Max Payne 3.

The CPU requirement varies hugely. The FX8150 barely beats an i5.

i wouldnt say so at all.     the i5 3570k beats the FX 8350 in every single task that uses 4 cores or less.       When a program uses more than 4 cores the FX 8350 draws dead even to an i5 3570k which makes the i5 3570k the better choice because you get the best of both worlds.

Even with a draw dead even from the 8350, crysis 3 shows that the i5 3570k does not dip below 30 frames in the benchmark posted at toms hardware, whereas the 8350 has dips in the 20's.      Which shows the i5 3570k is the best bang for buck processor.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,3451-8.html    . In these cpu benchmarks for crysis 3, even the i5 3550 beat the FX 8350.

If you try to be dumb and tell me that crysis 3 does not support multicore, i beg to differ and go look at the hyperthreading results.      Crysis 3 supports MANY MANY CORES.

To be on topic, these requirements for metro are about the same as crysis 3. Its just that crytek didnt come out and tell you SLI was needed for resolutions above 1080p, whereas Metro Guys are enlighting us to the full specturum.

People saying unoptimized have no clue what they talking about.

Most probably due to unoptimized coding. Its graphics doesn't seem that good compared to Crysis.

I built my PC 2 years ago for £600, already at "above" minimum for the newest games. Gawt damn! I know it wasn't the best when I built it though, but it was competent enough and I could max out most games at the time. £600 for 2 good years.

Well I could run Metro 2033 at everything max except for using SMAA instead of 4xmsaa.

And that was with an OCed GTX 570.

They said Last Light was about as demanding as the first so I should be ok.

You certainly would get into the 20s if you play at 1080p or higher with a OC'd 570 even, and the game had AAA, not SMAA(unless the SMAA injector worked).

I used SMMA injector which looked great for the game.

Also I usually got over 30fps aside from some certain scenes like when you first encounter the light orb thing.

My GTX 570 was oced to 980mhz on the core clock.

One good way to get a lot more fps is to disable the depth of field setting which is a big hitter and doesn't really add much to the visuals.

"For Metro: Last Light, developer 4A Games has optimized the 4A Engine, ensuring it runs far faster than the version seen in 2033, even when there's more action and more technology on-screen in Last Light." As long as I run the game with the same setting as I did Metro 2033 along with better lighting I will be happy

It's good to see games that make gpus bleed. My 7950@1150mhz  laughs at most games.  This should give it nice healthy work out.

Well the DOF makes things look more blurry which is why I have it off.

DOF and Tesselation were not needed in Metro and once disabled you can run it great.

True, but I saw a difference with Tessellation as some things appeared more rounded than blocky:

I don't see why they would do that considering they're releasing it on consoles, so it obviously can run in DX9. Why Crytek did that with Crysis 3 was odd.

Hahahahaha. Fantastic.

On topic: They've said that it will have similar performance to 2033 on similar hardware, considering that it's more advanced, but also more optimized. So.. I'll be happy with that. I'll probably wait to get the game until after I build a new system, but if I can't stand the wait, and decide to get it and play it on my laptop, I'll be able to handle medium at 720p.

Crytek did that with the PC version of Crysis 3 because dropping DX9/10 support allowed for actual full use of DX11, with far better optimization. That's why even the absolute bare minimum settings, as bad as it can possibly look, is still a solid leap over the console versions. And the existence of a current gen console versions doesn't mean anything about DirectX. Consoles don't use DirectX, they use custom APIs, which aren't limited by DX versions, so they can get squeeze all the power out of the hardware they have. DirectX is used for PCs, to provide developers with a unified structure to use for developing games that have to be run on thousands of different possible hardware combinations. Consoles have static hardware, so they don't need something like that.

I don't see why they would do that considering they're releasing it on consoles, so it obviously can run in DX9. Why Crytek did that with Crysis 3 was odd.

mitu123

Well said, it's why DX11 should be more common now.

Indeed. And, even though the consoles aren't necessarily limited by DX versions, it's surely a factor when multiplat developers are deciding whether or not to drop support for older APIs in the PC versions. I have a feeling that once the next gen consoles are here and active, we'll see support for DX9 disappear completely, DX10 will start to get rare, and lots of higher end games will be moving to DX11-only. And that'll be great. The next 2-4 years are going to see some seriously awesome advances in graphics.

Hmm. I have a gtx 690 but my monitor is 2560x1440 so there may be a problem. This game better be amazing..........GoldenElementXL

Pretty sure the "optimum" specs are a 690 or Titan. And they do mention 1440p/1600p + a bunch of AA as part of the "optimum" settings. I'd guess that worst case scenario, you gotta go with a little less AA. And how much AA do you really need at 1440p? :P

Not much but between crysis 3 and bioshock infinite dipping below 60fps with AA turned down I am getting worried. Don't get me wrong the games look stunning! I just know how crazy 2033 was to run. I have to turn that game down to 1920x1080. I would hate to play that game on consoles though.

Yeah, I'm on a laptop for now, and I played 2033 at settings that probably looked pretty close to the console versions, except for textures. My GPU is old and weak, but it is a 1gb card, so I usually don't have issues with max textures, at least. I think I ran 2033 at max textures, and mostly medium everything else, no AA (although I added a little bit with a mild SweetFX setting), and 720p. And that got me 30-40 fps average. Still a great looking game though. Among the best graphics I've seen my little laptop put out.

Just Cause 2 had no dx 9 support and that came out 3 years ago.

They 'recommend' a 660ti or 580.

I should be right.
