I didn't see a thread so lock of its a duplicate however

Gamespot Hololens article

Hololens... as a self confessed Cow... i'm stupidly impressed. I genuinely hope this is not all hot air. I have however also just read this

Wired Magazine hands on article

Which has convinced me even more. phrases like "my legs were shaking it looked so real" are very promising to me

PC world... thats where MS belongs. get your mitts out of game development and do more stuff like this!

Nothing by MS can ever by deemed a gamechanger on System Wars, ever. Haven't you learned that by now?

Looks cool, yet MS is always very optimistic with its new ideas .... Kinect was announced years ago and got a 2nd iteration and yet, it's no where as it was advertised to be ... the tech. is there but it needs more time to make an impact.

Definitely looks promising... I'd like to see how it translates to gaming (if it does to any great extent).

I remember the kinect launch where we had a VR kid with real emotions reacting to our words. Lets wait until we see the real kit before getting excited.

Actually, a normal HDM seems to be more useful for stationary gaming than this.

This holo thing seems useful for mobile augmented reality applications, but as a peripheral device for a stationary game console, I cannot imagine the kind of game that takes place in your living room. What would that be? Some kind of Jumanji?

This is what Illumiroom transcended into. Genius. Here I thought they scrapped Illumiroom and all along they made it better. Bravo today Microsoft.

@blue_hazy_basic: I recommend the wired article. its a hands on preview, and very convincing. By all account everything seen in that trailer is a working demo on the device.

This is interesting you brought it up with illuminroom. The tech is based on Kinect surface reconstruction. I wonder if it used the same advanced techniques or just do something less accurate with surface reconstructions.

It may all be the same but the big key is they tossed the projector in favor of technology that works and we want. I like!!!!

Revolutionary new product if executed just changed technology interaction the way we know it.

And why does this exist outside of the sticky?

I am reading reports that people are demoing at this event and are blown away by it. I am already picking out in my living room were I want my weather app, my Porn tab, calender, etc.

People were deflated after PSX failed to bring anything. We will be talking about Windows 10 and all the magic coming out of this event all year!

Sheds another green tear.............

This is going to force google to update their version. Its only going to drive more innovation.

I always thought google tech was great but this is really next level.

Hopefully the glasses can be less bulky than the prototype.

For specially desined games to take advantage of it, like Minecraft seems to be getting hinted at? Sure.

For normal games? No.

People need to stop thinking hardware gimmicks will change gaming. Same for VR headsets.

AR, which is basically what this is, will be a huge multi-billion dollar industry. Google, with Google Glass already out there, and recently buying the company Magic Leap, are going to be pushing this tech hard. So it appears it's Microsoft and Google taking charge right now with the AR movement. I'm sure other giant corps will soon follow.

I agree, but Google Glass is a *mobile* device, and current augmented reality games like Ingress are also mostly *mobile* games. This does not surprise me, because I believe that augmented reality in general makes most sense in mobile devices, while it makes not much sense in stationary devices.

You know, AR games do exists, like Invizimals for the psp

Imagine some Pokemon style game, or whatever they can think off, where instead of trying to immerse into the game, it merges with the real world. It would have the potential to be megaton worthy. After all, voice commands are integrated.

It won't be. I think the idea will be cool but if people wouldn't take to Kinect or other motion type stuff I can't see this taking of. Nothing for most people will beat a controller. Now with that said I'm interested.

I know people expect me to hate on it because it is MS, but honestly, I don't see the advantage of this since you still need to wear some head display. VR is just the better option.

This and Google glass reminds me of Dennou coil I guess we closer than we thought to that future but still there is two major obstacles not being able to touch what we see and the more important one is the human eye limitations and head aches ( I got a really bad head ache after trying Google glass for about 10 minutes ).

I can already imagine the uses in gaming. If linked to xbox or tv, it could serve as 3d glasses. Imagine someone on TV throwing something at you or dance central generating dancers beside you, or in dragon age where magic spells filled your world with lightning or fire. Or some as simple as generating those holograms in mass effect 3 in your living room and letting you walk around it.

I can see it now though....it's a MS product so...viruses, LOL.

Then some teens will get a virus from a holo porn site, trip on LSD then the virus will put random holograms places and drive the terms to madness.
