I think so. First there's hacking. Hacking gives Watch_Dogs the edge over GTA V simply because you have so many different options in combat and in car chases. I never feel like it gets old simply because you can approach the same situation in so many different ways. Second, Watch_Dogs has much better items to use in both stealth or combat approaches. In stealth, you can use blackout to turn off electricity in the area, or use the jammer to prevent people/enemies from using their communications equipment. ctOS scan gives you the positions of the enemy in the area. Btw, they seemed to have taken a page out of The Last of Us's book in that you can make these items out of scrap. In combat, you can use IED (like C4), proximity IEDs, frags, and focus boost which they seemed to have taken from Max Payne/GTA. All of these things give you so many different options and they're really a blast to use. Third. the missions in Watch_Dogs never really get redundant or stale. Each scenario comes with a twist. Like in one mission and you actually hack these machines to help fend off the bad guys. And lastly, I enjoyed the weapons in Watch_Dogs much more than GTA. They really do give you a variety to use and the gun handling feels great.

So all together I definitely think Watch_Dogs is the more creative game. GTA pretty much seemed the same game with some additions but the gameplay options are relatively the same.

Sounds like you're trying to justify your purchase. Sorry to disappoint you, but WD is easily the worst game to come out in quite an awhile.

I don't think either are particularly creative... Both actually get really repetitive.

That wouldn't be hard since most of GTA5's missions involve driving to X and shooting people.

Watch Dogs' movement system is the sole reason it's better than GTA 5. Holy shit RS, the most acclaimed gaming production company yet they can't craft a decent movement system. **** GTA and its hold A to run and tap A to sprint, don't make such insignificant shit so tedious to utilize.

Problem with Watchdogs is that a hacker nerd is a big wuss. Not being able to punch someone gets old. Still a great game though.

The one thing I really despise in GTA 5 is the irrational lack of freedom during many missions. All GTA games have this problem with strict mission scripts, but GTA 5 had it at its worst. I'm enjoying Watch Dogs a lot more than GTA 5, but GTA 4 was more enjoyable than Watch Dogs.

I wouldn't say all GTAs have this. If you go back and do missions in SA, VC or even III you'll realize that there's a much more sense of freedom even during missions. Hell, you could go to the other side of the map just for shits during a mission and then complete it at your own will. GTA IV also had this, but in a few missions.

Stopped reading at the first sentence.... the hacking is a friggin novelty at best... one you can nearly entirely avoid.

its production values are awful compared to GTA. and I mean that in every sense except graphics... its attention to detail is horrible.

Yeah the hacking is so great in Watchdogs, I love the scripted way to destroy pursuers... I love that there are no police boats, I love the realism with hacking networks which is just a pipe game... I love hacking people to steal all the money and have nothing to spend it on, I love that my fella is supposed to be a vigilante so it's completely fine to murder people to get to your targets which for some reason you have to beat down to teach them some sort of lesson.

This game is poorly put together... but there is one redeeming feature...

Watchdog's to me is just a game with unfulfilled potential that might get good sequel. It is like a boring hybrid of sr3 and sleeping dogs a with quirky hacking mini-game, good poker, and cool chess puzzles. Waiting on pc release on GTA5 to play, but even GTA4 seems like a more complete and rounded package. Watchdog's is still kinda fun though but it's starting to get tedious; and fixer contracts and convoys suck. I did like gang hide outs, kinda makes me want to replay Farcry 3.

I have only a couple hours in Watch Dogs. But as for GTA V, I did not find that very creative. If you played San Andreas ten years ago, then likely you will find GTA V less creative than the game it is attempting to update. Watch Dogs does have a clever concept with the hacking to manipulate the environment. But so far I am getting the impression it is just a gimmick and is not all that useful, and becomes repetitive. But maybe something will happen later in the game to change my mind. Maybe. . . The city definitely is not detailed as any GTA game. Not that is necessarily a bad thing, being that Rockstar and other developers tend to fail giving us enough interesting things to do in their big cities.

The locations in GTA games are very detailed. From the streets of Liberty City to the rural countryside of Blaine County, they feel like living, breathing places. They feel real.

However, that wonderful detail is the only thing that gives GTA the upper-hand. I often find that there are not nearly enough interesting or worthwhile things to do in GTA games, so I get bored rather quickly.

Other Open-world games such as Assassin's Creed or Sleeping Dogs or FarCry 3, they all have so much more to do in their worlds than GTA does. What are you supposed to do in the passtime between missions in GTA? Shoot random people? Speed around the map in a car? Shoot random people? Go hang out with a friend and play some poorly designed, mostly non-interactive activity? Shoot random people? It's just boring...

There is just so much more to do in other open-world games. I'm not saying that GTA isn't fun, i'm just saying that it is only good in small doses. In contrast, I could spend hours at a time in other open-world games, just completing all the little random tasks.

And yes... I am enjoying Watch_Dogs quite a bit. I think people like to hate on it so much simply because they are Grand Theft Auto fanboys with their heads up Rockstars ass.

GTAV has side quests... although I do agree they could have put more challenges in the game like police, ambulance and fire missions, would have taken them almost no effort to put in, strange that was missing.

The most weird aspect was no heists outside of story, I really don't know why they did that again I'm sure it would have been minimal effort compared to the other stuff they did. I mean they spent ages on the stupid submarine thing that gets boring really fast.

Watch Dogs is a far deeper and better game than GTA 5 by a long shot, it's probably my favorite open world game this gen so far besides Infamous Second Son. The hacking and the stealth elements add more to the game play elements than GTA 5 ever could, plus I like how they used Chicago as the setting, it's a far more interesting city besides the usual Southern California and monotonous urbanity of New York City, they actually redesigned the city in the game piece by piece of real life Chicago, though obviously not the whole city (and they have hills in the background in Watch Dogs, real life Chicago is all flat).

More about the city, it feels alive in Watch Dogs as opposed to GTA 5 which just seemed kind of empty IMO. I appreciate the more serious and mature story line as well, much more character depth. I actually care about the main characters. Only downside so far is the driving is a bit stiff and there are a couple of bugs but nothing serious that I came across. The game also has multiplayer but I have not yet played that part so cannot comment. But so far Watch Dogs is my GOTY contender along with Infamous Second Son.

Shitpost, but WD has better gameplay ideas, for sure. I didn't fire any gunshots until about 15hrs into the game. And the fact I can infiltrate a whole HQ by sitting in my van across the street without shooting the place up is nice.
