The wii u is about on par with the last gen consoles and the switch is using mobile tech that is only 1/8 the power of the already weak X1. So, is the switch barely an upgrade to the wii u similar to the GCN to wii?

How do you figure this? And the power relative to the Wii U is what defines the gap, no?
Did I say that?
Microsoft is currently building a console with the "highest quality pixels" a human eye has ever seen. Nintendo is building a console that has the poorest quality pixels a human eye will see in 2017.
@augustevans:um, I quoted you, yes - and the second question is asking why that comparison to X1 has anything to do with the generational leap of Wii U to Switch
I'm clearly speaking about power that's why

Anyone with a decent PC will have seen better gra....um I mean pixels.
@augustevans: and that doesn't answer my question. Your thread is "Wii U to Switch generational leap size" and you are talking about (incorrect) numbers pertaining to X1 instead of Wii U vs Switch. When mobile, on paper, the Switch appears to be matched with a Wii U in performance, and when docked the Switch appears to be over double the Wii U's theoretical performance. The bandwidth of the X1 has nothing to do with whether the Wii U to Switch is a big generational leap. The answer appears to be 1x-2x+ leap over Wii U, depending on the power mode it's in

On pc they're high quality but not the highest quality pixels we've ever seen.

I see, sounds like storm cloud powered secret sauce DX 12 pixels.
Switch is most powerful and innovative hybrid gaming console mankind has ever known. Im willing to bet we could include the universe too.

That's actually rather awful. The system is only on par with the Wii u and only slightly more when docked. Developers probably won't even bother taking advantage of the "docked" power

LMFAO you hit the nail on the head. A brand new system released in 2017 should crush one released in 2013 period.
Its probably as much as a jump from the GC to the Wii. But in mobile mode its more like a travel to the previous gen.
That's good for a handheld though

Yes but its also a home console and is being marketed as the successor of the WiiU. We can't pretend thats not its primary function.

True it's really quite pathetic and pointless really. There probably won't be a single game that couldn't be done on the Wiiu.
Let's break it down to a numbers game.
Wii - 12 Gflops
Wii U - 350
Switch - 400?
Xbox - 20 gflops
Xbox 360 - 240 gflops
Xbox One - 1300 gflops
Scorpio - 6000 gflops
PS2 - 9.5 gflops
PS3 - 176 (230 with Cell) gflops
PS4 - 1840 gflops
PS4 Pro - 4200 gflops
But yeah to answer your question it's the smallest jump between generations, and in some ways a downgrade.

Nintendo just won't learn will they?
it would be if it was a console but it is a handheld/console hybrid, even more so than the wii u, it is also relatively weaker than the wii u but it is fully fledged handheld console hybrid this time.
the switch is something new and I could have great success, the handheld market is pretty much nintendo's turf as well, the vita is dead and phone gaming is not really the same is it (swipe...swipe..).
It will all depend on the price, a switch could be nice but If you're a core gamer, the switch won't be enough for games at home. Nintendo should have made a full fledged handheld or console in my opinion and not a hybrid.
Well, maybe they'll learn their lesson this time, the wii's success is still looming over their business decisions and they don't seem to get that the wii was a one trick pony. They should have used their wii money and made a fully fledged console somewhere in 2011, they would be be dominating the market right now.
@Guy_Brohski: I initially thought this, but that depends on the Switch. Either way it's not a discussion Nintendo wants to be having at this stage. After failing for years now you'd think they would learn. Evolution not revolution.
@Pedro: no it's not, it's over 100% increase in flops if the rumored specs are correct
I am using the numbers that nfamouslegend posted and was responding to that post. Outside of that, I know based on the same rumored specs its slower when undocked.
@lundy86_4: Ok so is Nintendo officially out of the console race now? Can't have it both ways. Either this is a console...or it's not, and they've officially withdrawn from the console race. Which is it? Just so system wars know and it gets lumped in with the 3DS and Vita in further discussions and misses the big table.
The switch is a next gen gameboy. Ninty is done on the console market
^ ^ This. Seeing how bad the WiiU flopped I can't really blame them.

You've claimed 1/8th the power of the Xbox One with absolutely no basis for doing so. Based on the leaked specs, it's absolutely less powerful than the ps4 and Xbox One, but it's in the same ballpark, where the Wii U was not. Based on leaked specs -- which aren't confirmed to be *actual* specs -- the Switch is more the ps2 in the PS/GC/OG Xbox generation: significantly less powered, but not so much so that it makes it obsolete on arrival.

You seem to care a lot. Sorry, but i'm not the one who decides :(

Its a hybrid console. The most powerful and innovative at that.

There website says very clearly that its their new HOME gaming system.
Their website can say whatever, it's still not a home console in the traditional sense.
@lundy86_4: cop out answer. You yourself stated it wasn't a console but a hybrid/handheld. So I'm asking you to clarify your opinion.

There is nothing I'd rather do less than waste my time talking to a corporate slave.

Okay. It's a console/handheld hybrid. I don't really care what category it falls under.
I'm not entirely sure where you want to go with this, but you keep on truckin'.
Well, we'll find out when we know the specs, won't we?
Regardless, why treat it as Wii U->Switch, when it is more accurately 3DS->Switch (which also incidentally makes it the largest generation gap in history bar none)?
@DocSanchez: I would usually laugh and counter with saying how silly for someone to call another a corporate slave when they pay Sony money to use a service they already pay their ISP for. But it appears you have recently cut the cord, so i leave you with a congrats.
