to and games I want but have not gotten yet, so I can easily wait and catch up after the gen ends.

[QUOTE="black_tempest"]It would be smart, but only if they could release their console at a very low price.-M117-

Thats the beauty of it. They will be unapposed if they launch first.

Release at $499 and keep it like that until the PS4 is released. Then drop the price to counter any PS4 price drop.

1-2 years will completely be in MS favor production cost wise.

But nobody would buy a 499$ console.

The new Xbox will not come in 2010. Microsoft will milk the Xbox 360 for as long as they can especially in these economic times. It's hard to get people to upgrade.

Deihmos

Yep and Microsoft said this themeselves, I don't see a future console until 2011 or 2012....Jesus I'm getting old.....

The PS3 sold at $600. Not mindblowingly well, but it sold.

Is this your opinion, TC, or do you have a link? The likelihood of this happening is pretty low. MS will try to go a few more years before releasing their next console.

yep thats what im thinkin, 5 years is too short anyway especially when your doing pretty good

I agree 5 years is too short. But you never know with Microsoft. You have to look at it thru Microsofts eyes. Xbox is not about making money, it's not about games it's about protecting their monopoly position on the PC OS. Their golden egg Windows. You can see what where Playstation is going. Down the road PS poses a potential threat and MS will put everything they have into protecting that. That is why you see them directly attacking Sony every time they can.

You're right, MS definitely wants to release a $600 dollar console in the middle of the worst economic times since the Great Depression. Halo lemmings are the worst.
