Game Informer has a MGS blowout for their March edition and talked about Ground Zeroes. They had an exclusive play of the game and they finished the main mission along with extra modes in about 4 hours.

We had four hours of exclusive hands-on time with Ground Zeroes, which we used to play through the main mission and experiment with extra modes.

UPDATE: Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short," Game Informer writes in the cover story (only available in the magazine, not online). "We completed it in just less than two hours

At first thought they meant they only had 4 hours with the game but they state they got through the main mission in that time. Kind of disappointing considering the price point for GZ

Source

GI source

Let's not forget that this is just the intro to MGS V (the phantom pain) and it costs $30 retail for PS360 and $20 digital but $40 PS4 and X1 retail and $30 digital. Not only that but Kojima has said if Ground Zeroes doesn't do well that they will delay MGS V.

Kojima has defended the length of the game but made things slightly worse by detailing what was actually in the game. The main mission, 5 side missions and a time trial like mode

And what is the price point of Ground Zero? $4.99? Or free with pre-order of MGS5?

EDIT: nevermind, holy shit, $20 digital and $30 physical on Xbox 360 and PS3, $30/$40 digital/physical on PS4 and X1... and being an MGS game that probably means 1 hour of gameplay 3 hours of cutscenes

I'll probably wait for it to drop below £20 before I pick it up. You can already preorder it for like £25

Because consoles, ladies and gentlemen. On consoles, games dont need to be good anymore. Fanboys will hype them anyway.

MGS1 is pretty short. It's one of the few games that I have almost the entirety stuck in my head. And MGS1 was a full game game. This is only supposed to be a "prequel" or whatever....

Yea I remember thinking it was a super long game but in reality it's fairly short, I played through it again about a year or two go that's the only reason I know that it's short :P

Does that include both parts?

Ground zeroes and the Phantom pain are two parts to the same game, right? So are they just talking about ground zeroes or what?

It only includes Ground Zeroes, the intro to the phantom pain. The same demo we've been seeing over and over again of snake infiltrating that base

Cutscenes included, I assume?

It's not that bad considering the pricepoint. MGS games never were that lengthy to begin with. You can go through them in less than 5 hours.

It's with the whole main mission and extra modes so yeah I'd assume it's cutscenes and all. The fact that it's an intro to a bigger game and an introduction to get people used to the mechanics means the price is bullshit. Pay up to $40 for this and then full price for the full game after that. That's like an upper maximum of $100 just for the full experience

You could also just wait until the actual game launches and probably find this for less than $10 at that time.

@W1NGMAN-: True, but not on first playthrough, which I'd reckon is 12-16 hours.

So going by that (admittedly very unscientific) measure, GZ is less than 1/4 of the length of MGS1 (remember the journos did side stuff too!).

Still that is twice-ish as long as the tanker sequence in MGS2. Bit expensive for what it is I think.

Yeah, it's lame, but this shit happens. Same with GT: Prologue.

Something you just gotta deal with.

Seems fair. It's only $30. And the open world nature of the levels seem like they lead themselves to multiple replays.

Metal Gear Solid 1 took me around 8-10 hours to beat. Fantastic game despite only playing it in 07.

This is why I am waiting for the INEVITABLE MGS5 Complete Edition for $50-60.

Bloody ripoff to get this. 4 hours?! I can beat it in a one night!!! I was happy with how MGS4 closed the franchise so I am watching this one closely

@seanmcloughlin: Is there something else in that article that suggests they completed the entire main mission? To me it read like they had 4 hours in which to play the game and in that 4 hours they played some of the main mission and the extra modes.

This to me sounds like they did the whole main mission, otherwise they'd say they got through SOME of the main mission

That's why I was worried about the weird prices between all the different versions. It's weird enough to have a 10$ difference between digital and retail, but to have an extra $10 premium between last gen and current gen is absurd.

Not surprising, Kojima has to cater to the xbox fanbase's attention span after all.
