Poll Is PS4 more like the PS1, PS2, or PS3? (59 votes)
I'm gonna go with PS1 because when I think of PS1 I think of all the great RPGs I enjoyed. I really think the PS4 will have great Japan support this gen. What about you, SW?

Like the PS2 because it will end up having the most games.
The PS1 had to battle its way through.
The PS3 had an awful start that lasted for years.
But the PS4 just like the PS2 it's riding a wave of pure hype to success with all the 3rd party's naturally flocking to it.
It has Blu-ray, an HDD, online integration... it's more like a PS3 IMO.
Yup

The PS2 was renowned for it's extensive exclusive library. Due to now dominant it was, everyone was making games only for the console.
Nowadays, nobody's making games for the ps4 only, unless Sony ponies up the development and marketing money. Hell, even then, assuming DDO and SF5 had Sony's help in some way, they're still coming to PC.

This. The days of the third party exclusive are dead. If its exclusive to a platform then its being funded in some way by the makers of said platform. Nintendo have Bayonetta, Sony have Naughty God and MS have... Rare?
PS1 and PS2 were alike. Mauled the competition in terms of sales, least powerful, enormous library of exclusives and only 2 controller ports when everybody else had 4. Also released way before the competition.
PS3 and PS4 are alike. No games for the first year, most powerful(arguable for PS3), most games are multiplatform and one simply feel like a continuation of the other. PSX and PS2 philisophies bett on large libraries of exclusives more than anything else.

Yep.
@clyde46: Scalebound? I figured the Bayonetta 2 comparison is more in line. Also, Bloodborne for the ps4, since ND is a first party dev
But yeah, the only non sony payed ps4 exclusive is Disgaea 5. lol.
In contrast, the 3DS does have exclusives like this due to its huge popularity in Japan. That's how the ps2 used to be for the Japanese market, and a few Western studios.
Now, all ps4 japanese games are on the ps3 and/or the psVITA. Even Disagea 5's exclusivity was deemed a mistake.

Meh... it won't have anywhere near the ammount of exclusive games the ps2 had.
It's pretty much exactly like the PS3 only with early success (who knows if the X1 could become the PS3 of next gen? still early days) ...
Both are turds.
PS2, because PS2 was fucking awesome, and it seems like PS4 will be equally fucking awesome as well.

Nah. Its all multiplat stuff now. The only reason to buy a PS4 is for the Sony exclusives and multiplats if you don't have a PC. Also, its sad to note that its only Sony that are bank rolling exclusives for its machine. Hell I can say the same for all the consoles. Oh how I miss gen 6.

You really like Persona, don't you? Enough to turn you into a full on cow.

You're forgetting Sony's first party- a lot of it is hit and miss- more miss than hit, really- but the hits are amazing.
I will admit that the PS4 won't be another PS2, but the question was which of the existing PlayStation consoles it will be most like. I personally am neutral at best about PS1, so that was out of the running, and the PS4 seems to be more PS2 than PS3.

Eh, not just that. I have been saying all last year that 2015 is the PS4's year, when it becomes awesome- Persona 5 is one game, and the biggest one, I admit, but there is also Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, No Man's Sky, and Final Fantasy XV, which has me warming up to this console more now.
Admittedly Persona's showing is the biggest factor, I won't deny that- I just want to establish it's not the only factor.

charizard is totally welcomed to the cow front
@charizard1605: "Sony's first party" Aren't they bank rolled by Sony anyway?
I'm confused, lol. What do you mean?

Off topic, but has someone who's been extremely skeptical about NMS, i'd like to ask you what you think the game is about and some of it's features. I ask only in case you don't know follow the game adn don't know much about it. I do myself, and read up on it, but i'm just curious to hear from a random person.
Also, i was just having a laugh.
@deadline-zero0: Well, this will probably seem like a very lame answer, but I like space. A lot. Astronomy's one of my interests and passion, and like, ever since I played Morrowind, I think, I have wanted an open world game set in space, where I mostly do nothing but just explore the vastness of the universe, landing on new worlds, just doing my thing, playing it at my own pace. When Bioware first announced Mass Effect, I was hoping it would be something like that, but lol. No Man's Sky seems perfect, it seems up my alley, really, it's everything I have ever wanted from a space exploration game. It's something I can just come home to after a long day at work, and sort of lose myself in the slow rhythm of space exploration.
Have you played Proteus? It's an indie game, it's on PC, PS4, PS3, PS Vita. Procedurally generated island that you are thrown on, that you just spend time... exploring. That's all you do. It's very relaxing, and losing myself in it is great. I loved Proteus, No Man's Sky sounds like it is a million times bigger (literally), and in a setting I have always wanted to boot. I cannot help but be excited for it.

Way more mediocrity outside of Naughty Dog. And their last 4 games have 2 hits (The Last of US and Uncharted 2) to go along with 2 duds (Uncharted 1 and 3).
The rest of their internal teams have what....zero great games to show since God of War 2? Demon's Souls if we're lumping the 2nd party stuff along with it. Some good stuff along the way like Journey, Resistance 3, or Killzone 2's multiplayer sure, but honest to god Great? nah.

When was A Crack in Time, before or after God of War II? I liked that one too. Demon's Souls, like you said. Resistance 3 was dope. Killzone 2, but they've made a billion games since then in that series and all of them have been shockingly awful. I guess Tearaway is great, I wanna see how they do it on PS4. I assume there will be a God of War V, and I'll buy it, because I don't know man, I guess I'll give them a chance. Bloodborne, we've already talked about that. Aren't they working on a TLOU2?
Plus there's all the third party stuff that Sony is securing exclusively for the PS4, that's got me way more pumped- No Man's Sky, Persona 5, Ys, Street Fighter V, and so on.
@charizard1605: Ok. Cool. Was just curious. For me, the issue lies in the random generation of the planets. I fully expect some boring and repetative designs to show up by the 5th-7th world and take me out of the whole experience, which is honestly why i prefer Star Citizen's approach to hand crafted planets more.
But, that was just a personal interest of mine. I'll see how NMS turns out. Thanks for the response.

No worries bro, I'm really intrigued by Star Citizen as well, and if I had a computer that could handle it, I'm sure my hype for it would be way more than it is right now lol.

Crack in time was 09. I would call it good, but great? must play status, no.
That's the big difference here not to make bring back the old label of "killer app", but Sony's teams that aren't Naughty Dog haven't exactly been making it rain. Santa Monica has existed solely to finish up other peoples games. Lousy looking games too in this case.

Yeah, gotta agree with you there. You would have thought after 20 years, they'd have had better in house development lol.

I'm pretty sure that both the PS1 and the PS2 were the second worst consoles form a performance standpoint of their respective times. It was probably the Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast respectively that were the least powerful consoles of those generations.
Anyway, PS4 and PS3 are more alike.
closest to the PS3. I have'nt really turned it on for months outside of downloading the usual ps+ games, then turn it off Again.
My consoles are strictly for exclusives, and currently? there is close to none.
It's most like the PS3 as far as design goes by far. It has a major advantage though in that MS crapped the bed with the Xbone which is something they didn't do with the 360. The Wii U is crap as well and nothing like the Wii. In other words, the PS3 had major competition but the PS4 has little to none.
