Most stale franchise not named Call of duty or sports game?

Its AC or Halo for sure. I think AC has the edge

I don't think "stale" is the appropriate term, but Final Fantasy has certainly stopped being worthwhile for a decade now.

With any luck XV will bomb so spectacularly that Square is forced to either rethink the series or put it to pasture.

Easily Assassin's Creed, the others have done something to pique my interest recently.

AC is also sort of stale, but no where near the level of FF. I found Syndicate to be quite enjoyable.

Far Cry should definitely also be on that list, instead of Halo, Zelda, and Mario.

Each one not only has a completely different story, it also has completely different gameplay. Hell, Final Fantasy 14 is an MMO. A complete contrast to 13 and 15.

The only thing that got bad was Square's obsession with making "sequels" to Final Fantasy 13.

The Ubisoft open world game is the most stale. Since Watch Dogs and Far Cry are basically Assassins Creed with different names.

yes. they are up to 15. thats not even including the constant stream of spinoffs and rereleases. SE milked that series dry years ago.

But each games are different, different gameplay/locales/characters/story. Not related at all. Just series uses common name Final Fantasy. Example FF 10,12,13 are entirely different :(

That makes no sense since each numbered title is very different than the previous. Games in the Final Fantasty series share far less in common with their sequels and predecessors than basically any other franchise.

The re-releases can be ignored. Those are for fans of the series and for people who have never played the older games. Them re-releasing old games does not stagnate the franchise in any way.

The "spinoffs" are few and far between and usually have completely different gameplay than the main series. The Final Fantasy Tactics series was fantastic and was basically an entirely different franchise.

Your arguments look at the series as if you're just looking at a Wikipedia table of all of the game and saying "there are too many". It completely ignores reality.

No you couldn't. AC and BF don't have different gameplay. AC especially gets criticized for being almost the same every time.

@Wasdie: slapping the FF name on anything remotely resembling a jrpg just to boost sales makes the brand stale. For Christ's sake there was a planned FF13 trilogy before the first game was even out.

What about the elephant in the room, the Grand Theft Auto series. They went from 2D to 3D and have managed to produce monster hit after another.....but many people are sick of GTA. I'm not one of them. I would say Assasins Creed as well, but they get points for Black Flag....I dont like the series the the pirate stuff in BF is very well done.

God of War. Each one is fun enough on their own, but gosh darn if they aren't almost exactly the same.

Assassin's Creed...by far. Not only did they make a game each year, but they also did little to improve the formula or even fix the bugs.

Came in here to say assassin's Creed, but a lot of you beat me to it. I've played every main game up to 4 and can't be bothered to care anymore. The Ezio trilogy was good, and IV is actually a really great pirate game, but eh. It's clear that this was only intended to be a short series, because it shows in the lack of really good new ideas or story development (not that the story has ever been great to begin with).

I can see it happening now. Won't be surprised to see some Fantasy COD as well.

aren't all the dynasty warriors and its spin offs pratically the same game just with a different coat of paint? I might go with that or the lego games.

Halo, lots of fun but so stale now it's causing me to have doubts about getting an Xbox one, even though I am trading in all of my handheld consoles and games because my eyes hurt from the small screen and I have enough games and consoles to buy an Xbox 1.

Forza: Same as Halo.

COD: Er... make a good WWII game again please! this Modern and future warfare stunt is old right about now.

Final fantasy: Never had enough interest in it

Zelda: unique ideas, but nothing that entranced me since Wind Waker

Overall, I'd have to say assassins creed but I felt like giving my thoughts on this matter.

FF certainly as hell isn't stale from a "freshness" perspective. From an "interest" perspective you'd have more of an argument though.

For me the only series that ever grew any kind of staleness to me are:

1. The NSMB games (other Mario games like the Galaxy series or 3D Land/World are fine though)
2. The Tales of series (I haven't played any game in this series since Vesperia though so maybe it changed more afterwards?)
