And lastly, you meet Saren Arterius, the arch-nemesis of Mass Effect. He is a Spectre who quickly betrays your would-be mentor by capping him from behind mob forbidden relationship for 30 hours before killing the master, but Mass Effect turns tradition on its head, offing Shepard's best hope of becoming a Spectre in the first hour.

Raising the bar on their expectations of Mass Effect is what IGN meant, I believe. I don't believe anyone expected space zombies in ME.

These zombies act as a good way to start the game, before you're fully introduced to the Geth as the main enemy; however, at the same time, these zombies are also fighting under the same allegiance as your previously mentioned foe.

I really emjoyed MGS3, but MGS1 and 2 had really stupid stories....
They wouldn't be that bad, but they try to be so serious...
Luckily Hideo is awesome, so he puts in the occasional inside joke to remind players that it's just for the lulz.
I don't think they are actually going to be called space zombies, they will be, but it will have a back story to it etc, the IGN dude was being light on the subject.
Mass Effect looks absolutely amazing. I don't play many RPG's, but I am sold on this game completely. The only problem is, is that its going to take up a lot of my time! :D

Although I am exited for the game and will be picking up an Xbox 360 for it this preview tells us nothing new and just builds up the hype by having the writer state that its awsome.
Space zombies with a back story are great as it will make them much more intresting and exiting than your regular Dungeons and Dragons zombie.
By the way the cat lady from Icewind Dale II was a much better prophet of doom than Manuel.
