I have not yet entered this gen due to financial reasons. But now i have the money to make my purchase. but i am not sure if i am getting into this gen too late at least for the 360. my question is does the 360 still have alot of fuel in the tank or is it going to struggle in the near future?

I'd say wait until around the GTAIV area to buy a 360 because maybe MS will bring out a price drop.
Look, fact is the Xbox 360 is a great system and Xbox Live is a great service. I've only recieved Red Rings once in my two/three years of owning the 360, and I just sent it off to Microsoft. Got it back in less than a month.
The Xbox 360 has great games, if you buy a 360, get this:
*Elite or Premium console. I reccomend Elite for more HDD space.
*Play and Charge kit, the Elite may come with this, I dunno.
*Xbox Live. Sign up for Silver membership when you buy the 360, this gives you 1 month free. Then go out and buy a 12+1 month card, that gives you 13 + 1 free month of XBL for $50. Not bad.
*Buy GTAIV Regular Version. Its gonna be great.
*Buy one more game if possible so you don't get bored of GTA, I'm thinking Call of Duty 4.
*Get Gamefly or ignore option above and get Gamefly. 360 has a massive library of games, some that are amazing but rentals/you won't play too much after the first time through, heres a list of some games that are great:
-Crackdown (Download the free content. Keys to the City = (almost) Best Mode Ever)
-Bioshock
-Gears of War
-Devil May Cry 4
-The Orange Box
-Oblivion, Forza 2, PGR4, Burnout Paradise, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, The Darkness, Hitman: BM, etc.
*For this year, you have games like Too Human, Halo Wars(RTS), Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Banjo 3, and some other announced games that will be announced at E3 and X08 this year. Games like Halo Chonicles (Peter Jackson) will be revealed.
*And the XBLArcade. It has new and old games. Games like the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage II and games like Alien Hominid and Geometry Wars.
