Just got a PS4 Pro. I'm really disappointed

Really disappointed that no one told me how awesome it was going to be!

Seriously, I have a 1080p screen, and the improvements for some games is really really nice. A lot of games look at the minimum much cleaner, but games like Battlefield 1 almost like as good as pc games. Almost being relative obviously, but for the price I paid it was totally worth it.

Has anyone else been positively surprised by the Pro? Am I still missing out by not having a 4K screen?

Haven't tried mine out on 1080p tv as the only one I have is mounted in bedroom ceiling, but on 4K the image quality upgrade is great and with hdr even better, mostly it's in line to what I expected from it

I love my pro, 1tb harddrive, super quite, games have way less jaggies that have been patched and bf1 runs really well on it...

I'm gutted that my AV Receiver, while it handles 4k, cannot output HDR :( . I intend on upgrading to a 4K screen at some point next year but looks like I will have to upgrade my AV box at the same time.

Do you also use it in 1080?

But yes I agree, studios should be free to use that power as they wish, and 1080 currently seems more logical to chase.

C'mon man, you reaching. I have the Pro and a 4Ktv and yes it's an upgrade to the base PS4 and the X1 but I've seen Battlefield running on a gaming rig, it's not that clear and crisp.

Also I would say yes you are missing out for not having a 4Ktv. Although it doesn't do 4K for all games but a game like Battlefield looks much better with a 4Ktv. I think the resolution on a 4K for that game is 1440p or 1600p but either way, it's an improvement that is noticeable on a 4Ktv.

I picked up a pro on launch day only because I had yet to join this generation, but when I heard rumors of a faster PS4 I decided to wait and glad I did. While I don't know how it looks and performs on a 1080 set, what I can tell you is that it looks awesome on my Hisense 4K set, and I would definitely recommend upgrading. 4K tv's are not even expensive anymore and I got a 50" and nice sony soundbar for only $700. In the middle of playing Doom and this game is slick both performance and visuals, can only wonder what a patched Pro version would look like.

It's the best console ever created by far. There's a reason it is demolishing Xbone with Wii U evacuating rather quickly.

No need to buy a 4K TV, the difference is small. Just like the difference from PS4 to Pro is small.

The difference is HUGE! Worth every penny. As long as you stick you face an inch from the screen that is. Quick, everyone run to the store and spend $1k on the upgrade.

@iandizion713: The difference is not huge, but certainly appreciable. Just look at the performance difference in BF1 compared to the base PS4 not even including the visual upgrades.

@nfamouslegend: The performance difference is made up. The game is programmed that way. Its a magic trick. Its used to fool one into thinking there is a big difference when really the regular PS4 could be optimized to perfection.

If i gave you a choice between 1080p 18 fps and 1080p 60fps, your first reaction shouldnt be wow look how much improved the Pro is. It should be, wtf did you do to the regular version, fix this shat please.

Got my ps4 pro hooked to a 43in 4k battlefield 1,nba2k17,cod infinte warfare looks great and yes its a very clean image....

PS4 Pro is so good that it doesn't even run BF1 at a proper 60fps. What an amazing cinematic experience!

meh didn't get one. my PS4 still plays any game the pro does and it'll be the worst looking console in less then a year and still doesn't match most PCs.

I dont have to have one to know its a graphical gimmick with slight increase above the regular PS4. Let me guess, you kept your original PS4 so you could compare?

That's great to hear and I'm glad that fans like the enhancements, but I'm personally not too interested in the extra graphical capabilities. I haven't purchased a PS4 yet but if I do decide to get one, I'd rather get the slim model.

@iandizion713: how is improved graphics a "gimmick"? Are you referring to the fact that it usually doesn't upgrade to native 4K? Because that doesn't make the upgrades it does offer not real. When I boot up my PC, and change the graphical settings from default medium to high in a game, that's a "gimmick" now? I swear, people on here call anything they don't like or want a "gimmick" :-P

BTW, I haven't played my PRO in 1080p....it's been all on my 4K TV baby!

It's gonna be far more appealing to me once we get a number of 1080p60fps options... Games like FFXV need it.

I like my new Pro, but I think it's louder than my base ps4 during heavy gameplay. And that disappoints me because I loved how quiet the ps4 base was.

But BF1 runs much better

I have a high end gaming pc and a ps4 pro and I agree he's reaching.

Graphics are a gimmick because its just an illusion put into your head. Its hardly means anything and hardly effects anything. Its your imagination that matters.

Take a tree for instance, if you look at trees in all your games youll notice not only do they all look different, but none look like a real tree. Yet that doesnt negate their purpose.

Therefore we can come to one conclusion, graphics are gimmicks.

@ArchoNils2: ironically, i have. When i built my pc 3.5 years ago it cost me 3.5k. It's still an amazing machine that still wipes the floor with even the scorpio next year.

Sadly my comment about 'relative' was lost on most people, but allow me to put it differently. I spent £100 on my ps4 pro after trade in. It doesn't produce half of what my pc can... But it cost just 1/35 :)

I dunno. My friend bought the Xbox One Slim. I'll admit I'm a little jealous. But really, unless you got the scratch, I don't really see the need, IMO.

GTX 780 Ti has 5 TERAFLOPS of power, Scorpio is projected to have 6 TERAFLOPS of power.

You need to upgrade your rig ... 1080 is where the graphics truly shine.

When I first got mine I was really disappointed by the pro in 1080p mode. I guess I was just to used to PC gaming at max settings at 1080p. Once I picked up my 4K HDR display it made it worth the purchase.

The only reason i'd get one is if, say, tomorrow Sony were to announce a patch for all upcoming titles having three options.

Option 1- higher graphics (doesn't have to be maxed visuals but certainly higher than what's present on the PS4) and 60fps in native 1080p (no downscaling from 1440p etc).

Option 2- 4k or whatever resolution its upscaled from. Same fps as the PS4. If played on a 1080p screen, the image will be downscaled from 1440p-4k.

Option 3- Maxed out visuals (if possible), same fps as the standard ps4, native 1080p and some quality AA (again, if the system can handle it)

Why is it so hard for Sony to understand that this is the kind of options that are needed for a mid cycle console to succeed... As is, the Pro is a mess, a mess that isn't worth owning nor even considering.
