I find it really funny that developers didn't ever complain about the space that a DVD9 provides and now that Sony says "for high def games blu-ray is needed" or some other complete lie everyone believes it.

Just remember kids, Crysis is on DVD9 and that looks miles better than anything a current console can produce!

It's more storage for the game packaging but that's it. With that said, it only proves Digital Distribution is the way of the future because companies will save money by scrapping the packaging and just putting it on a server for download.

Very true. But I think blu ray can be the future though. Imagine PC gaming using blu ray, the possibilities. I mean right now it seems like the PS3 is holding blu ray back due to it's bottlenecking. So I agree blu ray isn't really needed for gaming just yet, but next gen, you betcha.

I honestly dont care. I like the fact that I'll probably never have to "switch to disc 2" when playing a PS3 game. I also like the fact that my game discs have special coating and can take a beating and still keep on working. I also like the fact that I pay the same exact amount of money for these discs as you do for your outdated format ones and I get these benefits that you don't.

Lemmings can hate all they want but there's really no use. If Blu-ray didn't matter, they wouldn't bring it up so much. It just seems like they're envious that they have to pay the same exact amount of money for an outdated format.

Have fun with your scratched up DVD9's. Keep whining and trying to put down Blu-ray, but the chances are no matter what you say nobody with a Playstation is going to care.

Just to clarify, the Blu-Ray technology is owned by a consortium of companies, numbering about 25 if I'm not mistaken ( I'm not taking the time to look it up right now, I'm sorry) so it's definitely not almost owned by anyone.

So why make the point that blu-ray isn't needed for gaming by pointing to Crysis, a PC game that has you install data on your HDD in order to play it? When you put data on the HDD to run the game its no longer just using the DVD9. And since you can't just do that on a 360, the point is a flase one. Thank you, and good day sir.

Just to clarify Crysis took up 6.87GB when installed, Crysis Warhead took up 5.56GB.

Both games can sit on a DVD in their fully installed form, that's not to say running it from a disk would be the best of ideas though.

For the Wii, Nintendo extended the technology to use a full size 12-cm, 4.7/8.54 GB DVD-based disc (RVL-006), enabling it to have the benefits of the Nintendo GameCube Game Disc, while having the standard capacity of a double-layer DVD-ROM. Although the Wii can utilize double-layer discs, all titles were single-layer up until the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. With the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo has admitted that some Wii systems may have trouble reading dual-layer discs due to a dirty laser lens. Nintendo is repairing systems with dual-layer problems

Crysis installed is around 7gb, Warhead is around the same.

Far Cry 2 is a whole 3.17gb according to my folder, which doesn't make much sense.

So DVD9, sure it all do fine, for the life of the 360.

he is referring to PS3, as it is the console that uses Blu ray and also has to install.

The New Xbox Experience allows you to install games to your hard drive. Didn't you know this? Not sure where "pwned" was aimed at, but from where I sit you've got some self-pwnage to deal with.

LOL the TC is so clueless. It's compressed onto the DVD9, you still have to install the game which is like 14 gigs.

Blu-Ray disks can hold up to 400GB now. So go ahead and say Blu-Ray isn't needed, but damn it can hold a lot of data.

You better check your facts. Crysis is actually very light on disk space, both games only take up about 6-7 gigs.

He means if you wanted to include both in a package you they could fit into 1 bluray disc (but not DVD9).
