nintendo stopped competing a while ago. but not for lack of trying.

you sound like sony saying the vita isnt competeing with the 3ds

In a sense they are not. PS Vita is Sony's attempt to bring traditional console gaming into handhelds, and it's not a very popular direction. It's targeted at regular console gamers who may want handhelds.

Nintendo on the other hand is simply trying to keep 3DS a handheld. It's targeted at traditional handheld gamers. And so it's sucking the DS and PSP crowd dry.

Iwata is an idiot!

When you actually look at the history of gaming’s business, you find that Iwata’s statement of ‘Nintendo is not good at competition’ to be laughed out of town. Nintendo is sooo bad at competition that it always dominates the handheld market. Nintendo is soooo bad at competition that it kicked Sony and Microsoft’s asses (and took their names) during the 7th Generation.

You don't seem to understand what he's saying. He's saying that they can't just create something similar to their competitors and compete. They're not good at that. The Wii and the DS dominated their respective markets in part because it was new and innovative technology. They always have the weaker system but they make up for it by fresh ideas. That is what he meant.

It's still a console, a video game console. Just like the PS3 and 360. Functions as a vijya game console! The only difference between their competition is that they can profit out of their consoles.

The only way for Nintendo to not compete is to remove profit. Sony and Microsoft do not make much, if any, money from their game consoles. They must use other parts of their giant corporation to ‘bail out’ the non-profitable consoles. Nintendo has no other big businesses than gaming. Nintendo must make a profit.

That isn't going to bring any death threats, you need to try harder than just posting your opinion which people can live with.

Sheep now hate Sony more then they hate Sega, and that's saying something.

idk where you're getting these ideas, but, in general, sheep are on very good terms with Sega nowadays, and many sheep also have ps3s

but either way, weak flame bait is weak; try harder next time

By this shitty logic, you would have to explain why the N64 and Gamecube failed too. WiiU is failing because its not a very desirable product. Its not failing because of teh casuals and the weak hardware explicitly.

@ActicEdge:

Maybe you should explain MORE of why its not a very desirable product. Lets see your own logic.

Iwata believes GC failed because its games were too complex, which explains Nintendo's casual focus last gen.

The core complexity of Nintendo games really didn't change much this gen. They all played pretty mechanically similar. Galaxy isn't much different from Sunshine. Zelda got more complex over windwaker. Metroid was similar. Games like Sin and Punishment and Punchout!! retained difficulty from predecessors and were tough as nails. Mario Kart was pretty similar to past iterations. They developed more open experiences like the Wii ___ series and stuff but its some myth that their catalogue got significantly easier. At least, to anyone who actually played any of their first party games like myself instead of just bitched about them.

@TheKingIAm: I hold to it that the beginning of the end for Nintendo was when they didn't use CDs for the N64. Every since then, they have always been at least a step or two behind their competition.

Pretty sure N64 was much more powerful than the PS1, though the PS1 made up for it, by having that extra space and cheap media compared to the clunky expensive cartridge the N64 used.

Please Nintendo, people don't see Wii U as something new and unique. People see it as a weak console that can't compete with the juggernauts of the industry that also doesn't have any games worth talking about. If you're going to ignore the competition then they're screwed basically.

Yes. Their franchises they haven't been able to let go since the 80s. What was the newest IP they made that anyone even cares about? Pikmin from early gamecube days? Maybe Scribblenauts. Either way, they could do better if they tried.

Nintendo can't grow up. Mock people who call them immature because of the whole "kiddie scene" or say that they are really the only ones with unique games, but you don't see Nintendo creating new IPs at the rate the competition does. The ones they do fly completely under the radar. Their failure to embrace the fact that it's a connected world where friends want to easily be able to play with AND communicate with and against each other and others from across the world and hardware that's evolved to meet both developer demands and TV specs is also now biting them in the ass. They don't have a tempting enough gimmick this time around to entice nongamers to guy their system.

Touchpads are cool, but why game with a touchpad that isn't multitouch or with a 3 hour battery life and can only do games when you can just buy a smartphone or tablet.

Yes, their games were complex, but so was Skyward Sword, Other M, Xenoblade, and The Last Story. Problem with Nintendo is they thought the GC was more popular and decided to use the GC approach with the Wii U. Also, they thought casuals will buy the Wii U just because of the name and familiarity.

Problem is, that obviously casuals were confused and are turned off with the Price and see no value with the gamepad. Another problem is that Nintendo also tried to cater to the hardcore and of course the majority of those gamers believe it's overprice and under powered. In a way, Nintendo set themselves up losing this gen with pure arrogance and lack thinking. IMO, they should have stick with the market they created with the Wii.
