Microsoft raising Xbox Series S|X game prices to $70

@BenjaminBanklin: Maybe you missed it….Sony RAISED prices to 70 bucks for their games, RAISED console prices while producing CHEAPER components. Xbox has matched Sony, not raised above what Sony are charging…..and for everyday that MS puts their 1st party games on GP and DOESN’T raise prices, that’s another day where you get to bang your head against the wall.

the value of gamepass is pretty insane. With that said, I do expect them to raise prices on GP too, but it won't be too much. There will be a lot more cost/benefit calculation going on in peoples minds at $20 vs $15. If you pay around $250 an year, that can buy you 3 games, and 1 on sale. Do people actually play more than 3 games an year? Most casuals don't.

Maybe you missed it. MSFT is the second richest tech company in the world with massive profits. They got no business raising shit. Maybe if they didn't waste their money on trying to buy up third party pubs. Now what're you gonna say if MS needs to raise the price of their consoles too? The trend has been set, why wouldn't they raise the price on games? I won't pay it, but luckily gamepass is an option on the Xbox.

What I find the most interesting is that they're going to charge $70 for Series S games.

It is not surprising as history has shown people are willing to defend very unpopular or even unacceptable views or behavior.

I fully expect Game Pass to go up in price eventually as well. It’s just what these subscription services do. As more and more first party games get added it just makes sense to increase the price. I think it’s currently the best value in gaming and there’s room in its pricing to where I’ll still subscribe to it.

The difference between Sony's $70 games and MS's shovelware is that Sony has talented studios that are constantly winning GOTY while MS has trouble coming out with ANYTHING. Think about it, if MS didn't acquire Bethesda, and Starfield was still a multiplat like every other Bethesda game released in i-dont-know-how-long, what did MS have or will have in the near future? Had a racing game, and will have another racing game. If this is not pathetic to you, i don't know what is.

They forgot how to develop video games, and we need to recognize that.

Hope Nintendo doesn’t get any ideas… they could charge $99.99 and it would still sell. Hell, some games come with an amiibo and people buy those day one too so basically the price is already up there 😂

Why else would they do it? It's not like they can't make games for 60 bucks anymore. It's just a company who gets lots of cash seeing an opportuinty to get even more cash. Purely greed. Same with Microsoft who don't need to sell games for 70 either. Same with Nintendo, who are inevitably going to follow, even though their games costs a fraction of what Sony's does to develop.

No surprise. Inflation is everywhere.

Some SNES and N64 titles cost 70 or even 80 USD, and that was in the 1990s. Adjust for inflation and games nowadays seem awfully cheap.

So you're saying they can't sell games for 60 anymore and only raised prices because they had to? And you know this because of the basic economics course you took?

Even if true, I'd rather see lower production costs, so they can keep the lower price. I really don't need my videogame characters to be voiced by Hollywood actors, for example.

Logic dictates the cost of delivering games to the end users has dropped considerably over the years due to digital sales so I don't really buy the need for these increases in games prices. I mean we don't even get a fancy new box with instruction booklets anymore. ;o

Okay, enough of that bore fest, back to SW persona. lol :P

At least they're for Xbox Series games not for PS4 games. Playstation gamers paying for "high settings". PC gamers just click a button in settings. :-S

But still at no extra cost on Gamepass for these games.

I had the GTA Trilogy box in my hands this weekend and my thoughts were:

Previous GTA boxed copies came with posters and maps, cool gimmicks that every gamer loved to get their hands on.

We've gone backwards, yet the marketing machine from AAA publishers keeps telling us we're moving forwards.

@SecretPolice: Yeah that’s what I was going to mention as well. While games may not have increased in price the fact that digital sales have increased so much should really be considered. Wasn’t it mentioned not long ago that digital sales now make up for more then half of game sales overall?

Lots of people are going to find themselves stuck with Gamepass. People are building their libraries with it and the moment you can't pay the fee you lose your entire library. Then you'll have to rebuy games you want to play again. Be careful y'all. Cause when that happens, MS will make regular subscription price increases and you'll pretty much have to keep paying it.

I'm sure this has been the plan with MS all along. They set up all that BS PR claiming GP was the best thing in gaming when it's really going to be another financial trap before it's all over with. They want to make sure they get the biggest key titles in the industry first before making huge increases though. If they could get GTA and Fortnite to themselves, OH MAN. 30 bucks a month guaranteed!

If anything they should be bringing prices down. They dont have to pay shelf space to a middle man any more as games are sold digitally, each copy is an infinitely reproducable file that costs nothing extra to manufacture, little to nothing to distribure and digital will become the norm on all consoles in the future.

Tack on DLC adding to overall cost of games too. They can literally make more on DLC and microtransactions than they do the actual game sales. Theyre charging you more so that they can pay more people to churn out more regurgitated crap, even more often than they do now.

ps5 games shouldn't be $70 then, it should be 12 tflops / 9 tflops = $70 / x. PS5 games should be $50. If you want to count the overclock, i'll give you $60 at best.

And btw, many of us xbox gamers actually buy the games before they run out on gamepass.

PS5 games run as well as Series X titles. But never as poorly as Series S games. At the end of the day though, you choose what you want to pay. Wait for a sale if you have to.
